Did You Know
Did you know, John Adams was a one term president and basically lost the election because he was against war with France? Who'd a thought, huh. Once out of office, he said he should have become a shoemaker.

Release Day: GWEN SLADE, BOUNTY HUNTER

Today is release day for GWEN SLADE, BOUNTY HUNTER
A Cowboy Factoid
The first and foremost necessity, for anyone who roamed the Old West, was a horse. For the most part they rode quarter horses, known for their sturdiness and speed. Like the cowboy they had to be tough and survive on whatever was available, since most cowboys didn’t carry grain for their mounts. Many cowboys also preferred dark horses to piebalds and other horses favored by Native Americans, considering them better workers. If something happened to a cowboy’s horse when he wasn't near a town, his chances of survival were thin. Hence the reason, horse thieves were hung.

Bounty hunter Gwen Slade always gets her man. Until she meets charming outlaw Jordie Kidd.
After Jordie saves her family, she finds she can’t in good conscience turn him in, even if he is worth a thousand dollars dead or alive. Instead, she sets her sights on the meanest, most-wanted gang in Kansas. Gwen always works alone until she goes after the gang then finds herself partnering with an unlikely source.
This time around, not only her life, but her heart is on the line.
Excerpt:
“Don’t think because I’m a woman, I won’t shoot you.”
Legs splayed, Gwen Slade aimed her short-barreled rifle. Sunlight glinted on the barrel and gave the Kansas sandstone canyon an illusion of warmth. A stiff breeze loosened the pigtail hanging down her back and whipped stray strands of hair around her face. She ignored the bite of the wind, focused on the hombre in front of her.
“Now honey,” Rotten Don Tucker, wanted for stagecoach robbing, moved toward her. “You better give me that thing before it goes off.”
She spun her rifle and shot his hat right off his head. “The next one will be a few inches lower.”
He stopped, a scowl on his ugly, pockmarked face then sneered. “You’re that woman bounty hunter.”
“My, aren’t you the smart one.”
“No woman’s taking me in.” His hand reached for his gun.
Swift as lightning she lowered the barrel and pulled the trigger.
He dropped his hand to his thigh as he stumbled, his leg crumpling, his expression incredulous. “You shot me.”
She shook her head. “You’re lucky I didn’t kill you. The wanted poster says dead or alive. Now throw me your gun with your left hand or this time I will put a bullet in your head.”
The gun landed with a thump at her feet.
“Turn around and sit with your back to me.”
He dropped to the ground, groaning, leaning on his good side, more concerned about his leg than her. Never taking her eyes off him, she grabbed the rope from her saddle horn, holstered her rifle and trussed him like a turkey.
She scowled, tapping her toe, frustration arrowing through her system. Now she had to haul his sorry carcass across his horse. She took a deep inhale, tamped down the annoyance, and dragged him to his feet. All in a day’s work.
Available at Amazon.
And thanks to Jacqui Murray and Chrys Fey for helping me get the world out today. Appreciate ya.

It's Tuesday
Greetings, Blogger Buds.
Franky made a prison break and is now under house arrest. We go through this every few months. He paces the prison confines until he finds a weak spot then chews or digs his way out. His time 'on the outside' usually lasts about twenty minutes until me or the warden (the HH) hauls him back in, minus chains and manacles. From there he is incarcerated until the warden finds the weak spot and fixes it. Our prisoner really needs a little black cap and jacket.
Do you think he likes the tree because it's the closest he can get to the outside?

Great Reads Friday
My bud and fellow writer, J. Q. Rose has written her memoirs. I was lucky enough to get a sneak peak and loved it. Memoirs aren't my normal read but it caught my attention at the beginning and held my interest all the way through.

Thanks. Sandra, for hosting me. We are kicking off the winter virtual book tour for my memoir, Arranging a Dream on your amazing blog!
I brought along a list of tips for arranging fresh flowers. You’ll understand why that’s my subject today when you read the Back of the Book for Arranging a Dream: A Memoir.

BACK OF THE BOOK:
In 1975, budding entrepreneurs Ted and Janet purchase a floral shop and greenhouses where they plan to grow their dream. Leaving friends and family behind in Illinois and losing the security of two paychecks, they transplant themselves, their one-year-old daughter, and all their belongings to Fremont, Michigan, where they know no one.
Will the retiring business owners nurture Ted and Janet as they struggle to develop a blooming business, or will they desert the inexperienced young couple to wither and die in their new environment?
Most of all, can Ted and Janet grow together as they cultivate a loving marriage, juggle parenting with work, and root a thriving business?
Follow this couple’s inspiring story, filled with the joy and triumphs and the obstacles and failures experienced as they travel along the turbulent path of turning dreams into reality.
Basic Fresh Floral Design Tips by J.Q. Rose
It’s very important to always cut the stems on a slant to allow more surface area for water to enter the stem. Allow the flowers to soak up the warm, not hot, not cold, water with dissolved preservative before beginning your design.Use a very sharp knife or scissors to cut the stems. Dull tools will crush the stem and not allow the flower to drink up the water. If you use wet foam for your arrangement, be sure to place the foam in a bucket of warm water with preservative dissolved in it. Then place the foam, cut to fit your container, into the water, but don’t hold it down in the bucket. Every inch of the foam needs to be wet. If you hold it down for a couple of minutes, water does not reach all parts of it and may leave air holes in the material. Your flower could dry out because the stem end is in air and not water. So leave it in to soak up all the water. You can tell when you pick it up if the block is full or not by the weight. If making a “plunk-it” arrangement in a vase, simply bring the vase to the edge of the counter, hold the flower bunch next to the vase, and determine how tall or short you want the arrangement to be. Cut at the point where the flower stems are even with the top of the counter. Then “plunk” the flowers in the vase immediately. Easy-peasy.Always give a fresh cut to the flower stem before placing it in the arrangement. When making a centerpiece, determine the width and length by placing a flower or greens at north, south, east, and west. Determine the height by placing a flower in the center. Just remember to start your arrangement with five flowers, then fill in.Don’t forget to use green foliage to make a lovely background for the flowers to showcase their colors.Include three shapes of flowers in mixed bouquets—a spike flower e.g. gladiola or snapdragon, a round flower e.g. carnation or mum, and a form flower e.g. iris or rose. Usually, and I say usually because the rule is to place lighter colors at the top of an arrangement and darker colors at the base. But rules are made to be broken, so design your piece to please your eye.Leave space around each flower so you can see each one. Don’t cram them together so tightly that the viewer can’t appreciate each beautiful face. The most important rule is to make a bouquet that you will enjoy. Really, how can you go wrong when working with brilliant colors, unique shapes, and pleasant fragrances? You can’t!

QUEST AND ADVENTURES by Judy and Keith
This is a lovely book for young people. There are a wide variety of tales including a journey undertaken by a colony of ants, talking earthworms, and my particular favorite, a young girl trying to break into the all male world of wizards. The stories are a nice length that can be read to a little one or read by young readers. And the authors weave educational facts in with the magic.
A very enjoyable read.

As humans our emotions are all over the boards. We love. We hate. We're happy.
We're sad. We're angry. We're ecstatic. Some of these responses make us feel good, others bad. This book breaks down our emotions and shows different ways to turn the negative into a positive.

THE AWAY PLACE by Susanne Marie Knight
Who would expect to encounter magic, especially in the form of the east and north winds? But that's what happens when Marta Jordan decides to end it all after a series of tragic events leaves her bereft of hope. Not only do the delightful winds--Sola and Quill--intervene, they introduce sexy Joe Noble into her life, who's dealing with his own set of issues. After that the magic begins.
This charming tale deftly combines love and magic in a modern-day fairy tale.
