Making A Scene In A Store Happens With Teens, Too
Last Saturday, I got the bright idea to take my two teens and tween to Target; my oldest ask for Cliff bars, my daughter has been saying she’s like a new pair of leggings, and my youngest has been saving for a watch and finally had enough money to buy one.
Not only did I have to get ingredients to make an appetizer for a party we were attending that evening, who am I to turn down a trip to Target with the people I love most in all the world?
This will be fun, I thought as we piled in the car...

The 7 Mom Habits You Simply Cannot Break
When my 15 year old son was heading out to the movies with his friends, I peppered him with questions:
“Do you have enough money?”
“Do you know where to meet me afterward?”
“You know not to talk to strangers, right? If you have a problem, look for a mom. Moms always help.”
“Did you pee? Maybe you should pee before you go?”
He looked at me and rolled his eyes, his patience for my mom questions wearing thin.
“Mah, I’m not a toddler anymore, remember?”
Oh. Right. Sigh.

Days are slipping away. We feel them through our fingertips like the sand our kids once played in. No matter how tight I clench my fist, the sand keeps falling. Instead of holding so tight, maybe we need to relax. Open our hands. Let the sand rest there a moment before we reach down and grab another handful.
Here are 10 ways to help you enjoy the moments this summer.

When your teen enters high school, it can bring on many new feelings: the last chapter of him being home, stress of social expectation, hours of homework, and college preparation. Where do you start on how to navigate course selection, time management, peer pressure, driving, a...
Don’t Waste Your Money On These 17 Frivolous Dorm Room Purchases
About a month before my daughter left for college we spent a fun day shopping together for items for her dorm room. And by fun I mean expensive. The amount of dorm purchases she needed – or thought she needed – was staggering.
When it came time to pack it all up and stuff it all into our SUV for the 300-mile trek to campus, I had regret. When our loaded SUV resembled the Joad family truck from The Grapes of Wrath, I questioned our decisions. And when we carted about a fourth of it back home a...

25 Songs For Your Graduation Playlist. Yes, There Will Be Tears
It’s graduation season and you know what that means: it’s time to celebrate. Teens are proud of their accomplishments and their parents are a mixed ball of emotions. Emotions range from being really freaking excited to kick them out of nest to feeling like an emotional mess because your baby is moving on and creating a new chapter in their lives.
But there’s one thing we can all agree on: graduation calls for a party, no matter how big. And when there’s a party, you need music.

What If We All Made An Effort To Talk About The Dark Side of Parenting Teens?
Raise your hand high if you’re perfect and your family is perfect, if your life is perfect…Right, so no hands were raised because we all know that nobody is perfect. Sure, we all present our best selves to the world – we take the happy, perfect family photo (and are thrilled inside when people comment that we are “beautiful”, etc) and we post photos of our wonderful lives.
We’re not being intentionally fake – it would be pretty odd to see a “real” family photo (I’m not talking about the ones...
