Review: The Look of Love

The Look of Love

The Look of Love by Crystal Bright

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I downloaded this from Amazon during one of my wandering around the site. I picked it because the blurb sounded interesting and the story is set in my hometown (Virginia Beach!)

This was a quick and pleasurable read. The story is pretty easy to follow and I was able to knock the book out in an afternoon. The characters are well rounded and rooting for them and their romance is easy. This is a perfect beach read and I heartily recommend!!

Half Breed Queen #BookPlaylist

This playlist is a collection of songs I thought represented the character, Marla Owens, and her story. Marla is little more than a child at the beginning of her story trying to find her way while dealing with her losses. By the end of the story she’s grown and matured, and is working toward owning her place on Skatia. Enjoy!

#TeaserTuesday – June 23, 2015

It’s #TeaserTuesday and I’ve got your first sneak peek at WRONG TIME, WRONG PLACE – the first novel in my new Queen City Novels series.

Emmalyn can’t seem to stop loving Lukas, and Lord knows Lukas loves Emmalyn like no other woman he’s ever met. But that doesn’t mean their romance is meant to be…

Enjoy!!

Review: Otherbound

Otherbound

Otherbound by Corinne Duyvis

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book was recommended to me and I selected it for the June book of the month for my book club. Man. Just, man. The intertwined story and romantic twists make this book very difficult to put down. This book covers all the diversity bases with ease and subtlety. Amara’s interactions with Nolan, Maart and then with Cilla are fascinating and enthralling. She is everything to everyone and I wondered more than once how she survived without breaking down more.

This isn’t a book I would have normally have picked, but I’m so glad I did. Highly recommended!!

#TeaserTuesday – June 16, 2015

Hey everyone! I wanted to share this teaser for AMETHYST RISING, Book 2 in The Skatia Narratives.

Marla’s grown up quite a bit after two years on the Skatian throne, but her temper is just as unpredictable – and deadly – as ever. Her world is still in danger, and now there are those threatening the Earth as well. Marla and her allies are in a race against time to find out the truth before Skatia and Earth are destroyed!

Enjoy!!

Blog Post: Week 2 Fitness Check-in

Well ya’ll, I made it through two weeks of CrossFit training, and my over-riding emotion is ouch. Like really OUCH! My arms, my legs, my knees… Just so much ouch.

But just beyond ouch is a slight sense of accomplishment. I haven’t worked out four consecutive days in a long time. I was good with twice a week or three times a week, but a Monday through Thursday – nah.

My normal modus operandi is to get to three weeks then quit. But I don’t want to quit, not really. It would be nice if I could sit on a toilet and not tear up from the pain in my thighs, but that’s a different post. The ladies at the gym are really nice and many of them are in the same shape I’m in — round. It makes it easier when I’m not the only big girl in viewing distance. So I’ll pray for the pain to fade, and for the ability to braid my own hair to return (lifting my arms that high is a dream at the moment) while I prep for next week’s glorious torture sessions.

CHAPTER EXCERPT:

Simon spit his scotch, his fifth of the day, halfway across the living room when Cassandra Hernandez’s face appeared on his television screen. His eyes searched frantically for information about when she was found. It took a moment for his drunken brain to realize it was an AMBER Alert. That meant they thought she was missing.

So they hadn’t found her.

Simon’s phone rang. He answered, “What?”

“Stay calm…” It was Chris.

“I am looking at it right now.”

“No big deal. I’ll come over and we can talk about it. Try to stay on an even keel. You sound like you’ve been drinking.”

“I am and will continue.”

The line went dead.

* * *

Chris arrived half an hour later. Traffic was kind. In that time Simon had consumed another two drinks.

“What do we do?” Simon said to Chris when he let him in.

Chris shrugged, “Nothing. Just a missing girl. Probably met a guy and ran away. There’s nothing to worry about.”

“She was at my show! They will find out that much. If anyone remembers you bringing her backstage, I am dead. Both of us are dead!”

“Please,” Chris scoffed. “People hardly look twice at the skanks I bring to you. You’re overreacting.”

“What if they find her body?” Simon asked.

“Then they perform a murder investigation,” Chris shrugged again. “We wiped her clean and the desert is working on her as we speak. Whatever they find, if anything, will not be the Cassandra Hernandez with the sexy curves and pretty face. It’ll be a rotten sack of half-eaten, dried up meat and bone. We don’t have much to worry about.”
