Russia, 1896

Colorised, obviously, but these photos are completely fascinating to me. Being able to see back to a hundred and thirteen years ago, with such incredible natural immediacy… and yet, in places, the images appear so alien, so strange…

The harbour, such as it is, at Battlesbridge — more of a watery lay-by — is littered with sailing barges and houseboats that have been run aground. Some abandoned, some inhabited, one or two actually moored for a temporary stop. I believe the new lock gates, on the other side of the bridge, are due to be hooked up to a tidal power generator at some point. The coming days: The week ahead | The Economist
"A GENERAL election is held in Norway on Monday September 14th. Opinion polls suggest that the race is wide open, although a change of government is the more likely outcome, with a coalition of centre-left parties giving way to a coalition of centre-right ones. Particular attention will be paid to the success of the populist and anti-immigrant Progress Party, which has fared well in recent years…"

PAPERNET: Urban Paper

Jean Snow:

…the "Urban Paper" paper toy art show and book launch is still happening at Cafe Pause next month. As you can see above, Josh has designed a very cool poster for the show, starring the show's mascot. More than just a graphic, the little dude can actually be printed out an
