Stand up for Europe campaign launched to target young voters

Eddie today (Monday 23rd May) kicked off a new campaign to visit 31 cities in the next 31 days in a bid to get young people to register for the referendum and vote to stay in Europe. His tour kicks off at Aston University in Birmingham today where he will give a speech to an audience of 200 students and take part in a Q&A.

Young people will be key to the result - a recent poll by the National Union of Students found 76 per cent of students want to Remain with just 14 per cent back Leave. But Ipsos MORI found 18-24-year-olds were almost half as likely to vote as the over-65s, with just 44 per cent voting compared to 76 per cent.

Among the cities he will visit over the next four weeks are Edinburgh, Belfast, Cardiff, Manchester and Cambridge, appearing at universities, schools and other community events.

Ahead of his first event, Eddie said: “We know the overwhelming majority of young people want to stay in Europe because of the opportunities it presents to work, to study and to travel. I share their positive view of Europe – I am a British European who has performed in German, French and Spanish. 

“But if they are not registered, they can’t vote and those opportunities will be taken away without them getting to have their say. It only takes two minutes to register on a smartphone and it must be done by June 7th.

“I got chances from Europe that the generation before me never got – just imagine what benefits young people will get in the future. This could be the biggest decision of their lives and I want to help make sure they get their chance to have their say.”

Stand Up For Europe

Eddie is proud to be a British European and strongly believes that Britain should fight for our right to remain in Europe.

On 23 May, Eddie will launch Stand Up For Europe, his campaign to encourage people of all ages across the UK to register and vote IN.

Kicking off in Birmingham, Eddie will visit 31 cities in 31 days across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

As we count down to 23 June, you are invited to hear Eddie talk about why it is in all our interests, no matter what your age, to Stand Up for Europe. Come and listen and you can put your questions to him.

Force Majeure 333

Eddie will perform his Force Majeure show 3 times in 3 languages over 3 one hour shows. 

7pm in German  |  8pm in French  |  9pm in English

Eddie first performed his 333 shows in Caen, Normandy on 6th June 2014 - the 70th anniversary of D-Day. He is performing the shows in support of the STRONGER IN EUROPE campaign.

27 Marathons in 27 Days

Eddie is donning his running shoes once again, and attempting to complete a staggering 27 marathons in 27 days across South Africa.  That’s 707 miles (1,134 km) in temperatures in excess of 40 degrees C.

Force Majeure Reloaded - Extra London dates added

Due to high demand Eddie Izzard is adding a final extra week of shows to his Force Majeure Reloaded residence at the Palace Theatre.  Must finish February 20th Feb 2016.

Force Majeure World Tour - France 2015

Eddie Izzard, surreal British comedian and an honorary member of the Monty Python’s, is returning to France this autumn to the Casino de Paris and for his first French tour. After travelling the world in English, Eddie will perform his new show Force Majeure in French!

FORCE MAJEURE is the most extensive comedy tour ever. It began its mammoth journey around the globe during spring 2013. From London to Los Angeles, Moscow to Melbourne, Chicago to Cape Town once this world tour draws to a close Eddie and FORCE MAJEURE will have visited over 27 countries throughout Europe, USA, Africa, Russia, Australia and New Zealand.
