Winter Wonderland

It is a blizzard outside my office window and the kid in me wants to be out there making snowballs. The writer in me says "What if it keeps snowing and snowing and we're trapped inside our house for weeks on end?" Actually I visited a school where the kids were trapped for a night because of a huge snowstorm. They had peanut butter sandwiches for supper and slept on the gym floor. My friend Marcia and I wrote a story about it called Dragons Don't Throw Snowballs. Of course, the school I visited didn't have a snow dragon outside, trying to get in. But the writer in me said, "What if . . . " Dragons Don't Throw Snowballs (The Adventures of the Bailey School Kids, #51) by Debbie Dadey

Dreaming of a horse!

I always always wanted a horse, as most kids do. I still do! So it was fun for me to write about Echo wanting a horse (a sea horse), but her dream is complicated by her sister. "It's not right to keep wild animals as pets," she says and that starts a debate that gets all of Trident Academy involved. Hope you'll join the debate in the Secret Sea Horse, which comes out today (Mermaid Tales #6). Tomorrow is the last day for the giveaway on Goodreads.

Happy Day!

Most of the time I write in my office with very little feedback, so when I received an email from an editor yesterday saying she loved my idea I was doing the Snoopy Happy Dance. Of course, I'm trying not to be too excited (my hopes have been crushed more times than I care to remember). Still, I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best. I've been working on this idea for a long time, probably ten years at least.

Puzzle

I usually hate crossword puzzles, but I recently realized my story revisions are becoming a complex puzzle of sorts. I am piecing together what should go where and the big surprise is that I'm loving it. It's a good thing because I've been working on this particular story for a long, long time. I'm sure this rewrite will be the magic one that will include the missing piece called publication!

Sniff!

The kids were sniffing too! With tissue box in hand, I visited a school in New York State yesterday. Evidently the allergy season has landed hard on our area, but thank goodness the kids were understanding. I hope the kids in Watchung, NJ will be too. I'll be visiting three schools there on Monday and then autographing at the bookstore. Hope to see you. I'll be the one with the red nose! http://www.watchungbooksellers.com/ev...

Princess Party

Oh my goodness! Saturday was so much fun. Doylestown Bookshop had a Princess Party to celebrate the release of The Lost Princess. We had a princess lesson on manners, sang the Mermaid Song (because princesses love to sing), read from The Lost Princess, decorated crowns, and had princess cupcakes! I crammed my body into my daughter's amazingly beautiful junior prom dress and wore her fifth grade Cinderella tiara to become a princess for the day!
