my mightiness is not exactly great, but it did show up on time
Project Valkyrie this weekend was walking, both Saturday and Sunday.
Today I used our new Wii Fit for 30 minutes. I have somewhat mixed feelings about it (see entry tag), but it provides variety--and it counts reps for me, which is also a plus.
And now my feet hurt.

UBC: Harvest of Despair
Berkhoff, Karel C. Harvest of Despair: Life and Death in Ukraine Under Nazi Rule. Cambridge, MA: Belknap Press, 2004.
This is a very difficult and painful book to read because, to put it vulgarly, the people of Ukraine could not catch a fucking break. They go from Stalin and the Terror-Famine to the Nazis, who quite deliberately starved the urban population and generally behaved like, well, Nazis, and at the end of the war, of course, they are doomed to go right back to Stalin; in post-WWII Sovie

5 things
1. Thank you to everyone who has expressed enthusiasm for the podcast of Chapter 2. I was surprised and very pleased at how happy it seems to make people.
2. I would be more impressed with the Oxford World's Classics collection of M. R. James stories, and with Michael Chabon's introduction thereto, if someone had noticed that Chabon gets the name of the main character of "'Oh Whistle and I'll Come to You My Lad'" wrong.
2a. Someone could probably do something interesting with James' "The Malice of

Because kate_nepveu asked nicely
--and because I wasn't getting anything done today anyway--
There will be a podcast of Chapter Two of Corambis. I've done the recording, so when it goes up will depend on when
mirrorthaw has the time to do his technogeek stuff to make it a manageable file.
I am not planning to put up text files of these sample chapters because, what with one thing and another, the electronic version I have of Corambis is at least two iterations back from the published version, and bringing it up to date will invol

Corambis ARC reaction shot
Another ARC recipient weighs in.
I don't think there are any concrete spoilers, although she does talk about how she feels about Corambis as the end of the series, so a person can gather certain things about how the book ends. Depending on the severity of your allergy to spoilers, you may or may not be bothered.

RAY: Okay, so a stewardess in Canada--
FRASER: Flight attendant.
RAY: A waitress in the sky in Canada is killed. Her pin shows up in the hand of a loser like Sonny on the South Side of Chicago in this dump? What is the deal?
WELSH: Well, that's why we have detectives, Detective. You are going to figure out that troublesome problem for us.
