Hurricane Electric

I’ve hosted this domain, including email, with Hurricane Electric since 1998. At the time, he.net was a stand-out shared hosting provider that offered unlimited bandwidth and the latest version of PHP. I recommended their dedicated hosting product to clients that I ended up winning an original XBox in 2002. However, it’s now time to part ways. I host several sites on a Rackspace cloud server (after having started on slicehost.com). It’s just a lot more flexible and easy for me to have root on an Ubuntu server. Regardless, the service at he.net has always been great, and I wish them continued success.

Banned from Scouts for Not Pledging Allegiance to God

11-Year-Old Banned from Scouting After Not Pledging Allegiance to God

It turns out Boy Scouts aren’t much better in the UK, either. In another completely ridiculous and not-at-all-shocking twist, The Scout Association has denied an 11-year-old boy from being admitted into their exclusive, Godly club.

George Pratt refused to recognize God — or any diety — when reciting The Scout Promise, so they didn’t allow him to be a part of their group.

Statist Bingo

Play at home with your anarchist friends, but don’t get caught crossing out boxes. They might want to protect you from your gambling addiction.

The Illusion of the State

Since the state is not actually a thing that exists, it is a very accurate observation to define the state as an idea in someone’s (a statist’s) mind.

This idea that a group should be given the permission to aggress and steal rests on a very low, unconscious or subconscious level.

On top of this the statist layers simple euphemistic soundbites and bromides that have been studiously and relentlessly pounded into his head by other statists from childhood on.

Army Suicides Exceed Combat Deaths

The consensus in the comments in this conservative news site seems to be that these guys are killing themselves because they hate the president. That doesn’t fit. I don’t imagine people kill themselves because they hate their boss several levels up the chain. I imagine that to contemplate suicide is to be insufferable mental anguish and not see any other way to escape. What ideas do these young people have and what experiences are they getting where the two mix to choose death over any alternative?

Army Suicides This Year Exceed 2012 Combat Deaths in Afghanistan | CNSNews.com

The number of suicides among U.S. Army active duty and reserve personnel in 2012 is higher than the total combined military fatalities from Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan over the same timeframe.

Even without Army data for October, the number of deaths believed to be suicides among U.S. Army personnel from January through September still surpass the combined military combat deaths in Afghanistan from January up to October 22.

Global Warming in Charts

The Golbal Warming Catastrophe in Charts

All in all, I think we can safely conclude that global warming is unprecedented, impending, man-made, and catastrophic. The science is settled, and if you have the slightest shred of a doubt you are an annoying, ignorant, bigoted, Republican, anti-scientific big business oil/coal/whatever lobbyist who clubs baby seals and eats their hearts for breakfast!

Santorum considers happiness overrated

This outrageous rhetoric is what you’d expect from a monk from the 14th century or over a loudspeaker while waiting hours for bread in Soviet Russia. Did God grant us the right to be happy? No. God does not exist. Rights don’t exist. Reality exists, and if it’s not obvious to you that a human being requires freedom to live as a human being, you are mentally ill.

There is nothing more significant to pursue but your own happiness. If you consider the pursuit of happiness to be overrated or somehow not a highest value, I can only conclude you wish to enslave me.

Rick Santorum slams ‘pursuit of happiness’ – Patrick Gavin – POLITICO.com

For those who might think Rick Santorum is a bit old-fashioned, they need look no further than his new book, “American Patriots.” The book goes back — way back — to recall the glory days of the Revolutionary War. “There are so many Revolutionary heroes and heroines from all walks of life,” writes Santorum, who seems…

Minecraft 1.4 is Out!

The new version of Minecraft came out yesterday! My kids are thrilled, although we also got a copy of Halo 2 for our original XBOX yesterday, so there’s lots of competition for attention.

Video of Temple Rituals Released

I guess the gloves are off, now. In America, where atheists are the most-hated minority, where 40% of people deny evolution, it’s typically off limits to bring attention to any article of faith. It’s a gentleman’s agreement: don’t mention how I pretend to drink my god’s blood and I won’t question your prophet’s marriage to a 9 year old girl. But the stakes are high. Mitt Romney has a slight edge in the polls. It must be too tempting now to resist pointing to that man behind the curtain.

But beware of the law of unintended consequences. Start laughing at someone else’s religion, and then you might find yourself amused by the absurdity of all religion. And after that, if you’re lucky, you’ll find yourself shedding your faith in the state as cure-all. That’s why I like Obama. He answers Romney’s bland pragmatism with raw nihilism. If we can only survive another four years of this self-destruction, we might have nothing left to rely on but the truth.

Mormon temple ceremonies are a closely held secret. Until now. For the first time in the 170+ year history of secret Mormon temple activity, those activities…
