MAGICAL THOUGHT OF THE DAY: "EXPERIENCE BECOMING…"

in 2006, a public school teacher had her students write letters to famous authors, asking their advice on the arts. This is the FANTASTIC response Kurt Vonnegut send back:

What a beautiful, generous man.

My suggestion is that we all take his advice today about writing a six-line poem, sharing it with nobody, tearing it up into little pieces and scattering it away.

Experience becoming, everyone! Let's do it! Creation for the sake of creation!

(And thank you to my own best teacher ever, Ms. Carpenter, for sharing this link with me!)

Onward,

WANNA BUY MY HOUSE?

Open House this Sunday!

Hi guys!

As some of you know, I'm selling my beautiful house in Frenchtown, NJ (where I wrote both COMMITTED and THE SIGNATURE OF ALL THINGS)…in order to move, well, about 1/4 of a mile away, into another lovely house in Frenchtown.

Why am I moving?

Because apparently I have to move every few years or I go a little nuts.

So I'm selling my place, and I was wondering if any of hlu lovelies wants to buy it?

If you click on this website, you can join me on the world's dorkiest video tour of the whole property! And you can read the NY Time story about the house sale. So click here:

http://bit.ly/1i8th0D

So if you are crazy enough to seriously consider this, and you would like to come see the place, contact my friend Rayya Elias who is my property manager and arrange to visit this Sunday May 4th, between 1:30 and 3:30pm.

Her email is: propertymanager3r@gmail.com

This place is a heaven for writers/artists/dreamers/gardeners/chefs/creators.

Which I know most of you are…

It is my dearest wish to keep the place in the family!

Thanks, and enjoy the video tour!

Heart and ONWARD,
LG

Dear Ones — I’m selling my beautiful perfect house. Why? Because I’m a restless person and I need to move all the time. It’s time to move, then! Otherwise, there is no sane reason to sell this exquisite and lovingly renovated “four-over-four” Italianate Victorian house that was built in 1869 by the…

I love this photo, taken last night in London, with the great Andrew Solomon, who'd just won The Wellcome Prize for his book FAR FROM THE TREE.

And just a heads up, you guys — Andrew gave the most transcendent TED talk this year. He spoke about difference, identity, family, love and belonging. (I was openly sobbing in the audience, let me confess.) Rumor is, the talk is going to be released in a few weeks. So stand by! When it's out, I'll be the first to spread the news…

Man, there are some talented and angelic souls in this world,

BOOKS OF THE DAY!

Dear Ones –

Last night the winner of the Wellcome Prize (for excellence in medical writing) was announced…and it was Andrew Solomon, for his masterwork FAR FROM THE TREE. Some of you may have remembered me writing about about that book on this page already…it's brilliant!

I was just lucky to be on the shortlist with such a lineup….and I wanted to suggest humbly that you read ALL these books. They are wonderful.

Man, I had fun in London!

Heart,

LG

CALLING ALL ONCE AND FUTURE WRITERS!

Take a moment to read this marvelously written essay by Karen Gillespie, about Chick Lit vs Serious literature…and the dangers of MFA programs…and the importance of staying true to your own voice.

I think this is just freaking great. Made me want to stand up and cheer.

THANK YOU, EVERYONE!

You're blowing my mind, dear ones. My new TED talk was released only a few days ago, and already almost a half a million people have watched it!

This is truly amazing to me because I was nervous and insecure about this speech. I really can't believe the response.

Anyhow, when something goes viral with me, I know who to credit: All of you good souls who hang out with me on this page every single day.

Thank you for watching, thank you for sharing, thank you for all your loving feedback.

You are very good to me.

Sono grata…I am grateful.

IS THIS OUR ALMA WHITTAKER?

Yesterday at my event in London, I received the most beautiful gift from a reader named Lily. She handed me a beautifully wrapped small package of postcards, illustrated with this image, which she herself had drawn and designed. She thought the woman looked like Alma, and I do, too…

Such a sweet gift!

Thank you, dear Lily, wherever you are!

And now I must send everyone to your Etsy page, because ALL your work is so lovely:
