"WHO'S YOUR HERO?" GIVEAWAY HOP - Dani Harper's Page
Welcome to the Hop, and many thanks to
Herding Cats and Burning Soup
for hosting it.As a fantasy and romance author, I fall a little in love with each one of my heroes. It’s not a conscious or deliberate thing – it just happens, at least if I've done my job right, LOL.
I feel like I know them, and I've definitely become close to them. I root for them, boo when bad things happen to them, and cheer loudly when they win.
And after the book is finished, it takes me a long time to get into a new project with new characters. Yup, it's true – I suffer from PHL – Post-Hero-Letdown.
One of My Favorite Heroes
Oh how I missed shapeshifter Connor Macleod after I finished writing Changeling Moon ! After all, I'd gotten to know how he thought, how he felt, how he moved and what he would likely do in any given situation. It’s no wonder that he naturally reappeared in Changeling Dream when his brother, James, needed a hand. And both brothers made their presence known in the third book, Changeling Dawn .
Yet both were eclipsed by the unexpected hero of the third story in the series. It began like this, with the youngest sister of Connor and James.......
NEVER JUDGE A MAN BY HIS SPECIES...
Kenzie Macleod belongs to a long-lived family of Changelings who can turn into wolves at will. They were forced to leave Scotland when wolves were being exterminated there, and those terrible times have left her with a serious distrust of humans....
That’s as far as I got when up popped Josh Talarkoteen. I’m used to it – many of my characters, including the entire Macleod clan, simply walk into my brain anytime they feel like it and start talking to me. But this guy was something new. Oh sure, I got his resume loud and clear – tall, handsome, wildlife expert, Air Force veteran, member of the Tahltan tribe – but it was the fact that he was 100% human that caught me off guard.
“I want in on your new book,” Josh said. “I want a chance with Kenzie.”
I blinked. “I’m not sure that would work. You’re not a werewolf.”
“Your Changeling world has plenty of mixed couples.”
“Yeah, but so far the humans have been women.”
“What difference does that make? They sure didn’t need any super powers in your stories – those women are strong and smart and more than a match for the werewolf men,” he said. “So why not give a regular guy a chance with a Changeling gal?”
“Look, I admit that you’re great-looking, but isn’t it going to be tough to impress a woman who can turn into a wolf? I mean, how do you compete with that?”
“You mean the fact that she’s faster, stronger and can leap tall humans in a single bound?” Josh laughed out loud. “So what? No hero worth his salt would be threatened by that. And besides, I’m looking to win her heart, not throw down with her in a cage fight.”
I did a quick mental inventory of the books on my keeper shelf – and realized that there were a few heroes I loved who were not the magically-endowed half of the couple. I’d just never written about that situation before. So Josh got his chance in CHANGELING DAWN, and I couldn’t be happier. He proved to be one determined man, and everything a hero should be.

Spring Fling Giveaway Hop - Dani Harper's page
http://theherdpresents.blogspot.com/2016/04/spring-fling-giveaway-hop.htmlSpring has sprung and love is in the air! I've been asked to share some of my favorite romantic reads for this blog hop, which sounded like a lot of fun --- until I realized how hard it was to narrow down the list!
There are SO many fabulous books out there. I have a number of favorites on my Keeper Shelf that I reread like comfort food for my brain. Plus I have a towering TBR pile beside my bed that threatens to fall over and crush me in my sleep. Between those extremes, I have many, many stories that I've enjoyed, and whole bunch of "auto-buys" as well.
After much deliberation, I settled on the Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning . This is a sweeping epic of what happens when the walls between the faerie realm and the human world come down. Not a light read --- and the Fae are revealed in their full horror. I'm currently reading Book 6, "Iced", but I just ordered Book 7, "Burned"!
So naturally my personal giveaway had to include one of the Fever series books, as well as one of my own! Check it out on my Rafflecopter below.

I thought about this and decided to list just 3 of the many goofy things that never fail to brighten my day.
1. Gnomes
Yup, I confess to a serious gnome addiction. It all started with one that my mom gave me. And he looked lonely, so pretty soon there were two. And then six. And then fourteen, and then.... You get the picture. I have a thriving gnome colony under the giant rosebush by the house, complete with big fat ceramic mushrooms.
I don't know what it is about gnomes --- whenever I look at them, I can't help smiling. Some of it is probably due to the many faery stories I read and heard as a child. Or maybe they've cast a spell on me.

2. Chickens
Yup, I confess to a serious chicken addiction. When we left Alaska, we moved to eastern Washington where it's much warmer. While our house is small, the yard is enormous. This has led to serious gardening (another one of my passions), and the addition of a chicken coop.
While other gals enjoy shopping for shoes, I get a huge kick out of checking out chicken catalogs online. We add new chicks almost every year and enjoy trying out exotic breeds. All my gals are hand-raised by me, so now that when they're grown up, they follow me when I call. Actually --- most of the time, all I have to do is show up and the whole gang runs to greet me! I've found that chickens have very individual personalities, and they are hilarious to watch. I can see the flock and coop from my kitchen windows, and some days, it's better than TV!

3. Pugs
I've been owned by pugs for years and years. They're a very old breed dating back to China since before 400 BC, and were bred to be companions to the royal family. Pugs were brought to Europe in the 16th century. They were the official dog of the House of Orange (the royal family of the Netherlands) and rapidly spread. Queen Victoria owned over 30 pugs!
I've never had more than two pugs at once, but I feel lucky to have known every one of them. They're a perfect companion for writers -- in fact, my old Scooby was my Official Muse. And Fiona and Queenie even wrote reviews! Right now I have Toby to help me out, and he's very dedicated to his job.
