HAPPY 214th BIRTHDAY, ALMA!
From page one, line one, of THE SIGNATURE OF ALL THINGS:
"Alma Whittaker, born with the century, slid into our world on the fifth of January, 1800."
I like it that today in Pennsylvania we could also encounter, as on the day of Alma's fictional birth, "a perfect Philadelphia winter." Snowy and cold and bright.
A wonderful day, maybe, to stay inside with a cup of tea and nice long book about a remarkable woman?

Never let anyone throw a pile of toxic vitriol at you, and then try to get away with it by calling themselves a "truth-teller".
Don't ever do that to anyone, either.
Honesty untempered by compassion is nothing but a counterfeit virtue — and is usually just an excuse to be cruel.
So don't do it. And don't let it be done to you.
