Devotional: Ruth 2 – Loving Kindness By Lara Lee

1) Now Naomi had a relative on her husband’s side, a man of standing from the clan of Elimelek, whose name was Boaz. This relative is an essential person for the reader to keep in mind. Naomi is not entirely alone in this community. She does have family, at least on her husband’s side. “A […]

Devotional: Ruth 1- Choices by Lara Lee

The book of Ruth is the only book in the Bible named after a non-Israelite. She was a foreigner and not even the only main character. Her actions are so amazing, though, that she has rightfully been given the place of honor.

Devotional: Proverbs 31:10-31 A Woman’s Superpower by Lara Lee

What I have been pondering is how so many fanasy novels have women dress like men to accomplish heroic deeds. Why is this? Do women have no God-given abilities?

WELCOME TO HOLLAND by Emily Perl Kingsley

I came across this poem/essay a couple of years ago and loved it. For me, this is the way I see disability, but not everyone agrees. For them, this poem is a bit rosy. Personally, I believe everything has a purpose and that God doesn't choose to torture us.

Writer’s Update: New Adventures!

It has been 6 months since I have done a writer’s update. Part of the reason for this is that the world has flipped multiple times since January and my original goals have drastically changed. I am NOT on track to release a book this year. I was hoping I would be able to clean […]

A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle

I knew nothing about this book before I read it except that it was a highly praised young adult fantasy book that was being made into a movie by Disney. I thought I had heard that the author was a Christian, but I wasn’t certain. When I opened the pages, I had nothing but those […]

The Princess Bride by William Goldman

The Princess Bride is perhaps the only book in which I think the movie was better. That being said, the book was still pretty good, but the movie is one of my all-time favorites. Both the book and the movie have heavily influenced my humorous fantasy fiction writing. In the movie, a grandfather reads The […]

Book Review: Heidi by Johanna Spyri

In my childhood, I adored a cartoon version of Heidi that had singing characters and fairytale mountain creatures. I loved her grumpy Grandfather, who softens up because of her. I loved how Peter, the goat herder, and his animals came to recuse her from the city. This is NOT like the book at all! At […]
