Can you spare a few dollars? It needn’t be much, if enough people kick in.

I received a note a few days ago from my friend Dr. Ugo Perego, in Rome.  I’m sharing a portion of it here:   I would like to make you aware of a couple of things pertaining to a project I have been involved since 1999.    As many of you already know, [Read More...]

New Testament 216

Luke 14:15-24 Compare Matthew 22:1-14   When I hear occasional reports of multigenerational members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints abandoning their covenants, cutting themselves off from the legacy of their ancestors, and rejecting their one-time faith, I’m afraid that I’m reminded of this parable.

“Maya shrine reveals arrival of ‘New World Order’”

This is a fascinating find.   And one of the dates involved is of particular interest, from my point of view:   http://news.nationalgeographic.com/20...   Thanks to Zander Sturgill for bringing the article to my notice.   Posted from Logan, Utah

A moving video of African pioneers

In honor of the Pioneer Day weekend, I post, yet again, a link to one of my favorite online videos.  It’s less than six minutes long, showing the determination of Latter-day Saints in Cameroon to make their way to the then newly-dedicated Aba Nigeria Temple:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rf8xo...   Every time I watch it, [Read More...]

“Chimayó: The ‘Lourdes of America’”

The most recent Hamblin/Peterson Deseret News column is up:   http://www.deseretnews.com/article/86...   Unfortunately, it’s incorrectly attributed to me alone, and identified as one of the “Defending the Faith” series — which is mine alone, and which appears weekly, on Thursdays.   I’ll try to get that corrected.   Posted from Logan, Utah   [Read More...]

What is love?

New Testament 215

Luke 14:7-14 Compare Matthew 23:12; Luke 18:14; John 5:29   This has always been among my favorite New Testament passages.  Practical applications are available pretty much every day of the week.   Posted from Logan, Utah

“The spiritual side effects of viewing Earth from outer space”

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/86...   Several prophets appear to have been given some such experience by the Lord, as well.  Probably for similar spiritual reasons:   And it came to pass that Moses looked, and beheld the world upon which he was created; and Moses beheld the world and the ends thereof, and all the children of men which are, [Read More...]

“‘The learned shall not read them’ (2 Nephi 27:20)”

My friend and former Maxwell Institute colleague Matt Roper has posted a note that’s especially interesting to me in the light of certain recent discussions about the historicity of the Book of Mormon:   http://etherscave.blogspot.com/2015/0...   Posted from Logan, Utah
