10 Weeks Later

Kathleen here.

I thought I would do an update on Peter and the rest of us on Peter’s site since I haven’t done one of these in a while and because it is now 10 weeks later.

He’s home and we are so happy to have him back. He is enjoying being back home.

He was able to navigate the house with minimal help when he got home and now he is pretty much able to get around on his own. This is a big considering we were talking building wheelchair ramps and the like so he could get into the house when we were first talking about getting him home.

The double vision is gone which he is very grateful for. He also got a new set of glasses, which he said he needed to get before we even left for our vacation, that have helped a lot with eye strains and the like.

His right leg is getting stronger each day. It is a slow process but he is making steady progress. He has to think his way through each step although the process is getting easier. We really don’t think about walking, we just do it. At this point for Peter, it is a matter of thinking about the knee going up and walking heel to toe and not to throw his hip out. Walking is a lot about thinking right now for him.

The right arm is improving. He has managed to get his right arm over his head. He is working the fingers with a number of exercises to try to regain control over them. The elbow is working better every day.

Today he went into the city on the LIRR for a business meeting that he needed to attend, which shows how far he has come in 10 weeks.

He has returned to his Tai Chi classes and he is bowling again.

Caroline is so happy to have her daddy home. She spends most evenings curled up next to him.

He has been working hard at his out patient therapy. He goes twice a week and then does exercises on the days that he is not in therapy. It is not easy and we have our good days and our bad days but we have days which is a blessing indeed.

I am doing OK. I am doing PT for my neck and doing a lot of thinking about what I need to do for my arthritis. I have been driving a lot to get people where they need to be on time.

We wanted to say thank you to everyone who had helped us. I don’t think I would be as calm as I am considering what the mail brings every day. We feel supported and we feel loved and that helps us so much.

So I am opening this up to Ask Kath or Caroline. Peter might participate if he is feeling up for it. Have at it. If I say we can’t answer a question, please don’t take it personally. There are certain subjects I would rather not talk about and I ask that you respect that.

Oscar 2013 Blog

Yes, we have decided to live blog the Oscars.

Tune in in 20 minutes for an evening of snarky comments.

Kath is typing so all typos are her doing.

Kath: Christine Chenoweth is sooooo cute doing the red carpet.

8:26 4 minutes of commercials, and I bet none will be as good as the Super Bowl ones…oh well, now we wait.

8:28 OK the Bond commercial was pretty good.

8:30 OK here we go

8:31 TLJ laughed You lose.

8:33 Cell phone joke first one that doesn’t work

8:35 Oh My G-d I see him too!

8:38 Oh My G-d this the brilliant

8:41 You know Flight would have been 10 times better with sock puppets.

8:42 Let’s hope that Bruce Willis doesn’t come back from the future to stop JGL from doing this

8:46 OK this has been going on for 15 minutes. Enough all ready.

8:47 Please tell me they cleared that with Disney.

8:48 My guess Tommy Lee Jones for best supporting actor

8:50 Oh My God OK so much for my guesses tonight. Must be the stroke.

8:52 Somewhere Spike Jones is throwing a drink at the TV

8:56 Wow this is amazingly not funny.

8:57 Not getting any funnier

8:57 We saw all these and want Adam and the Dog to win

8:58 At least Caroline really likes it so it’s OK.(Paperman)

8:59 Come on Brave

8:59 Finally got one right. I was getting worried

9:04 I so want to see the Beast of the Southern Wild, entirely because of this kid.

9:05 Or as we call them one half of a San Diego Panel.

9:07 Cinematography my guess life of Pi

9:07 Bingo

9:08 No body cares get off the stage.

9:09 Well the avengers should win. Hobbit will

9:10 Or the Life of Pi what the hell do I know?

9:11 Yeah well Life of Pi didn’t have the Hulk punch out Loki we know who the real winner is.

9:12 they played them off with the music from Jaws? When did this turn into Shark week?

9:17 Costume Snow White

9:18 Oh well didn’t see either

(:18 this woman looks like she would work on Anna Krininanna

9:18 I think Hobbit

9:20 Of course Le Miz

9:21 Well she is dressed like a Bond Girl

9:23 Let’s spend the next 5 minutes sayng who our favorite bond is

9:25 It is Shirley Bassey singing Goldfinger, what more can I say?

9:27 She is 76 and she still got it

9:29 It has been an hour on ABC and no ads for the next OZ film. Someone screwed up

9:31 Actually there have been no ads for any movies. Interesting omission.

9:32 They were showing the shorts at SunRay Cinema

9:33 Have no opinion on this one.

9:35 Again no opinion

9:38 Well his films have become boring and formulaic but you can’t go for more authoritative sounding than Liam Neeson.

9:42 what really impresses me is that Seth McFarlane hasn’t done any funny voices

9:44 Searching for Sugarman! I would be astounded that it won if I had heard of any of these movies.

9:46 The Cast of Promethesus? I am so there. I still don’t know what was going on.

9:47 Seriously why are no movies advertising? Isn’t this your target audience? It’s like beer giving a pass on the Superbowl.

9:50 this is going to be Amore

9:50 There ya go

9:54 I still think Travolta is over rated as a musical performer.

9:55 Catherine Zeta Jones has gotten better. Starring in a Broadway musical did her some good.

9:58 By this point she has lost enough weight to make a whole other singer

10:00 I guess we shall hear the people sing

10:01 they are going for the original song?

10:02 Medley time

10:02 Holy Crap Eponine cleans up good

10:04 Wow!Now I want to go see Les Miz again…No I don’t just kidding.

10:05 There we go.

10:06 Finally an OZ commercial it only took an hour and a half.

10:09 Here we go with the awards that aren’t important enough for the actually show

10:11 Sound Mixing Les Miz

10:12 got it but it should have gone to Skyfall

10:14 Life of Pi

10:15 A tie? Zero Dark 30 and Skyfall

10:16 so Life of Pi lost twice

10:17 What is it with sound guys and long hair?

10:18 That was beautiful.

10:20 And now the names of all the people who are going to lose to Anne Hathaway

10:22 Obviously

10:25 they played off Anne Hathaway with the Godfather. That was an odd choice.

10:28 I have to say, aside from a few joke misfires, Seth McFarlan has been doing a good job. He has been putting the nay sayers to shame…as if they had any.

10:29 I hate to say it, but that sounds interesting.

10:32 Life of Pi?

10:33 Argo Won! OK.One of two movies I actually saw.

10:36 Apparently Adele can be stopped by bad sound balancing.

10:39 Well that was certainly impressive. Aside from Les Miz is there anything else up and why did they bother?

10:46 I don’t think a film should be up for both foreign and best picture. I mean the whole idea is so we don’t have to compete with them.

10:48 Les Miz is my guess

10:48 Kath was right she said Lincoln

10:53 yes let us support these nominees that we had a separate ceremony for

10;54 Oh wow the in memorium tribute. I can’t wait to see who they left out this year.

11:01 I’ll be damned. Barbara herself.

11:03 Damn she can still do a song

11:09 Which score of the film I can’t remember will win. I dunno sky fall.

11:10 Life of Pi, I’ll be damned. Why is it when I am wrong it is always life of Pi?

11:11 they better move this along I am getting tired

11:16 Skyfall. There ya go. They deserved it.

Clearing caches, don’t mind us…

Just doing routine maintenance, nothing to see here, move along, these aren’t the droids you’re looking for, nothing remains but our friendship, Senator.

Farpoint

So we decided that this weekend we would head down to the Farpoint convention. It had been off the charts for quite some time since originally I was going to be getting out on the 15th, and it would’ve been impossible to coordinate. But when they moved my release date forward to the eighth, suddenly it became a possibility again. However, the convention committee kept the possibility of my appearance as a secret, because I did not want to disappoint people if I didn’t feel up to coming at the last moment. But come Friday, I felt up to going and Kathleen was willing to handle the driving requirements of getting down there.

I’m so glad we did. We arrived during opening ceremonies on Friday night, and when they announced my presence and brought me on stage, the response was a several minute standing ovation. I was, frankly, astounded at the response. I mean, I figured it was just me, you know? I hardly thought people’s response would be so vociferous. But it was, and I was deeply moved. People came out of their way the entire convention to greet me and thanked me for showing up. Many even said the convention would not have been the same if I wasn’t there. I’m really not sure how to react to such aggressive appreciation. All I know is that it was very sweet and very much appreciated.

Peter David Benefit Art Auction is LIVE

Remember how we told you a while back one of the ways to help Peter was an art auction that JK Woodward was organizing?

Well it is now live for bidding and all the pieces are breathtaking. There are some iconic pieces and some that you are going to have to see to believe.

You can find the auction on JK’s site here.

There are hot links to bid on these lovely pieces at his site.

And even if you can’t afford the art, please help us spread the word far and wide on all our social media platforms so as many people as possible get a chance to participate in this chance to help Peter.

Every tweet, share, or whatever the kids are doing now does help to get the word out.

Thank you all for all your support. It means a lot to both Peter, the girls, and me.

Kath

And if I can figure out how to get some of the art photos here, I will be adding them.

We made it home

God knows it wasn’t easy. We had to deal with a plethora of canceled flights due to the storm. Fortunately enough we had the luck and resources to make it home yesterday afternoon a mere one hour behind our scheduled flight.

It is truly remarkable to be back home again. I will never forget the people like Ali and Sarah who helped rebuild my body in Florida so that I can at least walk somewhat. Now it’s up to me to continue that work over the next months in order to fully recapture what my body could do before.

Kathleen is here

She got here just before noon, exactly as planned. The next day or so she will be working with my various caseworkers to learn all the things she’s going to have to know to take care of me at home. She have to get up at 430 in the morning to catch an airplane and is exhausted, and so is napping on my bed right now. It’s great to have her here.

How you can Help Peter: Ariel’s Auction request and JK Woodward’s Art Auction

We have two fundraisers that are going at this point.

One is being spearheaded by Ariel.

From the Desk of Ariel L. David

First of all I just wanted to thank everyone for their support. You do not know what a big impact it has made both emotionally and physically. It is always wonderful to hear that someone has bought a book or left a nice message. It brings smiles and hope to my family. Second, as many of you know I’m planning to do an auction to try to raise money for the medical bills. I wanted to ask for donations of items and such for us to auction. If you have anything please email me at help4PAD@gmail.com. We are planning an auction at the convention Farpoint Valentine’s weekend. Also once I have enough items I will be working with Glenn Hauman to set up an online auction as well.

The other is being spearheaded by JK Woodward who has been the Fallen Angel artist since it moved from DC to IDW

Here is the information that JK sent me.

Here’s all the info so far:

http://jkwoodwardart.blogspot.com/201...

http://jkwoodwardart.blogspot.com/201...

And I’ll be announcing the auction which goes live on 2/13/13 on my blog
http://www.jkwoodwardart.blogspot.com... also be announcing any further developmeants and new artist there as well.

(Kath back)

So there you have it. Two new ways to help Peter.

Again the wider that we can put this out on the net, the better chances we have for success.

I can say that the scary bills from last month are showing up in the mail box and they are very scary. Again I would to thank Marvel Entertainment for all their support and the insurance that they provide us. If I needed proof that the healthcare system in America is not in great shape, I got it in spades in my mailbox this week.
