On The New Girl

S.L. Grey, The New Girl - One good thing about becoming a blue-collar worker at the age of thirty-eight is that he feels a righteous resentment towards the managing classes. - - The kids' room is unnaturally neat...as if the child's a short-term guest in this lavish room. ...The only hint of the boy's personality is a row of comic-hero figurines lining a clean, white shelf above a desk. - - If the advertisements are a true reflection of a society in the node, then female browns always eat yogurt together. - - The Mothers always ask the same question...

On The All-Girl Filling Station's Last Reunion

Fainnie Flagg, The All-Girl Filling Station's Last Reunion - Sookie, honey, I've known your mother all my life, and the problem with Lenore has always been trying to figure out what behavior is just 'delightfully eccentric' and what's 'as batty as hell.' - - Yesterday, I was a Southern Methodist English person, and today, I'm a Polish Catholic person with an unknown father.' - - 'Thanks again for your service, good luck, and happy landings.' On the beauty of everday

I wanted to reopen the beauty of literature. For me, writing is dynamic – every action has depth, and is worth describing in its entirety. When you write about someone taking a bath, for instance, you have to see and show it for what it is, and a bath can be something quite magnificent at different times in your life. There’s no other medium, apart from fiction, that can do justice to that moment. I wanted to help the reader see the beauty in everyday things. - Karen Jayes, O Magazine 'A Life-Giving Force'

On The Blacks of Cape Town

C.A. Davids, The Blacks of Cape Town - After a bath, and a deathly sleep on a mattress that had been softened with the bodies and sins of countless people, Isaiah awoke to a new life and a new name. - - 'I ride the trains most days,' the stranger persisted. 'You never know who you will meet. Like you, who knew I would met you today?' he said, and waited. - Eventually Bart did learn to keep his untidy thoughts where they could not be seen. So Bart grew alone and the history inside of him found no exit,...
