Tuesday’s Twitterature

Amazon freak. Checking deals daily. New box-possibilities of fulfillment. Joy abounds! Wrong size, wrong color, just WRONG. Drat. Back u go.

Who doesn’t love the potential of a big box of something from Amazon? Prime is my frienemy. I love you so!

But my wallet doesn’t.

And I get frowns when there are too many days in a row with that tell-tale box on the steps.

But still…I return to my old friend again and again.

And then I RETURN to my friend occasionally. Amazon doesn’t like me so much when I have to do that. But I always get the same good-natured pick up and refund. Ahhhhh. And I never have to leave my couch.

New Twitterature

So, I decided to try my hand at making flash Twitter fiction again. Here’s what I came up with:

Pounding on the door. My eyes shift to gun on the table. Too late. BANG! Door collapses. I leap. So close. Death imminent. Gun blasts. Dark.

I made a DAY ZERO based one too:

Death day survived. Life change. Invisible. Desperate. Lost. New purpose? Who am I when all is gone? Will I rise or fall? Balanced on edge.

I think I’m going to try to make a new one of those each day this week as an effort to stir my imagination. What do you all think??

What I’m buying…CitiArts.

I like to share things I find with you all and today that’s CitiArts!

Chris Kehn is the artist behind all the wonderful designs and (full disclosure) he’s a good friend of mine. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t super talented!

Just look at these wonderful abstracts! I bought a set of three of them from him myself.

That’s just a little sample! I’m sure he’d create something custom if you have colors you want your artwork to be!

You can find him and buy some of these wonderful prints here:

https://www.etsy.com/shop/CitiArts

and follow him on Instagram:

Tell him BJ sent ya!

Meeting Great People

My husband and I went to dinner together in a nearby town tonight and struck up a wonderful conversation with our waiter, Clay.

Clay, like all people, had a story to tell. His life had gone through a major renovation of sorts. Not all of it was good. Not all of it was bad. It was a journey of identity.

His honesty was astounding and really moved me. Rarely do I meet up with someone so deeply connected to who he really is. I have a sneaking suspicion that he’s always had an understanding. He seems the type. But I believe the difficult period of fire that he’s just passed through gave him a clarity that few can claim.

I think it’s nearly impossible for someone to get to that level of seeing themselves, flaws and all, and having acceptance without some sort of ordeal.

I try to make my characters live such interesting and beautiful lives as Clay has. There is beauty not only in victory but also failure and the growth that comes from it.

I’m thankful for the brief time we got to chat for those reminders.

Moral? Don’t forget to make time for the lives around you. One chance conversation with a stranger can be more than you expected and you’ll be better for it.

Dealing With The Dragons

I am working on finishing SLEEP TIGHT this month and am dealing with the usual spots where things are hard to write. I’m using www.campnanowrimo.org this month to push me through to the finish line.

It’s made me think about what writers do when they are at a point where they feel as if they are slogging through quicksand.

(Believe me, we ALL hit that point in every book.)

It’s the point where you start to flounder, your confidence lags, and you start to believe you’re writing a book that no one will ever want to read.

So, here’s what I do:

I try to stay in my story. I might not be feeling it so I’ll seek out inspiration that helps me get my groove back.

I’ll go on Pinterest and create boards to “cast” my movie version, to “location scout” where I see my scenes, or to create the “soundtrack” for the novel.

Between looking at images and listening to songs and sounds that feel like my story, I find I refill my tank and start to get my words flowing again.

Even if I’m kind of stuck in a certain spot, I’ll rush through my rough patch just to get some words on the page and to keep the spigot open. I know where I want to go and can always fix those ugly areas when I start the editing process.

What do YOU do when it starts to get hard to write? Let me know in the comments! I’d love to hear from you!
