Sony A9 Crash Course Production Underway!

UPDATE: The A9 Course is progressing, I think we are looking at mid September release. It will be my best camera course of all time. :)

If you follow any kind of photography news you have heard about the Sony A9 and its unique pass through sensor, high speed burst and awesome focusing systems. We received our A9 yesterday and have begun production on the crash course, as well as preliminary testing for its Epic Shootout against at least one, and possibly 2 flagship model cameras from the two largest camera manufacturers. (Wow...what an Epic Shootout that would be!). This will amount to about 6-8 weeks of total work, but expect the Crash Course to be finished in about 3-4 weeks.

I am often asked why I make training courses for higher end cameras when "beginners" would never buy such a high end model. What I have learned is that camera owners will typically purchase the best camera they can afford, regardless of their background. In some cases it might be a $400 A6000, or in other cases a $4500 A9, and for the many, many first time camera owners who decide to go with a higher end model, there aren't many good training videos on them, so this is my reasoning.

If you are interested in being notified when the Sony A9 Crash Course Tutorial Training Video is ready, please leave your name and email in the comments below and we will contact you as soon as it is available.

This is the cover I decided to go with. I love sunsets, and took this one near my home.

When @lensprotogo sends you the two new Sony FE...

When @lensprotogo sends you the two new Sony FE Wides to test you have to smile! New black maven strap in the house! * *
I have named my current Sony FF lineup "Lightning" (The A9) & "Thunder" (The A7rii). Both lenses have strengths and weaknesses I'll point out in my review coming soon. In other news, I just sold my last Canon FF. I guess this means I'm a Sony shooter now. I still have hope for them, but they need to step up there game! #a9 #a7rii #sony #sonya9 #sonya7rii #lensprotogo #mavenstrap

Peta Pixel Photography Podcast #206 - Introduced by Michael The Maven

How cool & fun was it for me to open the Peta Pixel Photography Podcast with Sharky James Episode #206? Just wow. I definitely did not expect the very generous words from Sharky, but I sure did appreciate it a lot!

If you guys haven't heard of the Peta Pixel Photography Podcast, I would definitely and strongly recommend subscribing. While many of us get our photography information from youtube, not all of us have the time or ability to sit down and watch a video, and this is where podcasting comes in so handy, you can listen from just about anywhere, doing almost anything, like driving. (Thats when I listen to podcasts). Sharky does a great job of keeping us up to date with everything going on in the industry, so if you are into photography, his podcast is among the very best!

Many of you have asked why my podcast is not more photography centric, and the truth of the matter is, I need a consistent, creative outlet that is not photography centric lol. Seriously, as much as I love photography, I need something to unplug from it, and one of my favorite topics is efficiency. The Maven Nation podcast doesn't feel like work...it feels like Im sharing ideas with friends and it fills a need for me. So I hope that answers it? :)

In any event, thank you again to Sharky for the opportunity! I was thrilled!

Be sure to check out & subscribe to: Peta Pixel Podcast With Sharky James

Wind River

I wanted to see this film because I worked with one of the actors in a movie I was producer on (Love Everlasting). Austin Grant, played Bo Chinsley in ur film, in Wind River, he didn't have any speaking lines but fun to see him in there none the less as one of the deputies.

Wind River was actually pretty good. A definite rental, but much better than most of what has been coming out recently. It had vibes of Silence of The Lambs, Fargo and another film I can't put my finger on...something to do with Snipers.

There were some problems with the Cinematography (I can't stand the shaky cam) and editing (quite slow at parts), but striking and carried its message.

Its one of the better films in theaters this weekend.
