Whoah! This really surprised me:the arrival today of an advance reader's copy (ARC)of THE BOY ON THE PORCH!
It will be published in September.I wasn't expecting an advance copyso soon.
But here it is, a gift. It's a book.No longer sheets of papermarked with corrections.A book.
I'd better go read it.Hope it's good.

The Well

My grandparents lived without indoor plumbingand raised eight children.
I was afraid of the wellbecause one of my cousinsthreatened to push me into itdown into that deep black water
but I was also drawn to the wellto the novelty of itand begged to fetch the water.
When I now use the phraserefilling the wellto describe breaks between booksand the gathering of new inspiration,in my mind I seethat well, above,
deep and dark and full.

Cows

Our granddaughter loves cowsand we love being able to see her with cows.
The black and white ones are Belted Gallowaysalso known as Oreo cows.

One odd thing we discovered is that the two cows she is touching, above, share names with two of my characters:Zinnie (at left, as in Chasing Redbird)and Zola (at right, as in The Unfinished Angel.)
Heh.
