Jay and Robin, Five for Silver (3)
Friends and Foes Jay Between Ira and a sore back, Robin was in a mood and now was sore with me too. The clear notes of a flute sounded out in the yard, followed by pipe and fiddle. A few squeaks and squeals later, they got each other’s measure and fell into a rhythm. Robin … Continue reading Jay and Robin, Five for Silver (3)

Life After Life
Do I want to know? What happens to our consciousness (spirit, soul, psyche…) after physical death? Are those ‘near death‘ experiences we read about sent to reassure us, or an effect of brain chemistry winding down? Can regression into past lives be explained away as lucid dreams or autosuggestion. However confident we are in our … Continue reading Life After Life

Jay and Robin, Five for Silver (2)
Hearthwarming Robin I fought the urge to limp, although no one was watching our progress down School Lane. It had been a long afternoon. The class was restless and the older ones who would soon be leaving had tried my patience. It happened every year; I could deal with it. But by home time I … Continue reading Jay and Robin, Five for Silver (2)

Jay and Robin: Five for Silver (1)
Cutler’s Forge Jay Here I was again, counting the hours till tomorrow. As I breathed in the smell of cooling charcoal, my thoughts were already on the road. Dust motes drifted in the late sunbeams that filtered through the windows of the forge to gleam on the bangles I’d just polished. Earrings were paired on … Continue reading Jay and Robin: Five for Silver (1)

Canine Catch-up
I’ve recently been dogsitting I’ve been dogsitting my stepson’s beagle for a fortnight and my son’s miniature dachshund for three days. As it happened, these coincided, so I’ve been walking a pack. The old beagle likes to hang behind and sniff, and I’ve lost track of her in the forest a couple of times. She … Continue reading Canine Catch-up

A Tale of Two Tarnfolk
Jay and Robin: Five for Silver. A story posted in chapters. As I continue to struggle to find topics to blog about, I’m publishis the story I first tackled when I began to write. Needless to say, I have revisited it many times in the years since then – probably too often. So I’m posting … Continue reading A Tale of Two Tarnfolk

Too Old to Believe
A seasonal shortie. “Mum, I need money for the bus.” Dorothy dried another mug. “No you don’t, Toby. It isn’t raining; and the walk’s good for you.” “I don’t want to walk past that old cottage. There’s a witch moved in with a warty nose and a black cat.” “That’s nice.” She put away the … Continue reading Too Old to Believe

What’s a Little Water?
Animals don’t seem bothered about getting wet. It probably isn’t clear from the photos, but the pigeons feasting on my grass seed in the picture above and the squirrel raiding the bird feeder below are doing so in pouring rain. Getting wet doesn’t seem to put them off. I recall, in my teens, travelling to … Continue reading What’s a Little Water?
