Scream Magazine Issue 27
The new issue of SCREAM is out, and it’s another belter. Seriously… where else could you get interviews with Robert Englund, REC co-director and writer Jaume Balaguero, HORNS director Alexandre Aja, Rob Zombie, and Linda Hayden – star of the classic BLOOD ON SATAN’S CLAW, all in one place?
Seriously, as I say every issue, SCREAM is a great mag – recommended reading for the discerning horror fan.
Visit www.screamhorrormag.com, or pick up a copy from You can get hold of a copy from any branch of HMV, Forbidden Planet, or from any of the newsagents listed here. SCREAM is also now available digitally with the launch of the cunningly titled iSCREAM!.

STRANGERS – a dark and dirty horror novel
I wanted to tell you a bit more about STRANGERS (which is now open for pre-orders – place your order through Infected Books and you’ll get to read the ebook TODAY!). In the blurb it’s described as a ‘dark and dirty horror novel’, and I think that’s pretty apt.
The novel is a departure from the kind of books I usually write. I’d been toying with the idea of a spin on a vampire novel for a while, and though there are no vampires in STRANGERS, there are some similar themes. You might remember me getting to meet a literary hero of mine, James Herbert, a couple of years ago. Following Jim’s untimely passing last year, I binge read several of his novels, and it struck me that it would be good fun to try and write the kind of gory, frightening, self-contained horror novel he was so brilliant at. STRANGERS is the result. It’s about our fear of the unknown, and how people are quick to point the finger in order to deflect the heat from ourselves. It’s also a book about confronting personal demons, and that’s something I’m going to talk more about in a forthcoming blog post.
Until then, don’t forget you can pre-order the book from Infected Books and read STRANGERS today!
A spate of brutal murders occur in and around the small town of Thussock. The bodies of the dead – savagely mutilated, unspeakably defiled – are piling up with terrifying speed. There are no apparent motives and no obvious connections between the victims, but the killings only began when Scott Griffiths and his family arrived in Thussock…

Events round-up
I’ve had the pleasure of taking part in a couple of excellent events over the last few weeks (and my final appearance of the year is coming up this Saturday…). First was TALES AND TASTES 2 at the Delish Deli and Kitchen in Rugby on Halloween. It was a brilliant night, where I found myself sandwiched between SARAH PINBOROUGH and JOSEPH D’LACEY. A genuinely warm and appreciative crowd, generous and accommodating hosts, great food and drink… what more could we ask for? Click the link below for a few pictures.
Last Saturday saw the third annual HORROR IN THE EAST convention in Lowestoft, the UK’s most easterly town, and the setting for the final book in the HATER series, THEM OR US. It’s always a great event, but it’s a real shame it never seems to draw the crowds it should. Honestly, folks don’t know what they’re missing. I can show you, actually – visit the Videos page on this site to watch me, Adam Millard, Iain McKinnon and others on the panels from both this year’s event and the 2013 con.
Thanks as always to the organisers (Gary and Claire at Delish, Emma and Jo in Lowestoft), and to all those folks who came out to support the events. Hopefully I’ll see some of you this weekend at Zombie Ed’s annual celebration of all things zombie – the DAY OF THE UNDEAD in Leicester.

Recommended reading – Sean Page’s ALIEN INVASION HANDBOOK
Stuck for Christmas ideas this year? Want to get that certain someone a present that a). they’ll like, b). will keep them occupied for hours and c). might just save their life? Look no further.
My good friend SEAN PAGE has released a follow up to last year’s smash hit ZOMBIE SURVIVAL HAYNES MANUAL. This year he’s turned his attention to the ever-present threat of ALIEN INVASION. As always, Sean’s take on things is frighteningly comprehensive, and incredibly funny. Looking for an authoritative history of alien contact? It’s here. Want to know how to prep yourself for the aliens’ arrival? Sean’s your man. First-contact protocols, alien combat techniques, space defences… this book covers everything.
You can get hold of a copy now from Amazon, The Book Depository, Hive, Indiebound, Waterstones, WHSmith and many other retailers.
And I don’t know if Sean was trying to tell me something or if this really was a genuine mix-up by the good folk at Haynes, but the Alien Invasion manual wasn’t the first book they sent me…

Zombie Ed’s Day of the Undead 2014
My final event for 2014 will be a return to Leicester for Zombie Ed’s annual DAY OF THE UNDEAD. This is a day no self-respecting zombie fan should miss: 12 hours of zombie movies, alongside a whole host of authors, special effects artists, cosplayers, film-makers and traders. The full movie line-up for this year is still to be confirmed, but Bombshell Bloodbath, Go Goa Gone, and I Survived A Zombie Holocaust have already been announced.
The event takes place at the Phoenix Arts Centre, Leicester, on 15 November. Ticket details and further information is available from this site.
If you’ve not come across festival organiser Zombie Ed before, where have you been? He’s a legend in zombie circles, and is the brains behind THE ZOMBIE TIMES the world’s only zombie newspaper (which gets delivered free to more than 14,000 folks each month – subscribe here). He’s a great guy, and it’s worth a trip to Leicester just for the experience of meeting him.
I’m looking forward to catching up with the regulars and hopefully seeing a few new faces in Leicester next month.

Last of the Living Competition Winner

Aaron Rayner and I pictured at (I think) the AUTUMN movie premier at the first Grimmfest, October 2009
I’m very pleased to announce that the winner of the LAST OF THE LIVING competition is the one and only Aaron Rayner. Aaron’s name was selected randomly from all the folks who’d ordered the new book over the last few weeks. Thanks to everyone who did.
I’m really pleased that Aaron won. Some of you will recognise the name (he’s one of Moody’s Survivors). He’s also one of the most vocal supporters of my work and has attended events in places as far apart as Manchester, Lowestoft, Leicester and London over the years. He’s a good man with a lovely family. Congratulations, Aaron, and thanks!
You can still order signed copies of LAST OF THE LIVING (though initial stocks are running frighteningly low). Head over to www.infectedbooks.co.uk to find out more.

Reflections on The Fang
Cast your minds back to the beginning of September when I talked about THE BLACK FANG BETRAYAL, a collaborative novel produced by James Thorn and written by Thorn, TW Brown, Michaelbrent Collings, Mainak Dhar, J.C. Eggleton, Glynn James, Stephen Knight, T.W. Piperbrook, J.R. Rain, and myself. Full details can be found at this link.
Working on the book was an unusual experience to say the least, and I recently wrote a guest post about it for Thorn’s blog. You can read the piece here.
I hope you’ve enjoyed THE BLACK FANG BETRAYAL if you’ve read it. It seems to have really gone down well with a lot of people around the world. It was a unique concept which I really enjoyed being a part of. Thanks again to James and the other writers involved.
