Do Not Despair
Do Not Despair, unhappy child of night !Sink not in the abyss,Look upward, reach out toward the light,And God will touch your hand with His.
Lift your heart upon the wings of prayer,Watch it soar to the holy placeWhere peace, serenity are everywhere, And dwell within His loving grace.

World Communion Sunday
World Communion Sunday: A day to proclaim a new covenant, a new unity.
“Take and drink,” Jesus said, “this cup is thenew covenant in my blood…” (Luke 22:20) As church goers around the world celebrate World Communion Sunday there is one thing in particular I would like people to remember―all of us consider what we are doing as being important. And it is important. It is the new covenant of Christ our Lord we are...

Unsanctioned Exorcism
“Teacher,” John said, “we saw a man driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because he was not one of us.” (see Mark 9:38-41). The Greek here for “were stopping him” can also be translated “hindering him" or “preventing him". Finally they had seen and heard enough. So they decide to take this matter straight to the top of the corporate ladder, to the big boss man in charge. They were confident...

Whoever Welcomes
Whoever welcomes one of these children in my name, welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me, does not welcome me, but the one who sent me. (see Mark 9:30-37) Jesus, here, is saying that life in the kingdom of God is not about being the greatest, the first, or the even best―but about seeing each and every person as being someone of importance.

Disciples Not Washing Hands
Some Pharisee’s come to check Jesus out―to make sure he is doing what he is supposed to be doing (following all of the Old Testament rules and regulations). They want to make sure he is up to snuff. And, of course, he isn’t. They watch very carefully the activities of the disciples. They notice that these disciples of his are not washing their hands before eating. A smile comes across my face as I think about how this sounds,...

"Eat my flesh and drink my blood."
While teaching in the synagogue (see John 6:51-58) Jesus gave a shocker of a sermon. Eat my flesh and drink my blood, he said. The very idea of drinking any blood, let alone human blood, was repugnant to the religious leaders—the law forbid it. The Jewish audience was mad, they had heard enough, they were especially upset about the implications of what Jesus was saying. In the ritual purity laws established in Leviticus, contact with some sources of uncleanness is prohibited, and w...
