2015 Writing Goals

People generally fall into two camps when it comes to New Year's Resolutions. Some hate them. Others are hooked on them. I'm in the later camp. After the long holiday break, and the turning of the last page on the 2014 calendar, it seems natural to consider the potential of the upcoming twelve months. How to spend the limited time? What goals are most important to accomplish?

When it comes to my writing, I'd like to focus on fewer books, but spend more time coddling each of them before they are published.

I'd also like to arrange my deadlines so that most of my work falls in Calgary's long winter months, maximizing the time I can spend enjoying our brief, glorious summer.

The older I get, the more I realize how fortunate I've been in my life and the importance of making a contribution toward the welfare of others and creating a better future. When I was invited by a publisher to participate in a project to benefit Ovarian Cancer Research, I decided that in 2015 this would be my opportunity to do so.

So. These are my goals. And now that I've written them down, I had better do my best to live up to them!

Happy 2015 - may this be a year for all of us to enjoy and grow and give!

What are your goals for 2015?

Promise Me, Cowboy now Free!

Promise Me, CowboyC.J. CarmichaelI've recently priced the first book of my Carrigan's of the Circle C series free. Why did I do that? To make it easier for readers to sample this series and decide if this is the type of story they enjoy.

Hopefully the answer is yes! So many readers have taken the time to write reviews and send messages telling me they enjoy the small-town setting, the clean romance, and the family values in these books. As a writer, my challenge is to hook the reader with complex emotional conflicts, unpredictable plot twists, and memorable characters.

I also love it when my stories surprise readers with something they didn't see coming, but which makes total sense when they look back on the stories. I'm happy to report readers are saying they loved the secrets revealed in the last book of this series:

Book 1: Promise Me, Cowboy (novella)
Book 2: Good Together (novel)
Book 3: Close To Her Heart (novel)
Book 4: Snowbound in Montana (novella)
Book 5: A Cowgirl's Christmas (novel)

I hope you'll give the Carrigans of the Circle C a try, and if you enjoy them, let me know! And if you want to keep up with all my news, as well as be included in the regular draws I make for giveaways, please sign up for my newsletter.

Cheers from C.J. Carmichael

Close To Her Heart

I've tackled a sensitive topic in my newest book, and I can't wait to hear how my readers feel about it: Close To Her Heart.

Dani Carrigan has always relied on logic when making important life decisions, but when she discovers she’s pregnant – and that there’s a chance her baby may be born “not perfect”— logic lets her down.

It would help if the baby’s father would pop the question, but widowed father Adrian seems more interested in protecting his six-year-old daughter than committing to his new relationship with Dani.

The last time she felt this alone and scared was when she was 16 and her mother died, leaving Dani to raise her younger sisters with precious little help from her distant and disapproving rancher father. She felt so inadequate then, but is she any more prepared to be a mother now?

Support comes from an unlikely source. Dani always saw her next-door neighbour and friend, divorce attorney Elliot Gilmore, as a charming, handsome, playboy-type. But with each challenge she faces, from pregnancy, to delivery and beyond—Elliot reveals himself a better man than she ever guessed.

Is it possible that Elliot hasn’t been playing the field—but waiting for her?

Family Matters

A Daughter's Place by C.J. Carmichael Three of the early books I published with Harlequin Enterprises are ones that my readers often remember most and ask me about. They've been out of print for years. And for a long time were not available as ebooks, either.

That changed this month when the rights to those books reverted to me. I've had new covers designed and have updated the stories and linked them into a series I call Family Matters. Because family does matter. Especially in these stories.

If you're interested in seeing the new covers and maybe checking out the books, please visit my Books page on my website and look for:
BOOK 1: A Daughter's Place
BOOK 2: Her Best Friend's Baby
BOOK 3: The Fourth Child
You'll find them here (scroll down a little, they are on this page): http://cjcarmichael.com/books/index.php

Happy reading!

Mother's Day Romance Bundles

The month of May brings flowers, longer days and Mother's Day. My Mom loved to read--it was something we had in common. If you're lucky enough to still have your mother in your life, maybe she would enjoy the gift of stories this year.

If so, I have two recommendations for you. Great reads and great bargains, too. (How can you miss when $4 buys you 24 romance stories from some of today's best-selling authors?)

The stories come in two beautiful anthologies. The first one, Mother’s Day Romance Bundle, will only be available for a short period and currently costs just one dollar. Jane Porter, Megan Crane and Lilian Darcy are among the authors who have contributed stories to this special Mother’s Day collection (plus you’ll find my own Promise Me, Cowboy). This offer won’t last long—so why not treat Mom, Grandma and yourself this Mother’s Day?

The second anthology, A Sweet Life, is a collection of 14 contemporary romances by bestselling authors Belle Andre, Barbara Freethy, Heather Graham, Susan Mallery, Brenda Novak, Carly Philips, Rachel Van Dyken, Susan Wiggs, Steena Holmes, Lauren Hawkeye, Julia Kent, Jane Porter, RaeAnne Thayne and Jennifer Probst with a foreward by Debbie Macomber. Not only are all these stories available for just three dollars—but proceeds will benefit Diabetes Research.

New Website Coming…And Another Novel

Welcome to the new year of 2014–I hope it brings you happiness and health…and lots of good reads. It’s going to be an exciting start for me, as I’m working on two new debuts, the first an entirely re-designed website. I can hardly wait to unveil the new look and improved functionality being developed by Waxcreative. Hopefully in just a few more weeks…

At the same time I’ll be bringing you the first novel to follow from Promise Me, Cowboy (which was Sage Carrigan’s story). Good Together is another Carrigan’s Of The Circle C Novel. If you want a sneak peek at what to expect, check out the images that have been inspiring me as I work on the final chapters, hoping to release the story around the same time as the new website.

Stay tuned…Carmichael_Carrigans_GoodTogether-209x300
