BOOKLIST STARRED REVIEW

After months of waiting, the first review of QUARANTINE: THE SAINTS is in! And it's a good one. Scratch that -- a great one. Booklist gave us a starred review! Reading it the first time was absolutely surreal, the second time was a joy, and the third through fiftieth... well, let's just say, it's become a reliable way to get pumped as we continue writing Book 3. Here's the Booklist link for the full review with plot details, but here are some spoiler-free highlights:

QUARANTINE: THE SAINTS

The craziest thing about 2012’s rash of teens-in-quarantine books was that all of them were good. But as enjoyable as were Emmy Laybourne’s Monument 14 and Dayna Lorentz’s No Safety in Numbers, it was Thomas’ Quarantine: The Loners that blew the doors off the joint with a dirty bomb of sex and violence. . . . With its morally dubious characters, charged sexual content, and double-take violence, this might be the darkest series going. . . . Here’s our demand: deliver the conclusion yesterday.

WHAT'S UP?

Feeling random. Hence, the pic of Future Bill & Ted. But maybe it ties in considering there's cool things ahead. Quarantine: The Saints drops in a little over two months, and we've been getting some great feedback from friends and industry folk. But what we're most excited about is what the response from super-fans of the first will be. Our wait's nearly over.

We've also been finishing up the screenplay for the Quarantine: The Loners movie. You can never predict how things will go in the movie-making process, but at the very least we're starting strong. It's one action-packed script, and hell of a lot of fun. Cross your fingers it gets made, and we'll be sure to fill you in on any news when we have it.

In the meantime, we're underway with Book 3 right now. First drafts can be daunting, but they can also be the most fun part of the writing process. Nothing ahead but blank pages. There's freedom in that. And we're enjoying it.

More soon!

THEM'S FIGHTING WORDS

Check it out! Daniel Kraus interviewed us for Hostile Questions. Lots of things were taken the wrong way, and it got ugly at times, but hopefully we're all still on speaking terms.

THANK YOU

When we were writing Quarantine: The Loners, we'd occasionally reflect on what we were doing and say: "What if this actually works? What if people actually read it and they like it? Or even better... what if they really get it and they love it?"

It seemed unfathomable then. It was only a dream, that our story could click so perfectly with someone out there. But this year, it became a dream come true.

To everyone that read our book and spread the good word to a friend or posted a supportive review or emailed us to say how much you enjoyed reading it, we'd like to offer our most heartfelt thanks.

You made what we do worthwhile.

THE YEAR OF THE SEQUEL

If you reached the end of The Loners and thought... you bastards!!! I gotta wait until Summer of 2013 until I find out what happens next? We've got news for you.

Book 2 is finished, at long last. We handed in the final draft just before the holidays. Now, there's only six months to go until you get to revisit McKinley High. Put it in your calendars -- July 9th -- QUARANTINED.

Whoo! It's hard to believe.

If you were in pain because you had to wait so long to read Book 2, we felt it ten-fold because we had to go on and write it. Book 1, The Loners, was a big accomplishment for us -- our first novel. The proposition of creating a worthy follow-up was not one we took lightly. There were things we knew would happen in Book 2, but a lot more things we didn't know. And so, the process of writing our first-ever sequel made 2012 a doozy of a year. We had frequent spells of angst, misery and hopelessness (maybe someday we'll disclose the details), but we finally reached the finish line, and what we've got... is a doozy of a book.

If you were a fan of the gangs and the madness and the twists and turns of The Loners, we've got even more coming your way in Book 2. Check in with us here in the coming months for a title reveal and a sneak peak at the cover, and maybe even a chance to win an ARC copy of the book.

Until then, stay safe.
