Dogma Debated: A Conversation with David C. Smalley

Yesterday, I appeared on the David C. Smalley Podcast (formerly known as “Dogma Debate”). The conversation goes for 2.5 hours (!) and the first hour and a bit is available to everyone. The longer version is available to Patreon supporters.

In the first part of the conversation, we talked about rationality, plausibility frameworks, and the evidence for the resurrection of Jesus. At one point, Smalley cited David Fitzgerald (a well-known Jesus mythicist atheist activist). And he really didn’t like it when I then said that Fitzgerald is an atheist’s equivalent of Ken Ham.

In the second part of the conversation, we shifted to some of the topics in my new book Conversations with My Inner Atheist. You can check out the podcast on your favorite streaming platform (e.g. Spotify) or by clicking here.

The First Amazon.com Review of My New Book. And It’s a Good One!

The first Amazon.com review is always an important moment for an author, all the more so when the reviewer really liked the book and when he/she tracked with the author. This is my important moment for Conversations with My Inner Atheist. It’s a very fine review. Read it here.

An Atheist Review of Conversations with My Inner Atheist

The first review for Conversations with My Inner Atheist is out. Counter Apologist got a copy yesterday and reviewed it this morning. Wowsers, that’s fast. It’s also a very positive review. This is important because the purpose of the book is to steelman objections to my beliefs, so the fact that my exercise passed muster with an atheist that I respect means a lot.

Here are a couple of choice excerpts from the review:

“I read the book in a few short hours and it was engaging. Randal’s day job is a seminary professor and the book showcases his teaching bonafides as he illustrates complex philosophical and theological topics with easy to understand stories, examples, and plain good writing.”

“Inevitably there will be Christians who doubt that will remain in the faith and if that’s going to happen I’d prefer it was done with the well reasoned and honest arguments Randal presents instead of the false confidence pop-apologetics all too often instills in its readers.  At least those Christians will appreciate the true nature of the debate being had.”

Oh yeah, and I can’t forget this:

“go buy a copy, for god’s sake!”

I could not agree more…
