The Oprah effect or lack there of...

I'm just wondering out loud here, but has any one checked to see if after Oprah waves her magic wand and blesses a book do the publishers then scramble to acquire and publish five-hundred books that smell, read, and feel like the blessed one?

How did I become the wicked witch of the west?

As the wicked witch of the west once cried:

"Aaaah, you cursed brat! Look what you have done! I'm melting...melting...melting...!"

I am a member of a growing band of African-American writers of literary fiction who are slowly disappearing. And not because we are lacking in talent and credentials; in fact we have already published a number of books with major publishing houses and have been reviewed by national newspapers and well-respected literary journals, and have received critical acclaim and

Pub Dates still brings butterflies...

I remember all of the excitement that swirled around and inside of me as I approached the pub date of my first novel SUGAR back in 2000.On that cold January day I rushed down to the Barnes & Noble bookstore and stood staring and grinning like a fool at the ten hardcover editions of SUGAR that graced the bookshelf.

I think know I love my family!

I am so full that I'm bursting! Nah, not from food - from love!
Last week I clocked over 2000 miles on my li'l beemer traveling from New York to Detroit to Toronto, back to Detroit and finally home to New York.

My event at the Southfield Library was wonderful! I had a good crowd and it was nice to see a familiar face in the audience - Jeanette thanks for coming out and supporting me....again!)

Run Tell That......

I've just spent the last two weeks copy-editing (to the best of my ability and that's not saying much) this damn manuscript.
