What makes a HERO?

Comic book heroes have superpowers and are invincible. REAL heroes are mortals who seem to have an inner strength to run towards danger to help strangers even while others run away. We’ve heard and seen the stories of heroism that came from 9/11, or hurricanes, earthquakes and other catastrophes. Right now, in 2020, our country, our world, is going through a frightening pandemic and yet there are people with remarkable dedication and bravery to be there when people need them. Our First Responders...

Beshert

Though the term beshert can refer to any fortuitous event (I missed the bus, but it must have been beshert, because I heard it broke down), it is most often used to mean a soulmate: the one person whom an individual is divinely destined to marry.
(from MOMENT)

Now going on approximately two months of #SocialDistancing and #StayAtHome, I think its remarkable that my husband and I (and our two cats) have actually had many peaceful and relaxing days TOGETHER. Of course theres a bit of craziness...

Gimpy

Back at our old home in Rockland County, NY we got to see numerous deer and some other wildlife traipsing through our back yard. While the suburban town wasnt exactly wide open spaces, we were close enough to a large park system and, lets face facts, builders put our homes up and encroached on the wildlife homes more than a bit. We lived within (a long) walking distance to a busy roadway so, unfortunately, it wasnt uncommon to find that a domestic pet that had gotten loose or a wild animal...

A Whole New World

The world has seen catastrophes before, but the COVID-19 crisis has shaken us, filled many of us with fear, despair, and loss. This latest strain of the Corona Virus has caused a worldwide pandemic with more than 200-thousand deaths and nearly 3-million confirmed cases. In the United States alone weve lost over 52-thousand people and have more than a million confirmed cases.
Many American families have sheltered in place, schools are closed and many businesses shuttered (at least for now). The...

I’m Insulted…

Like many of us, I havent gotten to actually SEE and be with any of my kids for about two months now. We have two that weve raised and two that have joined our family and I miss each one of them. Yes weve spoken on the phone and actually had a few video chats but I miss being able to hug them. The holidays were a letdown, we usually make a point of having a Passover Seder together, but it didnt happen this year. Yes, I know that has been the case for most parents of grown children. And I feel...

#StayAtHome

The curve is flattening! And that is good news indeed, but it doesnt mean that the danger is over. The COVID-19 virus is still out there. Because of the STAY-AT-HOME orders that many governors imposed, and because of the folks that chose to heed the advice as well as wear masks and gloves when they NEEDED to go out the rate of infection is slowing. This doesnt mean its safe to gather in large groups YET, or that we could come and go freely in and out of stores and other attractions This does...

What a Strange Time This Is

Passover, Easter, Ramadan we are NOT cancelling our holidays, but we are celebrating/observing with a little less family at our tables and without the time we normally spend in our house of worship.
If you observe one of these holidays, like me, I am sure you are thinking, it doesnt even feel like Passover has always been one of my favorite holidays. As a young child I would go to sleep the night before and when I woke in the morning, like magic, everything in the kitchen had changed. I truly...

April Fool’s Day

I never did like April Fools Day pranks. My friends, and even some family, always made fun of me for that. But all I saw was cruelty and disappointment.
I saw people who had money problems being told Omigosh, its a winning lottery ticket! and then their tears of joy changed to forlorn disappointment when they realized it was just a prank. I watched as insecure children were ignored as their classmates pretended not to see them as an April Fools prank and they did their best not to cry. And I...

The Ninth Day

It was approximately nine days ago when our county issued a Declaration of Disaster and issued a strong recommendation that we all STAY HOME; We encourage --- residents to stay home except for essential needs, to get food, care for a relative or friend, get necessary healthcare or go to an essential job. It is okay to go outside for walks if you are not in a group. Stay at least six feet apart when leaving your home for essential activities.
To be perfectly honest, my sweet husband is...

Social Distancing

Ive always enjoyed my solitude and often dont venture from the house. I have my computer, reading, writing and the cats. Yes occasionally I like going out with my husband to dinner, the movies or other fun spots. My husband, on the other hand, likes to be on the move and not strapped to the house.
With the Coronavirus (COVID-19) emergency all around us (thank G-d we are NOT sick), we are listening to the CDCwarnings The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus. By...
