Please don’t forget about ISIS

There is a horrific evil loose in the world, and it’s metastasizing rapidly:   64 soldiers killed in ISIS attack on Egyptian Army’s Sinai checkpoints   I fear that we may be growing accustomed to such reports, but we shouldn’t be:   74 children executed for ‘crimes’ that include failure to fast   [Read More...]

Three from Dr. Hamblin

Professor Jenkins may now actually have retired from the competition, as he earlier said that he was doing.  Or not.  I have no idea.  Anyway, Professor Hamblin continues to post on behalf of truth and light:   Hamblin 20:  Centrality of Hermeneutics   Hamblin 21:  Maya King-Lists   Hamblin 22:  Comments from [Read More...]

The Hamblin/Jenkins rumble continues

Meet the world’s first married lesbian threesome!

It’s not the first “throuple.”   I know of this one in Thailand, for example.   But it’s an exciting step for three brave pioneers!   http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/art...   And they’re expecting!   They hope, eventually, to acquire one baby for each of them.

“Report: ISIS fighter who enjoyed killing Christians wants to follow Jesus after dream of man in white who told him ‘You are killing my people’”

Hmmm.  I wonder if this is true:   http://www.christianpost.com/news/rep...   If so, it’s extremely interesting.   (Thanks to Darren Zechiel for calling this to my notice.)

The Two Ways

Reading over at the valuable Ether’s Cave blog run by my friend and former Maxwell Institute colleague Matt Roper, along with my friend and former Maxwell Institute colleague John Gee, I saw this.  I like it so much that I’m altogether stealing it.  I hope that Matt won’t be too angry:   “Without anything [Read More...]

Today, 171 years ago

On 27 June 1844, in Carthage, Illinois, the Prophet Joseph Smith was murdered by an anti-Mormon mob along with his brother, Hyrum Smith, patriarch to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  John Taylor, later to become third president of the Church, was grievously wounded in the same attack.   The official [Read More...]

On science and peer review

Steve Smoot kindly sent me this note:   Thought you’d appreciate this.   http://www.vox.com/2015/5/13/8591837/...   That science can fail, however, shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. It’s a human construct, after all. And if we simply accepted that science often works imperfectly, we’d be better off. We’d stop considering science a collection [Read More...]
