What inspired you to write this book?
I was intrigued by the short, fierce, and uncompromising Terriot prince who appeared in name only in an earlier book in my “By Moonlight” series to threaten that book’s hero’s gentle cousin Kendra with a forced mating in order for to save her family and him to claim his clan’s crown.  The Terriots, unlike the disorganized clan of shape-shifter in New Orleans, were brutal warriors who took what they wanted and wanted whatever they saw. And Cale wanted Kendra. Then I got wondering what kind of past would draw two such unlikely opposites together.  That was explored in PRINCE OF SHADOWS. When they had their happily-ever-after, I felt things were still unresolved. There was too much bad blood between their family and too much guilt over deeds done for them to settle down comfortably to rule their clan. And then Cale gets a call from Kendra’s cousin asking for his help . . .
How did you come up with the title?
Thinking up unique yet similar words to go into a series title gets complicated. UNLEASHED seemed perfect for this story because it’s about letting go of the past as well as regrets and restraints. And, when he’s fighting there’s that control collar on my dog of war.
 If you had to sell your book based on one run of dialogue (start quote to end quote), which would it be?
"Don't make the mistake of thinking I'm not in control. Those who have in the past regret that error. Those few still alive.  I am a Terriot king. I am never weak when strength is demanded. You'd be a fool to believe otherwise."  - Cale Terriot, House of Terriot  
Tell us about your book cover and how it relates to your story.
UNLEASHED BY SHADOWS is my second self-published book out of 58 (!) so developing the cover was as important to me as writing the story.  It had to be just right.  I was looking for something that would blend with the other covers in the series but standout at the same time. After spending hours and hours looking at “sexy male torso” graphics, I finally found one that represented both the driven and the softer side of my hero. But my graphic artist, Patricia Lazarus, who has done tons of great stuff for me, wasn’t sure the dimensions would work for the cover. So, back to torsos . . . We both kept coming back to the mysterious figure in the hoodie, but I still wasn’t sold until she worked up both graphics and I knew that was the one. I got her to compromise by using the other as the back cover and in my promo and book trailer. Best of both worlds!
Are you currently working on another story? If so, we’d love some details.
I’m putting together a novella series called “The House of Terriot Foursome.”  Once you meet Cale’s hot stuff brothers, you’ll understand why. Their conflicts are set up in UNLEASHED and it was hard for me to concentrate on doing edits with their individual storylines distracting me.  I can’t wait to get to them.
Tell us about your favorite writing environment. Is it indoors, outdoors, a special room, etc.
I have a loft office in my apartment dedicated to my craft (and my reading/writing clutter). I hit the computer every morning at 5:00 a.m., armed with my Keurig coffee, and tackle my work-in-progress until I have to leave for my 9-to-5. 
I’d lost steam writing UNLEASHED BY SHADOWS and took a break to visit one of my critique partners who lives in Arizona.  Borrowing her desk for a week, looking out over desert creatures at sunrise as they came to get water and food right outside the window was just what I needed to revitalize. Talk about inspiration! I think I wrote five chapters while I was there. Environment is everything when it comes to creativity!
It’s time to promo. What is your favorite marketing tool?
I actually LOVE doing promo.  I’m OCD so organizing and list making is my thing. I enjoy wading into the planning process, setting up blog visits, creating content for playlists and book trailers, doing the back cover copy, hunting for those elusive graphics—the whole enchilada.  Example: my Haunted Open House Book Party that’s going on this week.  That’s a lot to put together along with a self-pubbed book! Thank goodness for my virtual assistant, the Novel Difference, for taking my ideas to fruition.  I’m an idea person, so I guess my favorite tool is the mighty list to follow.Do you write books in series? If so, share a bit about the series you currently have published or are coming soon.
My “By Moonlight” dark paranormal shape-shifter series started with the book of my heart and a fabulous hero in the dark, dangerous and yet still vulnerable Max Savoie. Once I started, I was in the middle of book four before I came up for breath. Those books were unique in that they contain the same hero and heroine—Max, bodyguard to a mobster and possible Prophesied One to an outcast Shifter clan in New Orleans and NOPD detective Charlotte Caissie who is determined to bring down his boss/mentor. The series branched off from there into the “Shadows” books developing secondary characters and the same underlying story arc while exploring new plotlines.  Readers hounded me to bring Max back in his own book, which I did with REMEMBERED BY MOONLIGHT and when Cale, my hero in PRINCE OF SHADOWS, appeared in it, he started to run off with the book so I had to promise him more of his story in UNLEASHED BY SHADOWS.  Though the books are all intertwined, each can stand alone.
If you could make changes to a story you’ve already written, which would it be and why?
I’ve gotten the unique opportunity to revisit the books in my “Touched by Midnight” vampire romance series.  The first three of the nine book series are finally back in print after being buried in the ‘90s. ImaJinn Books, who picked up the original series with books 4-9, is repackaging all the books with new covers (which I’ve gotten to help design!) and a chance for me to spruce up my prose.  The first three were hardly edited at all and there were a lot of glaring errors as well as passive “was”s and bouncing point of view. It was the ‘90s, after all, and we didn’t know any better!  It gave me a chance to fall in love with the series all over again.  Book 4, MIDNIGHT ENCHANTMENT is a late October rerelease.
I was able to do the same when Bell Bridge, another imprint of BelleBooks, reissued my four Dana Ransom contemporary romances, providing them to a whole new audience.
I’m hoping to self-publish my old Dana Ransom western historical series next year, so that gives me lots of books (and torsos) to play with!

He’d been schooled beneath the heavy heel and meaty fists of Bram Terriot, bearing the marks of those lessons scored into his skin and once tender psyche. He understood intimidation better than he did compassion. Had once indulged in every savagery Lee now expected from him. Would have become a brutal, heartless monster walking the same path his father followed had it not been for the two things that called to his latent decency: The brothers who’d fearlessly stood beside him and the female brave enough to believe his claims.
He owed them. He owed his family prosperous lives without fear and subjugation, where pride wasn’t measured in cruelties. He owed the woman he loved the fulfillment of promises made by a starry-eyed boy. He owed them a future in which they bowed to no one and had no reason to expect the worse from one another. “Murderer!” She shoved him back with such force, he toppled from the bed in a tangle of furs. 
“Fiona, ’tis me, Duncan,” he cried as he struggled to stand.
What had come over her? One moment they were caressing beneath the warm furs, and the next she had sprung from his bed, screaming like a banshee.
“I know who you are, MacQuoid. Dragonslayer!” She ended on a shrill sob before covering her face with her hands.
Duncan stood, kicking the furs to the side and reaching for her. “I am a dragonslayer no more, Fiona.”
“Why did you make love to me? You should have killed me like you did the rest of my kind.” She rushed through the flap of his tiny hut into the cool morning air.
Swearing under his breath, Duncan wrapped a fur around his waist and chased after her. 
Surely they had both gone mad.
The morning was exceptionally cold, and Fiona wore not a stitch of clothes. A chill wind from the north whipped the heavy branches overhead into a frenzy. Autumn leaves danced around Fiona’s feet as she wept, kneeling beside a fallen oak. 
The sharp edge of her suffering pierced the cavity of Duncan’s chest. He still did not understand how her emotions had been tethered to his own, but he did feel her pain, so keen he thought his heart would break from it.  
“Fiona, you are mistaken. Come inside where ’tis warm,” he pleaded.
She looked up at him through tear-soaked eyes. “You killed my mother!” Her body shook with violent tremors. “You struck her with a spear, and she had never sought to harm mankind. Never!”
Duncan’s head spun and he felt weightless. Mouth agape, he stared at her, hoping his senses would return. And then the words from the she-dragon reverberated through his skull.
I have never sought to harm mankind. Never!
“’Twas a dragon I speared, not a human.” But even as he said the words, he knew ’twas a lie. That dragon had been no dumb beast. She was something more.
“She was my mother!” Fiona wailed. “She was kind and good and all I had left in the world.”
“Fiona,” Duncan struggled for words, knowing nothing he could say would ever bring back her mother. “Forgive me.” Stepping forward, he reached out, needing to touch her and soothe her pain.
“Do not touch me! Do not ever touch me!”
What happened next Duncan would not have believed had he not seen the she-dragon transform into a beautiful woman each night in his dreams.
But those were dreams, and the dragon hovering above him now was no fantasy, though just a moment before she had been his beautiful lass.
Panting like a wounded animal, she singed his hair with her fiery breath. 
Duncan did not cower. He did not fear. They had shared a connection when he loved her beneath the light of the full moon. She would not harm him now.  
He looked up into her amber eyes, which were the same as last night, only larger, sadder. ’Twas then he knew neither of them would come away from this unscathed. For her heart was shattered, and he did not know how he could live without her forgiveness.

Excerpt  The stink of humans slathered in too much cologne and perfume competed with the smell of open beers and possible promiscuity in a cloud of inevitable shame—at least to Seth. He wasn’t sure why he still bothered to come down from his hill to visit the dance hall, but it was a ritual he practiced on one specific night of every year.
“Seth!” called Alex Jewel. “Good to see you, man.”
Seth grunted and nodded as he passed over the cover charge. “’Sup, buddy?”
“Not much. Haven’t seen you in ages. How the hell have you been?”
With a shrug, Seth headed past him and down the hall that led to the bar and dance floor. The ritual must be completed exactly for him to feel satisfied, which meant one beer on the outside patio, one inside, then he could go home.
Not that fulfilling the pattern actually made him feel any better at the end of the day. Still...
He ordered the first beer and headed outside with it. Few were out on the patio, but then again that was typical, too, for this time of year. Only the really dedicated smokers or secret lovers looking for a quiet dark spot would bother to brave the humid, still summer air—filled with tiny and annoying biting bugs—to sit outside.
Watching a single large-wing katydid perched on the fence helped him pass the time. He ignored the humans with their clouds of smoke and lust. The katydid busily cleaned his wings while Seth sipped the beer. It wasn’t as cold as he preferred, and he never drank this brand any other time of the year, but that, too, was part of the tradition.
Soon, his beer had been emptied and the katydid had flown to do whatever important insect tasks awaited him in the darkness.
Heading back inside, Seth caught the scent of a wolf and scanned the dance floor to see if he recognized whoever it might be.
He pinpointed the direction of the aroma to be near the stage, which meant the smell must be coming from one of two women dancing near the speakers. He couldn’t help the half smile the sight brought him. One of the women wore silver leg braces, yet danced with carefree abandon and a smile. Her movements might be restricted by her obviously weak legs, yet her joy flowed as effervescent as anyone else’s in the room, if not more. Next to her dark haired beauty, her dance partner looked particularly mundane. The other woman had boy-short blonde hair and seemed just as happy. Something about the pair caught his wolf’s attention, but he wasn’t sure what other than the fact it was good to see an obviously crippled woman having a good time with a friend.
Shrugging off the oddity, he moved to the bar to order the second ritual beer. Once he had it in hand, he headed for the small booth at the back of the dance hall as per routine. From there, however, he broke the pattern a bit. Instead of staring at the Elvis cut-out hanging on the wall below a clock with only fives—because it was always five o’clock somewhere—he watched the girls dancing.
At one point, the blonde went and got them both drinks, so they backed away from the dance floor to cool off then went right back to dancing. His wolf stirred again, but he disregarded it. But then the blonde looked in his direction, a flash of yellow in her eyes. His wolf more than stirred at the glance, practically clawing him from the inside. Unsettled, he stood to leave. He’d finished the beer and therefore the dance hall portion of the ritual.
At the door, someone caught his arm. “Hey, do I know you?”

Too wired to sleep, Elen opened the wine and poured a glass, sipping quietly as she walked over to
the bed.  Cormack slept above the coverlet and on his back, with one arm raised over his head, while the other rested by his side.  His hair was still damp from his shower, and he wore jeans but no shirt, as if he’d just rested his head and sleep claimed him first.

His chest rose and fell with even breaths.  She was not one to marvel over physical attributes, but this was Cormack, and his body was meant for pleasure, like a goddess had molded him for her personal divine gratification.  His frame was large, and toned, with wide shoulders and a firm chest that tapered down to his hips.  His hardened stomach would provide the perfect friction were she to ride him just like this.
And as that image flooded her mind, another, more wicked one, followed.  It was greedy, and selfish, but all her niceness had been used up for the day.  He looked peaceful, and innocent, but the man was practically immortal after all.  Their kind did not die from lack of sleep.  They might go mad, of course, but that took a few weeks.  And had he not said, do with me as you will?
She needed to touch him.  That was all.  Well, no, she wanted more, but for now that would do.  Taking a sip of her wine, she gently set the glass on an end table by the bed, and gave into temptation.  Starting by his heart, she brushed lightly across his chest, tracing down the indent between, and lingering on the valleys and curves of his muscles.  Flattening her hand over his stomach, she felt the soft hair that began just above the waistband of his jeans and disappeared below.  She had never seen him in this restful state, at least not in his human form, and took in her ravenous fill.
Her hand lingered over the button of his jeans.  She swallowed, wanting… Oh, how she wanted.  It burned like molten earth, fed by a need that had been denied for too long.  Even now she felt her body moisten and swell just from imagining what waited beyond that closure, and how it would feel inside her.
Or how it would taste.
She thumbed the button.  A quick flick was all it would take.
A sound made her jolt, an intake of breath perhaps, followed by a sudden rise under her hands.  She snapped her eyes to his face.
Cormack was awake.
And watching her.
A fire raged within his cerulean gaze.  “Kill me now if you stop, Elen, because then I’ll know I’m well and truly cursed and I cannot be tortured anymore.”

Cassie nodded and as they’d done the past couple of nights, they settled into comfortable conversation. She was a pleasure to chat with. Though humble, she possessed a sharp wit. He suspected had she pursued any of her college majors, she would have excelled.
Yet the more he got to know her the more he sensed she lived her life a certain way…as if she knew its outcome already. Almost like someone planning to move to another country and preparing themselves for a different language and customs. Eventually, he intended to find out exactly what she was getting ready for. Whatever it was, it had her purposely changing subjects on a somewhat regular basis.
As he figured she would, Cassie eventually said, “Why are we eating separately from everyone tonight?”
Though tempted to say it was unintentional, he would be lying. The truth was he wanted her all to himself. “‘Twas a trying experience earlier. I thought you might want some privacy to relax.”
She arched her brow and offered a lopsided grin. “Yet you’re here.”
“Well, you cannae be alone in these woods, lass.” He polished off his meat and leaned back on his hands so that his shoulder was almost against hers. Voice lowered, he said, “And I’ll admit to wanting to spend some time alone with you. ‘Tis a luxury I rarely get.”
 “Ah.” This time he didn’t have to touch her to enjoy her becoming blush. His eyes dropped to her mouth when she licked her lips. He had never wanted to taste a lass so much in his life. When she cleared her throat, his eyes slowly returned to hers.
“You should probably stop looking at me like that,” she said.
“Like what?”
“Like we’re here alone for another reason altogether.”
“Aye,” he murmured, caught by how the firelight reflecting off the shrubbery behind her seemed to magnify the pale green in her eyes. Unable to stop himself, he brushed his thumb down her delicate jawline, eager for far more contact. “May I kiss you, lass.”
