The Truth is a Reading In The Sydney Opera House
If you're wondering what the reading at the Sydney Opera House of "The Truth Is A Cave In The Black Mountains", with the FourPlay String Quartet, and Eddie Campbell art, was actually like, here's an "Edited Highlights". Five minutes out of 90 minutes (the story was followed by an interview by Eddie and "In Relieg Oran"), courtesy of the Sydney Morning Herald.

The Sydney Signing Situation
Everything is moving along towards tomorrow night's Sydney Opera House gig. There were about 100 seats (out of about 2000) left the last time I checked, and if you're thinking of coming tomorrow night, you should grab them fast.

The Opera House had wanted a signing, but hadn't really thought through the logistics of 2000 people, or if even only half of them wanted something signed, or the keeping on of staff, or keeping spac...

Australia and the Magic Quiff
Right. Off to Australia.
If you are on a plane to Australia today and you hear the sound of weeping coming from a nearby seat, it will be me, fighting to lose ten pages from a pretty tight script. (I bet I will lose two or three pages easily. Then the pain will start.)
I leave you with this remarkably photoshopped Russian magazine cover. (You can see the line on the left where my real hair stops and an enlarged version begins.)
What puzzles me mostly is, my hair is weird enough...

Cutting stuff, watching parking meters, getting graphic in Sydney
As of 2:30 this morning I was certain I'd be blogging again today. I'd just sent off the finished draft of the Doctor Who script, and I was done.
Then I got up somewhat later this morning, and read an email from my script editor at the BBC a) giving me a thumbs up for all the new stuff [which I wrote for practical and budget reasons, but will, I think, actually be much cooler than the stuff it replaced:] and b) having formatted everything correctly according to BBC rules, letting...

Normal Service Will Be Resumed As Soon As Possible
A few years ago, the BBC World Service did an adaptation of my novel Anansi Boys. I'm a big fan of radio drama, and a huge admirer of the director who did it, but things went a bit wrong. The biggest thing that went wrong went wrong right at the beginning, when the World Service, coping as best they could with budget cutbacks and less broadcasting time for drama, decided it would have to be an hour-long adaptation. And bad things happen when novels get cut down to an hour. So d...

The Locus Awards were given out this weekend. They're the SF/Fantasy awards with the largest voting base, the readership of Locus, the monthly news magazine of the field:
http://www.locusmag.com/News/2010/04/locus-awards-finalists.html is the complete list of winners and nominees. I was surprised and thrilled to discover that my short story from SONGS OF THE DYING EARTH won best short story.
This is what I asked Gardner Dozois to read out at the awards ceremony.

Sire! I have News!
Well, I'm not quite at the point where I'm ready to start blogging again. But it's now in sight.
And this is a quick sort of temporary post, for those of you convinced you'll never see me again, to assure you that I'll be back.
The biggest news right now is that The Graveyard Book just won the Carnegie Medal, the leading UK award for childrens' fiction. (More background athttp://www.schoollibraryjournal.com/slj/home/885511-312/gaimans_the_graveyard_book_does.html.csp)

this is the way "Cabal Fortnight" ends...
posted by Dan GuyWeb goblin here, one last time for the final post of what I like to think of as "Cabal: Year One", marking an appropriate completion to "Cabal Fortnight". It's been fun, as always. See you around on LJ and FB!
Cabal turns the reins -er- leash of the blog back over to Mr. G.

I've begun reminiscing events before they even occur. I'm reminiscing this right now.
posted by Dan GuyWelcome to the penultimate post in "Cabal Week". I'm your host, the web goblin. (You may wonder why I keep identifying myself. It's because I'm still getting comments on the LJ feed, on Facebook, and on formspring from people who seem to believe that these introductions are written by Mr. G and that the below reprinted posts are current. Thank you all for the advice on how to help Cabal and Fred get along, but that issue is ancient history now.)

I'm sweet and I'm cuddly. (I'm gonna kill Scully!)
posted by Dan GuyYour humble web goblin here again. We're quickly nearing the end of "Cabal Fortnight".
I wish I had something fun or witty to say here, but my day job is totally sucking my brain dry today. I had planned to go to Amanda's ninja gig in Bethesda after work tonight but, even assuming I could leave on time, I think I'm going to be too drained. *le sigh*
That said, there's a chance that I'll get a second wind and being feeling witty later, so if anyone wants to ask me a question ...
