Shadows of New York review
SHADOWS OF NEW YORK is the sequel to COTERIES OF NEW YORK that came out last year. It is a visual novel set in the World of Darkness by White Wolf Publishing. A visual novel is effectively a "Choose Your Own Adventure" book that is played on a computer and a bit different from a video game since there's often no voice acting or much gameplay. Neither game is anything like VAMPIRE: THE MASQUERADE: BLOODLINES but I enjoyed the former, so I picked up the sequel when it came out last week.

Star Trek: The Way to the Stars by Una McCormack review
STAR TREK: DISCOVERY: THE WAY TO THE STARS is a Young Adult novel based in the Star Trek universe. I have been enjoying the Star Trek: Discovery spin-off novels starting with Michael Burnham and Spock's adventure in Desperate Hour and continuing in works like Drastic Measures. They're a great mix of Star Trek: The Original Series lore with a new perspective on the life of characters from the 23rd century as well as their culture. This book follows Cadet (later Ensign) Tilly of the show and di...

Psycho Killers in Love is out on Kindle, Paperback, and Audible
Hey folks,
I'm pleased to say that PSYCHO KILLERS IN LOVE is available in Kindle, paperback, and audiobook form. It is a prequel to the United States of Monsters series that is set against the backdrop of the 2000 Election. It's an homage to the slasher movies of the Eighties and early Nineties.
Can a slasher and a Final Girl truly love one another? It helps if they have a cult of rich misogynist serial killers to team up against!

Star Trek: Picard: The Last Best Hope by Una McCormack review
Babylon Five was our last best hope fo...oh wait, wrong franchise. It's actually an Abraham Lincoln quote but that's what the title of this book reminded me of. I should note that I am an enormous Star Trek fan. I am enormous Star Trek fan that is also a fan of Star Wars. I am a double-agent of both franchises and cannot be trusted because I have violated the sacred taboo of loving both. However, I will say how much I love the fact that both franchises are still going strong. While not witho...

Star Wars: Battlefront: Twilight Company by Alexander Freed review
BATTLE FRONT: TWILIGHT COMPANY by Alexander Freed is a Star Wars novel following the adventures of a team of Rebel Mobile Infantry soldiers from after the Battle of Yavin to after the Battle of Hoth. It is a darker and edgier sort of book than the usual Star Wars fair, though still fundamentally idealistic at its core. Basically, it's a book dedicated to all those rebels gunned down on the Tantive IV and who were getting blasted in Hoth's trenches by AT-ATs. In the steak dinner of the...

Star Wars: Jedi: Fallen Order
STAR WAS: JEDI: FALLEN ORDER is a game that I have been hesitant to play because of how burned I felt on BATTLEFRONT II. I enjoyed the single player campaign of that guy but felt cheated for the short duration of it as well as the attempt to nickle and dime all of its players. Still, I'd heard good things about this game so I finally picked it up and when I hit a Star Wars mood, decided to play through it. I'm very glad that I did. Despite not being the most original story, it is a solid and...

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker review
STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER is a movie that I don't want to hate on but I struggle to say something positive about. I had extremely strong feelings about THE LAST OF THE JEDI but it actually was a movie that had something to say. For all of the disagreements I had about its treatment of Luke Skywalker and other subjects, it had an emotional heart. This film is something that just feels like empty spectacle. It has some beautiful scenes and quite a lot of ideas but they jump around so m...

Dick Tracy (1990) review
Dick Tracy is one of those movies that I end up returning to every few years. It's a film that has never received a vast following and rarely tops anyone's favorites but I think of it as a film that everyone should watch. It is the very definition of a cult classic and it is a film that has aged remarkably well due to its unique visual style. Sadly, the behind-the-scenes politics and behavior of Warren Beatty means we probably won't see any more Dick Tracy content until he died but at least ...

Star Wars: Shadow Fall by Alexander Freed review
SHADOW FALL by Alexander Freed is the sequel to ALPHABET SQUADRON. Alexander Freed has a history of writing Star Wars novels in the new canon that take a remarkably unglamorous look at the Galactic Civil War. His heroes are frequently cynical, full of trauma, and often confused at meeting people who really believe it is a battle of Good vs. Evil. Alexander Freed also tends to right very sympathetic Imperial characters with one of his books being a prequel to Inferno Squad.
