“Literature is the product of life. Life is its soil. And the richness or poverty of the soil determines whether a work of literature is vigorous or feeble. A great tree will not grow from barren land; only rich soil and clear water will enable it to flourish.”
― Gu Hua, A Small Town Called Hibiscus

“Cây nến cháy, lửa xanh, lửa đỏ,
Chân nến kia, lệ nhỏ lâm ly.
Lệ khô, khi tắt nến đi,
Cô em khóc lóc, giọng kia đã khàn.
Cây nến cháy, lửa vàng, lửa đỏ,
Ngồi cùng em, hát đỡ đôi câu.
Tình đau, khúc hát cũng rầu
Kim đâm vào mắt, lệ đau chảy tràn...”
― Gu Hua
