Fun Photo Friday — Christmas on the Pecos Favorites

Christmas on the Pecos

It’s Fun Photo Friday time, and this will wrap up this year’s Christmas lighting special. Before you get to the photo gallery, however, here are some particular favorites of mine. The next photograph is a rather abstract reflected light image from our Pecos River voyage:

I particularly enjoy the symmetry of this next reflection shot:

And this next shot would make a great Christmas card, I would think:

End of the Ride — Returning to the Pecos River Village

I’ve given tips before on how to photograph Christmas lights. For a refresher, here are a few articles:

Christmas Tree Mirror

The cost for the Christmas on the Pecos river cruise varies by age and day of the week. Children 12 and under ride for $10 Sunday through Thursday, $15 on Friday and Saturday. For 13 and up the cost is $15 in the cheap nights and $20 during the prime Friday and Saturday evenings.

Is it worth it for 40 minutes? I think so. In fact, I wouldn’t mind doing this again someday. I know kids will certainly enjoy it.

Christmas on the Pecos

The boat tour for Christmas on the Pecos runs about 45 minutes.

Three boats were available this year, and the seating capacities were 15, 40, and 45. We were on the largest, Bella Sera.

The light show starts out a bit sparse, but about halfway along the length of the cruise things start picking up nicely. The following two shots were taken shortly after leaving the Pecos River Village:

25th Anniversary of Christmas on the Pecos

Time for what has become sort of an annual tradition here at the blog — Christmas light photography — but this time with a travel twist. This week I’m going to not only give you five articles, but I’m going to take you to Carlsbad, New Mexico, for a Christmas light boat ride along the Pecos River.

Lunch at Fort George Brewery + Public House

You’ll recall from Monday that after our hike into town both Ursula and I were feeling a bit peckish. So, after passing the remnants of Fort Astoria (also known as Fort George) . . .

Fort George/Fort Astoria

We stopped at the Fort George Brewery + Public House. This was at the recommendation of a brewer at their adjoining brewery, and I even tried his recommended brew with lunch.

Moving from Astoria Riverwalk to Downtown

Cascading Flowers

I’d Hate to have to Trim this Bush

Still on the Astoria Riverwalk, peering over the trees once you near the Columbia River Maritime Museum, you’ll see the 90-year-old Astoria Column. This 125-foot/38-meter column sits atop a 600-foot/180-meter hill southeast of town. The column has a mural that spirals upwards from the base. This mural, if laid straight, would measure over 500 feet/150 meters.

The Captain George Flavel House Museum is worth the price of admission and a leisurely walk — both around and through. Tickets are purchased in the nearby carriage house. Here is an view of the back of the Flavel House:

The grounds are also quite photo-worthy, as you can see here:
