Ketch-up Day

AND

I don't know about you, but I'm more than ready to see flowers blooming.  A show of hands if you feel the same.

AND

Here's this month's calendar pictures before January is completely gone :)

What have you been doing for fun this month, Blogger Buds?

I've been watching my outdoor live feed.  It's a hoot. It's set up on the porch near the cat food I set out for strays.  So far the visitors are: a Carolina Wren that hops in the bowl and gets himself a few pieces of cat food to eat, a possum and about four cats.  The HH says we need to start taking reservations since it's currently first come first served.

What about you? Do you have an outdoor live feed?

 Stay warm....

Ketch-Up Day

Can you say Brrr? The cold weather is coming. I sincerely hope the pipes don't freeze.

I had a great birthday. Partied for two days. Heh. One of the buds hosted a brunch for me at his house. Oh my goodness. It was amazing.

The cookies were homemade, double or triple chocolate and made by one of the buds.

He served tomato bisque, mushroom and spinach quiche and the most amazing salad. Have you ever had watermelon radishes or roasted yellow beets? They were delish and so very pretty.

The next day, the 70s Club went out for lunch. We tried a new place. The food and service were great, along with the price:)

Then at home, I had strawberry cheese (birthday) cake waiting for me.  Very yummy.  If anyone out there is interested, this came from Publix.

Well, the birthday celebration is over but the leftovers and cake linger on:)

AND

Frank at the game table.

Both my grandson and SIL play chess. I'm so impressed. My grandson is only eleven. I've never played a game of chess in my life, but I can play a mean game of checkers.  Heh.

What's your pleasure? Do you play chess or checkers?

Stay warm. Stay safe, blogger buds.

Ketch-up Day

Greetings Blogger Buds. Did you catch any of the storm? As you can see, we got some snow and ice, but were very, very lucky.

To our friends in California, you are constantly in our thoughts.

I stewed some apples in the crock pot the other day. Not too bad and easy peasy--which is always a prerequisite for me 😀 Just toss in some sliced apples, butter, sugar and cinnamon and let them stew. Pecans optional.

I was very pleased to get this painting from my daughter for Christmas:) Her eye for detail always amazes me.

AND

Some critter pics.

Frank still re-cooping from the holidays.

Where's Nori....

Remember this little girl? A rescue in Virginia took her and she has a new home. I'm so pleased.

AND

From Colorado

Thanks, July

AND

Last but not least

A couple of Belated Happy Birthday Shout-outs.

What Did Neanderthals Look Like

If you don't know a lot about Neanderthals, you may think this picture is accurate:

or this one (the angry, crazed killer)

But did you know this one is the current accepted depiction of your ancestors:

Their physique

Neanderthals were barrel-chested to accommodate larger lungs(for longer/harder running), somewhat shorter than us with robust bones. As youimagine, skin color doesn’t preserve over tens of thousands of years soscientists disagree whether Neanderthal’s were white, brown, or black. Beingnative to Eurasia, they absorbed sunlight as our species does in lower sunareas. The presumption because of this and additional reasons is they werelight-skinned.

Their heads

They had a shorter and more sloping forehead than ours, arather prognathic and large nose (an adaptation to colder weather), a largerbrow ridge, and a thinner skull. They had our white eyes with colored irises, likely brown, and larger than ours to serve them in their darker habitats.Their brains were on average, vaguely larger than ours, but shaped differently. They were roomier in the back than the front. I won't delve into the why ofthat, but probably had to do with the more physical nature of their lives whereours require more cerebral considerations.

They had no chins.

Their hair was straightish and darkish with a percentage ofredheads.

Their gate and bearing was not as smooth or elegant as ours, but was sturdy and durable.

There was not much difference between the size of the sexes. Some scientists believe females were smaller, others think it negligible. Thissuggests that violent male dominance was not integral to their socialstructure. Their lifestyle was more likely akin to the bonobos, whose adultlives are based around long-term female friendships and getting along with eachother.
