The price of higher education continues to soar. Is the product worth the cost?

“Shortly after leaving office in 2011, Jennifer Granholm, the former governor of Michigan, joined the faculty at the University of California, Berkeley, her alma mater.  This semester, she’s leading a seminar on ‘creating jobs through better government policies for innovation and education.’  It’s a curious teaching assignment when you consider that Michigan lost [Read More...]

The most popular male name in Norway?

I’m told that the currently most common masculine name in Norway isn’t Erik, or Bjørn, or Per, or Knut.   It’s Muhammad.   Europe is changing, no?

“Immortality”

Looking for a quotation the other day, I re-read this old conference talk and was very impressed by it:   http://scriptures.byu.edu/gettalk.php...   And I think I’ll add this, from G. Homer Durham’s biography of N. Eldon Tanner, who served with Hugh B. Brown in the First Presidency of the Church:   “Hugh B. [Read More...]

1 Nephi 11

We come, now, to a favorite chapter of mine in the Book of Mormon, 1 Nephi 11.   And I’m simply going to mention, in this connection, one of my very favorite articles among the various Mormon-related things that I’ve written and published.   Here it is in its abbreviated form:   http://publications.maxwellinstitute.... “Muslim America: Islamic, yet integrated”

The 6 September 2014 issue of The Economist includes an interesting and instructive article on why Muslims are so much better integrated into the life of the United States than they are in Europe:   http://www.economist.com/news/united-...

“Axes Mundi: Ritual Complexes in Mesoamerica and the Book of Mormon”

Today marks the 111th consecutive week of publication by the certainly-dying but curiously never-actually-dead Interpreter: A Journal of Mormon Scripture:   http://www.mormoninterpreter.com/axes...   I’m deeply grateful to all those out there who have contributed time, effort, and money to make The Interpreter Foundation an incredibly productive success.  And there’s much more on the [Read More...]

Capitalist Utopia

For a person with my economic-libertarian inclinations, this sounds like an interesting book.
