“A Church for Exiles”

This article — written by a Christian in the Reformed tradition — makes an interesting case for the claim that Reformed Christianity is best suited for disciples of Jesus living in a rapidly emerging post-Christian America.   As I read it, I was thinking to myself of ways in which what the author [Read More...]

Bart Sibrel vs. Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin

Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin, now 84, is a retired NASA astronaut who, as part of the Apollo 11 mission, became the second man to walk on the surface of the moon.   At least, that’s what mainstream thinkers and historians believe.   Bart Sibrel, however, is no conventional mind.  A taxi driver and conspiracy [Read More...]

“Henry IV Part One”

My wife and I enjoyed a first-rate performance of Shakespeare’s Henry IV Part One tonight.  Really, a very fine production.   I was saddened and shocked, though, to notice a fairly large number of empty seats — more than we’ve ever seen in the Adams Shakespearean Theater here. People are missing out on a [Read More...]

A quick report from Cedar City

We saw Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods this afternoon, and are just about to head off to see Shakespeare’s Henry IV, Part One.  (At least I think that’s what we’re seeing.)   The Utah Shakespeare Festival here is a state and regional treasure.   Posted from Cedar City, Utah

A brief cartoon history of the Holy Land

A humorous and slightly gruesome but — alas! — fairly accurate capsule summary of thousands of years of history in Palestine:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-evIy...   Brought to my attention over dinner last night with LDS academic friends whom we’ve known since Cairo in 1978.

“Truly He is Risen,” at Education Week

I’ve gotten in a few minutes of work, today, on my lectures for BYU Education Week, which, for me, begin next Tuesday afternoon.   If I can get this material organized, the presentations may be fairly good.  If I can’t, they’ll just be an embarrassingly disastrous fiasco.   Daniel C.
