Batteries Not Included
This Christmas present gives a whole new meaning to the term “bringing joy to the holiday season”.
Dr. Darian Black is Playtime Industries’ brilliant A.I. engineer and the creator of the Orgasmatron 6000, an “adult entertainment” android of incomparable beauty and skill. Incredibly intelligent and arrogant, Black is long overdue for a lesson in humility.
Kiana is his perfect creation. She is beautiful, insatiable…and malfunctioning.
And then there is 6-E, Dr. Black’s personal computer. “She” is sentient, as intelligent as he is…and very very angry with him.
When Kiana goes in search of the ultimate orgasm the city isn’t safe. Because if she experiences a multiple orgasm she will detonate –- and take a large chunk of the city with her. Only one person can stop her, and Dr. Black’s computer isn’t playing ball. At all.
Christmas is a time for miracles. Just hope that Santa’s on his way.
Author Note: This holiday short story is full of cheeky and sexy sci-fi futuristic adventure suitable for mature audience only.
A Sprites Tale
When an Aussie bushland sprite collides with Santa’s nephew on a sunny, isolated Australian beach, the sand won’t be the only thing that scorches!
Having decided his uncle is due for a break, Santa’s nephew, Nick, takes on the job of delivering presents and heads straight for the sun-drenched beaches of Australia. After a cataclysmic sleigh disaster with a low-flying Qantas airbus, Nick finds himself rounding up reindeer on an isolated coastal stretch. When all seems lost — including Rudolph — Nick stumbles upon Chrissie, a woman just as mysterious as he.
Chrissie is an Australian bushland sprite, sent after Nick by his uncle. Santa has made his own decision — it’s time for his nephew to settle down, and Chrissie’s just the sprite to fill his empty heart.
Christmas is always hot in Australia, but this year, things are really heating up!
Shifting Lust
“Give me an excuse. Just one excuse to blow you to the Heavens.”
– Raiven a’Tor, Last of the Terrans
Working as a body-decoy isn’t exactly the safest job in the six-systems, but Kyra Issarei, Chamelyon Shape-shifter, knows no other life. Until her heart is lost to the famous Raiven a’Tor, last of the Terrans and the most feared bounty hunter the six-systems has ever known.
Two solar years ago, Kyra fled from Raiven to save his life. Now held captive as a sexual pawn in an intergalactic battle for supremacy, Kyra hangs on the edge of madness. Sworn to avenge Raiven’s death, nothing will stop her spilling his murderer’s blood. Not the obsessed Murukhan Warlord, Mu’dek, who keeps her chained in his private chamber for his own gratification. Not even the residue psyches in her head fighting for dominance — psyches that want nothing more than for Kyra to succumb to their burning lust for sex and blood.
Yet everything is not how it seems. Because not even death itself can keep Raiven from his lover’s side. And pity anyone who tries to stop him.
The Sun Sword
Torin Kerridon, the last warrior from an ancient order, is drawn to an abandoned, dying Earth, where he finds a forgotten young woman. A woman forged by the Immortals to wield the ultimate weapon—the Sun Sword. A woman capable of commanding the power of the suns. A woman with no past and no memory, the body of an angel and the spirit of a demon. He will train her. Prepare her.
Hunted all her life, Kala Rei has endured more than one woman should. Sheer grit, and a dangerous skill with a lead pipe, are the key to her survival. But nothing threatens her sense of safety more than dominance-oozing Torin. He wants her, but not for what’s between her legs. For what he believes her to be—some ludicrous savior from some absurd prophecy. No matter…his offer to take her away from Earth is too good to refuse.
But when a savage desire begins to burn between them, both Torin and Kala are in danger—and so are the worlds of man.

I was out and about the other day and couldn’t access my current read (The Perfect Match by Kristan Higgins) so I opened the iBook app on my phone and opened the first book on my digital TBR pile, Simply Irresistible by Jill Shalvis. I have never read anything by Jill Shalvis before, so I had no idea what to expect.
Wow. I LOVE her voice, her style, her humour, her playful fun and the depth of her characters. I’m only a short way in but I think Ms Shalvis can count me as a new fan. Simply Irresistible is the first book in the Lucky Harbor series (you have no idea how hard it is to write Harbor instead of Harbour – that’s how we Aussies write it), so I’m keeping my fingers crossed the rest of the series is as good as the beginning of the first book.
Anyone read Jill Shalvis’ books? Thoughts?

My reading tastes run eclectic. I will read almost any type of fiction (although I’m more partial to horror and romance). Lately I’ve been picking up books purely on a whim. I just finished Ready Player One (fantastic book every 80s geek and nerd should read) based on the cover alone, and before that I read Neil Gaiman’s American Gods because of the TV show, and Jilly Cooper’s Mount! because I’ve been a Jilly Cooper fan since Rivals.
My current read is Kristen Higgin’s The Perfect Match (Book Two in the Blue Heron series and the follow up to The Best Man, which was my introduction to Higgin’s work). I’m really enjoying it. I love how to characters have realistic flaws (the hero, a Brit called Tom, drinks a little too much when nervous, which is not something I’ve found before in a romance-book hero). Plus I’m really enjoying how the narrative explores deeper issues than just boy-meets-girl (in this case Tom’s relationship with his almost-step-son is explored and it makes for emotional reading).
I’m at the halfway point, and unless Higgin’s completely fails to stick the landing, I’m thinking I’m going to love this more than The Best Man (which I give 4/5).
So…what are you currently reading? Any recommendations for me?

Spiderman: Homecoming
Or Finally A Spiderman Movie That Understands Who Spiderman Is
Or Okay, I Freaking Loved Spiderman: Homecoming
In the interest of full disclosure, I am a HUGE Marvel girl. Huge. I should also point out, Spiderman was MY comic and cartoon when I was a kid. I loved it. Still do. The first time I heard about the Toby Maguire Spiderman movie I was ridiculously excited.
And then I saw it.
And I was shattered.
Where was Spidey’s snarky cheeky playfulness? Too much angst. And MJ just wasn’t right.
I gave the next two movies a chance because Spiderman. I came away lacking.
Then the Andrew Garfield version was announced. I was hesitantly excited. I saw the first one on opening weekend, and while I enjoyed it (IMO it’s a vast improvement over the Maguire films) its still was too angsty and broody for Spidey. The next one…well, the less said about that the better.
Which brings me to the NEW Spiderman movie. Or should that be the MARVEL Spiderman movie. When Spidey appeared in the Captain America: Civil War movie I was beside myself. Spidey was funny, and flippant, and excited about being in the action, and very clearly still a teenage kid. FINALLY, this was MY Spiderman, on the screen. Wow.
So I finally saw Spiderman: Homecoming last weekend (thank you Husband for being out of state working on release day), and as you could probably tell by the heading of this post, I freaking loved it. Gave it 10/10. This IS Spiderman. He is a teenager, dealing with teenager stuff. He’s smart (Spidey has always been smart, something less emphasised in the Maguire films and only kinda sort of mentioned in the Garfield films). He is quick witted when he’s Spidey, and a socially awkward teen when not. Thankfully, we don’t have to go through the whole origin story again (we know how Peter got his powers), but we get to see the deep love he has with Aunt May without being hit over the head time and again about Uncle Ben’s death.
Yes, it also have referenced to the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and they are a delicious icing on an amazing cake. And let’s be serious here, RDJ can pop up as Iron Man in any Marvel movie as far as I’m concerned. But even his appearance (as brief as it is) doesn’t detract from the fact this is Spiderman’s film. Sure, some of the CGI is a little…wonky…but only occasionally, and never enough to rip you out of the moment.
Oh oh oh…and Michael Keaton’s villain is very intimidating. Marvel is known for having a villain problem (none ever come off as threatening as they should) but the Vulture (and Keaton’s portray of him) is a legitimate threat to our web-slinging hero.
If you’ve been hesitant to check out this new Spiderman film due to superhero fatigue (or Spidey fatigue), do give it a go. I promise, if you love Spiderman as much as I did as a kid you won’t be disappointed.
**Thank you Hoyts Charlestown for the movie. Oh, and the Flat White coffee was close to perfect***

Transformers: The Last Knight – A Review
What’s wrong with Michael Bay’s latest and (God, please make it be true) last Transformers film? Everything.

This is Optimus Prime. I’m not kidding.
There is nothing right about it. Not even Marky Mark’s flashed upper torso (flashed for reasons I still can’t fathom but I’m sure in Bay’s mind furthered the plot in some significant way). Imagine you are a little kid recounting an exciting dream you had last night. As you are recounting your dream, you notice your parents are giving you attention. You, their child. Not their phones or their computers, but you. Now your little kid’s mind tells you this is awesome: you’re getting attention, but if you stop telling your amazing recount of your dream, your parents’ attention on you will waiver and they will go back to being focused on something else. So what do you do if you’re that little kid? You make sure your recount of your dream goes on for as long as it possibly can. You retell your dream in hyperbolic enthusiasm, with as much excitement and grandiose as possible. And when your actual dream recount comes to an end…well, you just keep going. Because the longer you talk, the longer you have your parents’ attention.
But of course, you’re only a little kid, so you don’t really know all about the nuances of subtle, skilled story-telling, of narrative structure and suspension of belief, so anything and everything that pops into your head while you’re talking, comes out of your mouth, becomes a part of your “dream”, and as you continue to tell your epic story, it drifts further and further away from a cohesive narrative, it slips further and further into verbal diarrhoea until your parents begin to try to bring the whole thing to an end, exasperated and frustrated and wondering what the hell they’d been thinking all those years ago when they decided to become parents…
Michael Bay is that little kid, and Transformers: The Last Knight is the retelling of his “dream” and we, the viewing audience are his parents (just in case you didn’t get where I was going with the analogy). For those who grew up in the 80s, for those who loved the original cartoon show with noble, courageous and powerful Optimus Prime leading the plucky and cheeky Autobots as they battle the insidiously scratchy-voiced Megatron and his snivelling Decepticons, it’s fair to say Bay has let us down. I let the first Transformers film pass (despite flames inexplicably appearing on Prime, and don’t get me starting on the fact he went from a Kenworth K100 to a Peterbilt 379) because it was fun and silly and had big robots fighting big robots and I was heavily invested due to a serious 80s nostalgia. By the fourth film, Bay has taken that nostalgia and CGI-smashed it to death.
So what exactly ticked me off so much about Transformers; The Last Knight?
Everything. But let’s narrow it down to a few things, okay?
1/ The story was a mess. There was no rhyme or reason for half of what happened in it, no cohesion in the narrative, half the story threads beared no relevance to anything remotely connected to Transformers, the other half either don’t get tied-up or if they did it’s in the most laughable, lip-service way possible.
2/ The action was so chaotic it was damn near impossible to follow. And because of the overly complicated Transformer designs Bay has insisted on going with from the get-go, it just becomes a mess of CGI on the screen…which could be forgiven if the story was okay. (See Point 1)
3/ Every moment is THE moment. Every close-up is THE close-up. Every minute is THE MOST IMPORTANT, VISUALLY AMAZING, DRAMATIC MINUTE of the film. So that means, none of them are.
4/ I still don’t understand why there was a little dog barking at a big dog in a slow-motion bubble. Nope. Still don’t.
5/ Why the hell was Anthony Hopkins in this? No, Sir Anthony, you don’t have to do this. We will never forget you or the amazing movies you have made. Never. Don’t do things like this again. Please.
6/ Everything else. Oh man…I need to stop because I’m getting angry. Please, don’t go see this movie. Don’t give Bay any more money. Don’t encourage him any more. Please?

Biceps. Mmmmmm….
I give this movie ½ out of 10 (the half is for Marky Mark’s bare upper torso, even though there was no definable reason for seeing it. It’s a nice torso)
**I saw this movie at Charlestown Hoyts. The hot chocolate I bought there and the reclining seats was the best thing about my Transformers: The Last Knight experience**

“Laugh out loud funny, charming, and romantic, The Irredeemable Billionaire is a must read romance! There’s so much to love about this one…the characters, the romance, and the HEA ending. My only complaint? I wish it would’ve went on forever! ” – FIVE STARS, Lauren, Goodreads
