Eyes down

Recently back from a tour of launch events with Granta.

Granta 119 Britain by John Freeman

Many thanks to all who came along, and to the staff at the various venues who made the events such a joy to do.

Sun out as it is, I'm head down working on one of these:

The deadline is July...

Eleven Commandments

Never really one for suggesting there are 'rules' to writing. Or at least, to writing well. However, if I did write a list it would be very close to this one: eleven commandments from Henry Miller:

COMMANDMENTS

1. Work on one thing at a time until finished.
2. Start no more new books, add no more new material to "Black Spring."
3. Don't be nervous. Work calmly, joyously, recklessly on whatever is in hand.
4. Work according to Program and not according to mood. Stop at the appointed time!
5. When you can't create you can work.
6. Cement a little every day, rather than add new fertilizers.
7. Keep human! See people, go places, drink if you feel like it.
8. Don't be a draught-horse! Work with pleasure only.
9. Discard the Program when you feel like it—but go back to it next day. Concentrate. Narrow down. Exclude.
10. Forget the books you want to write. Think only of the book you are writing.
11. Write first and always. Painting, music, friends, cinema, all these come afterwards.

Writing isn't really something you can blog about, so instead, I'm going to post a recipe everytime I visit!

Enjoy.

Breaking (Wind) News

Bizarrely, The Fart gathered unexpected momentum since its release. Mercifully, it’s dissipating now, but being as this is the last day it will be free, I’m intrigued to see how far a further waft will push it.

Free for the rest of today (Feb 3rd)

THE FART - FREE on Kindle

Given it’s been a long January, I felt it appropriate to lighten the mood a little.

So, having been holding it back for a while, I thought it high time to float out “The Fart”.

The Fart, a mini story, is now available on Kindle. And for 5 days - from Monday 30th Jan to Friday 3rd Feb - it’s free on Amazon.

Better out than in, as they say. And it's only a small one.

Tell everyone. I'll take the blame.

The Fart
