Podcast List 4mar13
I prefer to timeshift these to the middle of the bloody night…!
I have finally succeeded in unlinking my podcasts from iTunes, using the excellent Downcast app. Downcast does what I always needed iTunes to do: properly sync between the iPhone and the iPad and remember what I’m doing. So now I’m all set.
I will say, though, that the discovery process isn’t quite as good on Downcast. Not enough categories.
I always wanted BERG to do a podcast. They could have called it BERG Longwave, and ended it with a version of The Shipping Forecast, only in Shoreditch, and with pubs.
This is the current list. It’s getting edited through over the next few days.
Feel free to send me recommendations, based on the below list, @warrenellis. I mean, if anyone’s awake at this hour. I’m not. This is firing while I am sleeping the sleep of the virtuous.*

video calling as "always-on, ambient, background presence." I love it when BERG do these breakdowns.

New Book Suggests Return from Death Possible : Discovery News
“Although most people think this takes place in only four or five minutes, we now know that actually brain cells are viable for up to eight hours … We now understand that it’s only after a person has turned into a corpse that their cells are undergoing death, and if we therefore manipulate those processes, we can restart the heart and bring a person back to life.”

Received Goods: MIRO Notebooks
Sent to me for review by MIRO themselves, because, I suspect, it’s well known that I go through a lot of notebooks. Their new line comes in two flavours – Wood, on the far left and right, and Felt, in the middle. The wood covers, while thin and flexible, feel fairly robust, though I confess I don’t want to test them to destruction, as they are quite beautiful.
These arrived today, and just in time. There are some projects that I prefer to work out in a larger notebook, and a couple of those projects just surfaced. So at least one of these books (or, at least, one of the two I have left after my daughter steals two) will be immediately pressed into service. And, therefore, I’ll be writing at a later date about how well they hold up.
You can find them at remembermiro.com or @remembermiro.

A Conference With Me At The WELL
It runs for, I think, another eight days or so. This is the link.
…a novel’s a novel, regardless of how it’s displayed. I don’t think about the container at all. It’s words on a surface. Digital doesn’t actually change that. The only real changes digital have brought, as far as I’m concerned, are delivery speed and the ability to lift three Neal Stephenson novels at once.
