Editorial Reviews:
"It definitely touched a chord with anyone who has ever lost a loved one. The writing was strong and the dialogue -- which many people simply cannot write -- was terrific." - Christie Giraud, editor, Editingpro.com
"What a fantastic read! I couldn't put it down! I had to keep reading just to see what twist life was going throw out at Angela next!" - Chicklit Plus
"The author has a great sense of humor, even about death, but when the story called for it, she was reverent and empathetic in the way her characters handled each other." - Caroline Fardig, Bestselling Author
"This story captures how a real housewife would likely feel if her dead mother popped up and became a regular part of her life. Angela does her best to muddle through with life throwing her curveballs. There are plenty of moments of laugh-out-loud absurdity and interesting ghost trivia to entertain readers." - Sarka-Jonae Miller, Amazon Bestselling Author of Between Boyfriends

Interview with J.B. Salsbury

Do you have a favorite character? It’s a toss up between Rex and his love interest Mac, but if I had to choose I’d say Rex is my favorite. They’re both insanely strong and equally weak, which is such an unfathomable dynamic and yet somehow makes complete sense, but Rex pulls at my heart a little differently. He’s an alpha male like the rest of the guys in the series, but he’s sugary sweet and so vulnerable that it’s hard not to love him.
Have you ever had a minor character evolve into a major one? Did that change the direction of the novel at all?Yes! There’s a biker in this book named Hatchet who was supposed to make an appearance in chapter one, but as I wrote his scene he exploded onto the page and made it very clear he wasn’t going anywhere. He ends up being a huge player in the plotline and climax of the book and I’m now entertaining the idea of giving him his own book somewhere down the road.
Did you try the traditional route to publishing, i.e. querying agents/publishers?No. I’ve always been dead set on self-publishing.
How long before you got your offer of representation/your first contract? Was it for your first novel?I got my first offer from an agent about three weeks after I published my first book Fighting for Flight. More rolled in after, but I went with Trident Media Group and am still with them for foreign, audio, and movie rights.
What factors influenced your decision to self-publish your book(s)?Traditional publishing was always the direction I was headed until I hooked up with a fabulous group of writers who were working on getting traditionally published. I knew I’d never go that route, but what solidified it for me was listening to their struggle. I’m not anti-traditional publishing and I’m not saying that if the right opportunity presented itself I wouldn’t jump all over it, but spending years and years working on getting an agent and then years to get a publisher didn’t appeal to me. I suck at delayed gratification.
If you used a graphic designer/publisher’s designer, how involved were you during the creative process for your cover?Because I’m self-published I have 100% control over my cover designs. I have an incredible graphic designer, Amanda at Pixel Mischief, who tells me when my ideas are horrible and she’s an artistic and marketing genius so we brainstorm the covers together until we come up with something that we’re both in love with.
Do you belong to a critique group? Have they helped improve your writing?I do. There’s a group of six girls including myself that all write different genres of romance. Some are traditionally published and some are self-published. They’ve absolutely helped to improve my writing. I’ve learned more from them than I have anywhere else. They always let me know when I’m on to something great or when I need a swift kick in the butt. They’re honesty is what I appreciate the most. I don’t know what I’d do without them.
What is your writing process? Do you listen to music or do you like silence?First thing I always do is take off my bra! :D Comfort is key. No, but really I do try to find a comfy place to curl up with my laptop. Silence is good for certain scenes, but others I prefer to pop in my earbuds and have music playing. It just depends on what I’m writing and where my head’s at.
Do you outline your story or just go where your muse takes you?No, I don’t outline. I’ve tried and find it’s a complete waste of time because I always end up veering away from my outline. For me, writing is like sitting across from a friend and listening to their life story. I quiet myself, listen, and type what I see and hear from start to finish.
Did you hire an editor to review your manuscript before publishing?Yes! Absolutely, yes. It’s impossible for me to find my own mistakes. I’ll read the same sentence ten times and because I know what I want it to say my mind reads it that way. It’s crazy, but true. A good editor is worth his/her weight in gold. I’d never put anything out there that hasn’t had a thorough scrub down.
What advice would you give a new author just entering into the self-publishing arena?Write what you love, and never read your bad reviews.
What’s next for you? Next book with be Fighting the Fall, Eve’s book. I introduce her love interest in Fighting to Forget and I’m really excited to throw these two together on the page.

Excerpt:Girls, this has been an amazing trip. I’m kind of sad that it’s ending but I am ready to get home to see my babies.
“Well, good for you; I can’t say the same,” said Kerri.
“Listen ladies, I know that these trips are supposed to be a release to renew our minds but they do no good if you go back to home and accept the same mess you left. If you all are not happy then make some changes. Life is too short to keep living in hell. You all are beautiful, educated and capable of taking care of yourselves so why continue to take less from your husband than what your husband is supposed to do? Please don’t get me wrong, I am in no way saying that you all should head to divorce court, however, I am saying stop lying down and accepting everything. Stop accepting less than what your husband should be giving. Why should you have to find part time love in the hands of someone else? Why should you find pleasure in the bed of someone else when your husband should be fulfilling your every fantasy and you should be filling his?”
“Shelby, I hear you but you have all that at home, we don’t” Chloe said with tears streaming down her face.
“Yea, you have a husband whose eyes light up when you enter the room, one who notices your new hairdo, one who doesn’t mind shopping with you, one who holds you when you cry, sit with you when you’re sick, stay up with you when the baby is sick; you have all that,” Kerri added.
“Yes, I do but this is because I wouldn’t accept anything less. Understand, we have our ups and downs but we work through them. We are not perfect and I’d be lying if I said anything differently but he knows my faults and accepts them and I know his and accept them.” I said.

Can she trust Seth’s version of the truth and make him realize that even he has something to lose?

Excerpt:I finish and place my plate and fork on the coffee table and turn to face Joey. He’s totally into me, or seems to be, but is it enough for him to want to go for the full gusto? He leans towards me and lightly kisses me just below my right ear. The motion does absolutely nothing for me other than make me feel a little nauseous. It’s not like when Seth’s lips touch me. Thoughts of Seth make my cheeks flush. Joey must take that as a good sign because he goes for my lips next. I fight the urge to flee and try to fake enjoyment. Does it work? Can he tell?
Joey’s hands move around my neck. He pulls me closer. I pull away and look to him shyly.
“You feel it, don’t you?” he asks, a creepy smile on his face.
I smile, as if I’m embarrassed. I know my cheeks are still flushed, mostly with worry for what I’m about to do. I nod my head towards Comb-Over and Crooked Nose, who have just taken seats at the table. “Can they go somewhere?” I ask as innocently as possible. I even bat my eyelashes a couple times just for effect. Joey smiles again, this time triumphant, a knowing smile and then snaps his fingers. The men exit my apartment without saying a word

Interview with Emily Kimelman

One of Sydney Rye’s dearest friends, Hugh Defry, has been accused of brutally murdering his business partner. All the evidence points to Hugh and he has no memory of that night. But Sydney refuses to believe that Hugh is capable of such violence.
Called to investigate by Robert Maxim, a man she has, until now, considered her greatest enemy, Sydney flies to Miami searching for the real killer. Her investigation leads her from the mansions of Star Island to the depths of the Everglades. Rye’s suspicions are raised when she learns that Robert Maxim not only wants to work together, but also wants to build a friendship. She doesn’t begin to understand Maxim's motives until her former lover, Dan, arrives in Miami to tell her a devastating secret.
As more people from her past turn up, and not knowing whom to trust, Sydney begins to recognize that her personal fight for justice has become much more than she'd ever imagined. Sydney is pushed towards making a decision that will change not just her life, but possibly the future of crime fighting.
The Sydney Rye Series:UNLEASHED (A Sydney Rye Novel, #1)DEATH IN THE DARK (A Sydney Rye Novella, #2)INSATIABLE (A Sydney Rye Novel, #3)STRINGS OF GLASS (A Sydney Rye Novel, #4)THE DEVIL'S BREATH (A Sydney Rye Novel, #5)
If you used a graphic designer/publisher’s designer, how involved were you during the creative process for your cover? One of my very best friends, Autumn Whitehurst, is an incredible illustrator and I knew the moment I decided to self publish that I wanted her to make my cover. I traded her a one of a kind stacking terrarium that my husband, a third generation glassblower, made.
Do you belong to a critique group? Have they helped improve your writing?I do not belong to a critique group. In college I took some writing classes but never found the comments that helpful. Instead, I work with several people whose opinions I trust. They read all my work and let me know how to improve it.
What is your writing process? Do you listen to music or do you like silence?I listen to music most of the time that I write. It helps me slip into that other world. It also keeps people from interrupting me. I’m easily distracted so my headphones are kind of like the blinders they put on scared horses.
Do you outline your story or just go where your muse takes you?I do a combination. For about a month before I start my first draft I think about it, free write a lot, and allow my brain to run wild around the different ideas swirling in there. Then I sit down and write the first draft as quickly as possible. The shortest I’ve ever done is three weeks and I’m hoping to do that again with the draft I’m working on now. Once I’ve written the first draft I let it sit for at least two weeks, and up to several months, allowing the story to settle once again. Then when I go back in I’m usually surprised by what I find. Often there are entire scene I don’t remember writing. I’ll also think there are scenes in there that are not. So then I go and write everything the story is missing and take out anything that doesn’t make any sense. Once I’ve gotten it to a point where I don’t know exactly what’s wrong with it I turn to my friend, Mette, who will read it and help me figure out how to make it better.
Did you hire an editor to review your manuscript before publishing?Yes, I have two editors who go over my work. A copy editor I found online and my father, who was a professional editor in the newspaper business for decades. Finally, I send it out to my street team who ferret out any last little mistakes.
What have you’ve learned during your self-publishing journey?Haha, that’s a big question. I’ve learned so much. Faith is a big one. There are a lot of ups and downs in this business. You can be ranked in the top 100 one month and down in the 100,000 the next. The key is finding your audience, connecting with them, and having faith that everything is as it should be.
Also, gratitude. I’ve never felt so incredible lucky and grateful as I have in the last couple of years. The number of people who have taken an interest in my work beyond just buying the entire series astounds me. My readers are amazing, how they promote me and send me notes of encouragement. It’s enough to make you think the worlds a pretty beautiful place.
Besides Amazon, are there any other sites where your books are for sale?I sell on all the major sites. Barnes&Noble, Kobo, and iBooks.
Do you find it difficult to juggle your time between marketing your current book and writing your next book?Yes! This is such a huge thing for any writer. I feel like it’s really different parts of my brain that are needed for each task and switching modes is hard. Both are so vitally important though so it’s something I’ll continue to work on.
Besides writing, do you have any other passions? For sure. I love to ride horses, hike, swim, read (naturally :), spend time with friends and family, cook, and do Pilates. I find that the more active I am away from my writing hours the more I get done. Except sometimes when I spend the whole day at the barn instead of my desk. But I figure it’s all the way it’s supposed to be.
What’s next for you?I’m filling out this interview on a plane so the next thing I’m doing is landing in New York City. After that I’m going to keep writing Sydney Rye #6. I’ve got the first draft of a paranormal/zombie/romance thing that I wrote during Nanowrimo and plan to edit into something in May. I’m hoping to publish that by late Summer and then get Sydney Rye #6 out by Fall.

Excerpt:He was big. He towered over me by at least a foot. A piece of greasy hair fell over his eyes as he lunged for me at the same time as I grabbed for my summoning necklace—that wasn’t there. I’d left it on the bathroom counter. I wasn’t prepared as he tackled me to the ground. I landed hard, with the grease ball on top of me. My breath came whooshing out and the pressure in my chest incapacitated me. I couldn’t breathe. Panic overtook me for a moment before I realized the breath had just been knocked out of me and my respirations would return shortly. The Big Greasy Giant laying atop me didn’t help the breathing problem.
As I lay there in the dirt, a rock jutting into my back below my backpack, I worked hard to inhale. I turned my head toward Halli. I wasn’t sure what had happened to her, I just saw two of the men crouched over her limp body, blood flowing from a large cut on her forehead. I struggled to push my assailant off me. He held me down while another of the goons grabbed my arms. Grease Ball put his face right up to mine and said, “Stay put little lady . . . or don’t. ‘S always more fun if ya don’t. Don’t even think about usin’ yer voodoo on me. One little spark and yer friend over there gets her throat slit.”

Excerpt from DARKNESS FALLS by Erin Kellison
Want? There was that word again, piercing through the conversation. He wanted to put his hands low on her hips and feel her arch back into him. He could forget what haunted him with her. He knew he could. “Are you making me feel like this?” she demanded. “Why do you make me feel like this?”“Like what?” Did she feel it too, then? This atomic attraction, like molecular bonds straining to attach? But her eyes just got wider, her glare accusatory.“It’s your dream, Jordan,” he said. “I can find you within it, but I can’t make you feel anything.” Though there were some agents who had the knack. He was just a humble tracker.“Well, you don’t have to stand so close.”“Your dream,” he said again. “Push me away.”He knew she could—it was well within her ability—and soon she’d be able to do so without thinking. Her dreams were her playground. It was only deeper into the waters of sleep, Darkside, that she’d have difficulty. But she didn’t push him back.Okay, still scared. Still disoriented. He needed her trust, so he’d give her the space she requested, and he would back off.Except…his backward motion was met with stiff resistance. She wasn’t pushing him away; she was keeping him close. He could break her hold. However strong she was, he had considerably more experience. He could break the dream, but he didn’t.A smile of deep satisfaction pulled at his mouth, an entirely foreign feeling to his face, to his soul. If he begged, would she let him stay here? He’d promise to keep the darkness at bay, because it would come. It always did.“Michael?”The false name was a reminder. There are rules. There are rules. There are rules. She rose on tiptoe. His hands found her hips, knew just the angle to his grip—she didn’t protest. He pulled her flush against him, and her back arched, just slightly, exactly as he’d hoped it would, her ass pressing—good God—into his groin.Warmth coursed through his gut and spread out to his limbs and mind. It was part lust—no helping that—and part peace. It was a full-body sensation, burning out pain and loneliness, leaving only this feeling of want and connection. She tilted her face back. All her little adjustments meant yes, yes, and yes.At the moment, hers was the only permission that mattered. So he kissed her.

Excerpt:My body shivered with unease as I scooted back into my chair. My unease heightened when my body instantly went on high alert like a cornered animal. I watched with narrowed eyes as the door slammed open. Storm and Knox burst in, followed by four men. My unease increased tenfold when my eyes were drawn to the only man on Earth who simultaneously made my sex clench with lust and stomach roll with hatred—Ryker Alfero. Why in the hell was he here? His sea-green eyes darted to the empty bottle of tequila sitting in front of me. He snorted with distaste. “Oh, there she is, my beautiful drunk.” He held up two fingers. “How many fingers am I holding up?” he asked mockingly.I gave him the middle finger. “One—now fuck off!”Today, I refused to let him ruffle my feathers like he did at his gala the other night. This is Business Light, hyper-composed Light, fashionable, elegant, in-charge Light. Today, I deliberately chose to dress the part by wearing my best designer handiwork, a dainty grey petal-collar blouse, five-inch black studded heels, and black pants. “Baby, your dirty little mouth is making me hot,” he growled. He sauntered toward me with fire in his eyes. I refused to get up. His eyes locked on me, ashe trapped me against the chair with his beefy arms. His lips grazed the shell of my ear when he grumbled, “I would love to see what else your dirty little mouth can do.” With those few words, my body shivered as a surge of energy zipped into my body, unlocking something I didn’t understand. For years she chose the safe option, but from now on she’s going to live a little, stretch her wings…be a little daring. Reid has wanted Tara from the moment he met her, but she’s always been out of bounds. Not only is she his patrol partner at the Bozeman PD, she’s also engaged. But then her relationship blows up, and Reid finds himself battling his own instinct to stake his claim with the finest, hottest woman he’s ever known.
Even if anything did happen between them, it would only ever be temporary - Reid’s a born wanderer, while Tara’s roots run deep in Marietta. So even if things are good between them, it seems their romance is destined to be short and sweet...
Tara’s twin sister, Scarlett, also has a Spring Brides story: look out for Second Chance Bride by Trish Morey. Details from montanabornbooks.com

Now enjoy an excerpt:
Reid Dalton pumped gas into his GMC pickup, one ear tuned to the conversation going on between his friends inside the truck. Grant was giving Brett a hard time for missing an easy layup during the basketball game they’d just finished, and Brett was serving it straight back at him with both barrels.
Reid grinned to himself, feeling pleasantly tired after an hour of charging up and down the court, trouncing the Bozeman Fire Department team. The informal competition between the police department and the firefighters had become a regular thing over the past few months. Reid wasn’t sure which part of their weekly matchups he enjoyed the most—the rapid-fire pace of the game itself, or the inevitable shit giving and taking that occurred afterward.
“You want to know my opinion?” he asked as the pump clicked off, signaling the tank was full.
“Not particularly,” Brett said, which earned him a guffaw from Grant.
“You both need to lift your games. Drink less beer, run a few more miles,” Reid said.
Grant made a rude noise, while Brett gave him a one-fingered salute. Reid was still laughing as he headed into the gas station to pay the cashier.
Then he saw the couple exiting the motel next door to the Gas-And-Go Mart and his step faltered.
The girl he didn’t recognize, but she was young and blonde and clinging to her man as though her very life depended on it. Reid watched as Simon Garfield said something before kissing her in a way that left no doubt whatsoever as to the nature of their relationship.
Damn.
Just... damn.
Tara would be devastated.
For a moment he was frozen as he absorbed all the implications of what he’d just witnessed. Tara had been planning the wedding for the past few months and as her patrol partner, there was precious little Reid wasn’t privy to. Like the fact that Tara and Simon planned on having the reception at Le Petit Chateau in Bozeman, and that Tara was limiting her attendants to just her twin, Scarlett, and that today she had an appointment at Marietta’s one and only bridal salon to pick out her wedding dress...
Belatedly he glanced back at the car, hoping the other guys hadn’t seen, but they were both frowning, staring out the windshield at the sordid little drama unfolding in the parking lot next door. There wasn’t a doubt in Reid’s mind that they recognized Tara’s fiancé. They’d all attended the engagement party Tara and Simon held back in February.
Reid mouthed a four-letter word.
What a nightmare.
