Doldrums and Dandelions

Again, I've been fighting off the Pre-Release Doldrums caused by the Invisible Author Syndrome. I tell myself I should be out pimping Mobry's Dick, then ask myself, Why? Who gives a rip? (Yes, it's entirely possible I have too many selves and they don't know when to shut the eff up!) Hopping over to Goodreads wasn't a good idea, since (a.) I still have no clue what role authors play in the m/m group and (b.) that group makes me feel even more invisible -- which, as I suggested above, is not c...

The Luxury of Reading

I don't have a lot of time to indulge in my favorite leisure activity -- hate that! -- but a certain biography recently caught my attention. (Actually, many, many books catch my attention, but being able to afford them and read them comfortably are entirely different matters.) Since this book isn't big and I don't have to sit in front of my desktop to get through it, I figured I'd give it a try. (You can't imagine what a treat it is for me to curl up in bed or in my favorite chair to read!)

Th...

Mobry's Dick -- Wherein I (Again) Find My History Groove

Before I get to MD, I want to send out my sincere thanks to Erin Schmidt at Rainbow Reviews for taking the time to read and comment on Jude in Chains. It's been a while since one of my books has been reviewed on that site, so I'm particularly grateful for Erin's notice.

Now . . . as I've mentioned every time I've blabbed about Mobry's Dick, the novel has historical chapters (from 1899 to 1903) scattered among its contemporary chapters. This is the first time I've delved into the past since I w...

So what's new?

InDescent made the Literary Nymphs Hot List (the top picks of outstanding and recommended reads) for 2009.
Fugly now has its own page at Liquid Silver's "House of SiN" forums.
Mobry's Dick (approximately 67,000 words) is being released in two weeks. It's listed on one of the Coming Soon pages at Loose Id. However, going to that page won't tell you anything, so here's a long blurb:
Late-19th-century illusionist Alain Mobry, a short, homely man with a clubfoot, is known primarily for his...

My Pix of the (Alternative) RT Convention

You might not know about this con, but it's specifically for flat-broke writers with friends in low places.

Now, on with the show!
Although I was greeted with a tackle hug and squee at the Izaboutshittin Super 8 Motel (I guess that's how they greet every attendee), you can't see me in this photo. I am on the ground, beneath the butt of the guy on the left, picking grass and a substance I couldn't identify out of my teeth. But, hey, it's the thought that counts.

After freshening up in my room...

The Title Dilemma

I'm still tossing around title ideas for a book Loose Id will be publishing.

This is unusual for me. Bastards and Pretty Boys, The Prayer Waltz, Jude in Chains, Mobry's Dick, and Fugly all came to me at the same time the stories did or, in some cases, before (with the kernel of the story embedded within them). So this indecision is making me a little crazy.

The new book, still technically in the WIP stage, is a friends-to-lovers tale that spans forty years (1970 to 2010), although the vast ma...

Ouch! I've been tagged!

At least it's easier on my body than a tackle hug.

So, it appears Ms. Wren Boudreau (click on post title to view "Nonsense and Little Things") expects me to bare my soul and list ten things that make me happy. I suppose it's less embarrassing than listing ten things that make me sad, 'cause then I'd have to get into TMI territory -- like peeing my pants when I sneeze or laugh too hard. So here goes, in no particular order. Don't expect anything juicy, 'cause you ain't gettin' it. I'm not taggi...

Dig this.

Okay, so I notice at Goodreads that there's some thread re. humorous lines from m/m books. A member quoted a couple from Jude in Chains. Then in zings a response from another (author) member whose first name begins with A and whose last begins with S.

Euw. If that's supposed to be funny.... I felt ill reading that.

One man's trash etc, I guess.

So she not only called my book trash without ever having read it, she impugned the taste of the innocent poster. Now that's a class act.

This particular i...
