Happy Halloween

Pumpkin
The round, edible fruit of a trailing vine, pumpkins are a symbol of fertility. Dead spirits are invoked by the pumpkin when faces are carved into it, and it is lit from within. The spiral of life is represented by the pumpkin; the harvest brings death, but the seeds bring birth.

From my novel, "The Memory Garden"

The Whole World Falls

We are having a strange autumn, the leaves seem to be changing color and falling all in the same day. Then again, this might be a matter of perspective. Is it true that the divisions I once saw so clearly have disappeared, or is it true that they never existed? I like this time in my life when it seems I see in most things the presence of their opposite until the opposite is dissolved. Why did no one ever tell me this secret of growing older? How I love this life of dissolution! What solace there is here.
