Sky high

Okay, here's something amazing to share. I recently heard from a reader who decided there was only one way to celebrate her 30th birthday: sky-diving. And if you're going sky-diving, it turns out there's only one way to dress:

IN VAMPIRE ACADEMY CLOTHING!

Yup, that's the molnija mark you see from one of Arcane Vault's shirts. How cool is that? Thanks for sharing, Lisa. And happy birthday. :)

In other news, I'll have some cool info soon for people in Toronto (hopefully early next week), so stay t...

Touring, statues, etc.

I don't know what's sadder: the fact that another week has passed since I blogged or that my first impulse to blog came when I saw a mother and children talk to the deer statue yesterday. If I keep this up, my bio is going to have to be changed to, "Author Richelle Mead enjoys reading, buying dresses, and blogging about lawn statuary."

I discovered a treasure trove of international covers on my laptop yesterday, so I'll at least put some of those up the next time I'm using it. Today, I'm at m...

Deerly beloved

Yesterday, my husband saw a small girl riding her bike past our house. She stopped and waved at our neighbor's deer. To the best of our knowledge, it didn't wave back. Since I didn't see her, I'm also not sure if she was one of the girls who was petting the deer a couple weeks ago. For all I know, the deer may have some kind of device inside it that lures in all children within a certain radius and slowly enslaves them into a pint-sized army of destruction.

In only slightly less creepy news, F...

Iron Crowned cover

The dark color palette and foil lettering didn't scan in so well, but you'll have to take my word for it that the cover of Eugenie's next adventure looks awesome. Description and release date can be found at your favorite website.

The representation of the crown is spot-on, but each time I glance at this cover, my brain thinks she's holding a tambourine. Love it.

Also: Eugenie is going to cut someone.

Oh deer

I know it's been a while since my last post, but hopefully, this entry will make up for it because it's about MY NEIGHBORS. Well, kind of.

Before I get to that, let me cover a few other important things. First, today's the release day of my friend Jeanne Stein's book Chosen. It's the newest book in her Anna Strong series, and if you're looking for some new vampire material, it's not to be missed.

Also not to be missed is this video from San Diego ComicCon that Pengin made of me and a number of ...

Life on the road

On Thursday, I embarked on my third trip in a month, flying to Chicago to attend a trade show put on by a company called Levy. I've recently learned that a lot of big superstores (like Walmart, Target, and my beloved midwest Meijer) don't actually choose what books they'll stock. They hire outside companies who work with publishers to pick what's hot and likely to sell. That's what goes on the shelves. Levy is one such company, and it was really great to meet people who are so in to books and...

Short story excerpt!

I have something good for you today. Before I give you the scoop, I want to answer something I know will come up (because it already has). People are wanting to know when an excerpt from Last Sacrifice will be available. Like my FAQ says, excerpts for new books never go up any sooner than one month before release. So, the soonest you might see the first chapter would be around November 7--and that's if the publisher allows it, since they have the final say. Seeing as I'm still polishing that ...

Mile high times

Yikes. A week without blogging? Bad Richelle. Part of this is because Last Sacrifice copy edits (phase 5 of 6 in the writing/publishing process) landed on my plate. Copy edits generally don't involve major content changes, but it is my last chance to do any big tweaking, so I'm trying to go over the manuscript very carefully. After this comes proofs, in which really only super glaring errors can be changed (like if Rose suddenly starts getting called Violet or something).

I also flew to Denver...

The Rose City rises for the occasion

Yesterday I roadtripped with a friend down to Portland, Oregon for a signing with my pals at Powells Books in Beaverton. It turned out to be an amazing event, but the day didn't start out so great. You see, before I left Seattle, I had a slight accident. While unloading dishes, I dropped and broke a coffee mug, injuring my hand in the process.

The mug didn't break on my hand. Rather, the mug broke its fall on my hand and then physically shattered after I yelped in pain and let the mug hit the ...

Signing, voting, and driving

Okay, before I forget, let me remind everyone that I'll be signing at the Beaverton Powells in Portland, OR on Monday (August 9) at 7pm. This is technically to celebrate the Succubus Blues re-release, but like always, you can have any Richelle Mead book signed. You can bring ones you already own, but if you plan on buying something new, try to hold off until you're at the store since that's a nice thing to do for them. My website lists the address and book limits, though if the crowd isn't bi...
