Movie Review – Mongolian Death Worm
Title: Mongolian Death Worm
Director:
Genre: Horror/Creature Feature
Rating: 2 bats
This gets two bats purely because I like the death by worm scenario and there’s so few of them out there. That said, I have to wonder if some of the people involved in Tremors were involved in Mongolian Death Worm because it was a hair short of being a rip-off of the Tremors franchise.
That said, they did do a good job with the visuals on the worms – but they were still pretty darn close to Tremors style.
Couldn’t find a character that I related to and most of them were flat. Books & movies can get away with many plot flaws with me if their characters are engaging – this cast just didn’t do it.
If you enjoy deadly worm movies this might be worth watching if for nothing else than to see people devoured by worms. If squirming death isn’t your bag – I’d take a pass on this one.

Book Review – Unlimited by Jillian Michaels
Author: Jillian Michaels
Genre: Non-Fiction
Publisher: Three Rivers Press
Series: No
Rating: 5 bats
Heat Level: n/a
Wow. This should be mandatory reading material! I read this book last year and am refreshing myself with it this year. It is amazingly inspiring without the pander or excuses a lot of self-help gurus tend to spiel. I love her frank ‘this is how it is’ type of style.
She’ll lift you up and make you face your inner demons – you know, like those nasty buggers called doubt, procrastination and perhaps worse – the whine demon!
She places you fully where you ought to be – in charge of your own life – and gives you the knowledge, tools and steps to achieve anything you want. Sometimes this process hurts as we’ve got to take such a close look at ourselves and our flaws, but it’s well worth every bit of pain.
If you find you’re in a rut, slump or otherwise unmotivated she’ll help you drag yourself out of it. If your hunting dream, she gives you the wisdom to bag it.
Check it out!

Frank Hall, our editor at Hydra Publications, will be attending as well.
So if you’re free the weekend of September 28-30th this year and want to join in on all the fun – pop on by!

Welcome and Happy Friday the 13th!
Welcome!
To our new lair on the web! We’ve been fiddling with this for a while now, as you can see from the post dates, with the help of the web designer at Market Intelli-Sense – thanks John for all your help! Thanks also to my friend Tricia Ballad at Take a Break Vacations who patiently explained some of the aspects of starting this blog. And many thanks to my torture subjects…er…ahem…friends, yes, Mark, Jas and Lawren who tolerate being the first test subjects in many of our projects.
What better day to launch a Gothic site that lives outside the box than Friday the 13th?
Here is where we can break through the boundaries and create without restraint. We can talk about writing, gardening, creating in all aspects. We’d love for any, and all of you express your thoughts and ideas. Don’t worry, I’ve warded this site very carefully with the highest magic known to my kind against the nasty PC virus so – you’re safe!
We’ll be discussing and showing the step-by-step progress of our main Focus Project, the Gothic Cemetery and our side focus project – the Haunted Forest (okay, it’s an orchard technically). The Plant Profiles is for accolades and growing conditions for each plant we use – and some we don’t use but are simply too interesting to leave out.
We’ll have recipes, reviews, guests of all sorts so please stay tuned, and most of all enjoy!

Introducing Our Main Focus Project – The Gothic Cemetery!
Gothic Cemetery !
Of doom! Because everything goes better with doom
Here are some of the ‘before’ pictures – I have different views that I’ll post later – that capture the majority of where the cemetery will be. It faces our bedroom windows so every morning…Dawn of the Dead anyone?
Ahem. Anyways, bad jokes aside, there’ll be graves, headstones and a cozy patio nook to sip coffee or wine. The idea is ancient – a wild look, untamed! But most of all, my goal is for it to be useful. So, I’ve chosen a variety of herbs and berries that are either medicinal or edible in nature, not to mention most of them look pretty darn cool.
The plants have been chosen, ordered and the plan set! Join us on this Gothic adventure and please do feel free to toss in ideas, thoughts and suggestions!
Haunted Orchard!
Haunted Beginnings
Greetings and welcome to what will become the haunted orchard! Muahahaha!
To give a little background this…sand pit you see was once a cool wildling area and upon its edges sat my 5 year old red currant bushes and 5 year old grape vines. That was until nigh on two years ago when some contractor decided to destroy it all. Long story short, we contacted him and several other excavators for an estimate to make a shooting range. Shortly after telling the excavators we’d make a decision and call them when we were ready – we went on vacation.
When we returned, we found that one of them came to our property while we were gone and scraped everything – yes everything, top soil, bushes, assorted plants – off the entire north portion of our property. Not only that, he also failed to create the proper range because, uhm, we hadn’t been there to instruct because we hadn’t hired him. GRRRR.
To add insult to injury, he destroyed my grape vines and currant bushes and buried a mangled mash of wire fence.
After two years of looking at this mess, Lain and I decided to fix it and create – dun dun dun – a haunted orchard!
Join us as we plan, plot and create! We’d love to hear your ideas and what you think would be cool!
