Meet Amar from the Rys Rising fantasy series

Character Profile: AmarAmar is a complex man. At times he can be supremely confident, but deep down he is tormented by his great failure to defend his tiny tribe. But there is no fixing the great devastation that swept away the life he was born to, and he focuses on serving Onja, the magical rys that fortuitously appeared at the moment he should have died. Her magic saved him and will influence him for the rest of his life.

Amar loves serving Onja. Her greatness soothes all his sorrows. Joining her glorious quest for power sets him on the path to becoming a warrior wrapped in mystery and fear. When she tells him to seek power and be as great as he can be, he defies outlaws and kings alike to achieve her goals. And Amar leverages his extraordinary relationship with Onja to attract loyal men.

Through a combination of shocking deeds and magical help, Amar quickly earns a reputation as a fearsome figure in the tribal kingdoms of Gyhwen. The peasants of the Sabar'Uto Domain whisper that he is the dro-shalum, which means curse demon.

Amar likes the name.

Famous quotes:

"You have a great sense of possession over she who dances naked before so many."

"My Lord must agree that this head is sufficient evidence that your enemy is dead."

"I'm not going to touch you nor let any other man touch you. Lax Ar Fu wants your ransom. I'm not going to throw away that gold just for the pleasure of breaking you in."

To join Amar on his adventures, download a free copy of Rys Rising: Book I. No matter what he does, serving Onja makes it right.

Surviving initiation - Flash excerpt from Rys Rising at Indie Snippets

A few weeks ago I discovered Indie Snippets, an entertaining blog that promotes author-produced fiction by featuring very short excerpts of about 200 words.

On Wednesday my submission from Rys Rising: Book I was featured. I sent in the scene from the climax of Amar and Urlen's initiation into the Kez outlaw society.

Read the excerpt from Rys Rising at Indie Snippets.

Thank you to blog owner Bryan R. Dennis for publishing this blog. I think I better submit some more snippets from my other novels.[image error]

Ebay holiday shopping with flash auctions

Bidding is fun - Falbe Publishing on ebayI've been an ebay seller for years. I routinely sell paperbacks to ebay shoppers. Usually I run standard one-week auctions, but I have decided to run flash auctions as the holiday shopping season kicks off. By flash auction I mean that each auction will last one day and then close. This way bidders will know very quickly whether they won the item. I understand that a person looking for a gift may not want to wait a week to find out if he or she won. So, with one day auctions a person can feel comfortable bidding because there will not be a long wait involved. I'll also enable instant purchases with the buy it now button for people willing to spend more to skip the bidding process.

I'll be running the flash auctions from Tuesday November 22nd through Wednesday November 30th. This way I know everything will ship by the first week of December and I can guarantee delivery before December 25th.

After I end the flash auctions, I'll go back to my regular weekly listings and add a notice that I can't promise a Christmas delivery.

Find my current listings at: http://myworld.ebay.com/falbepublishing

Products that will be available during the flash auctions are:
Get Dicey: Play Craps and Have Fun – This is my nonfiction how to play craps guide. I used to work as a Las Vegas craps dealer a long time ago in a galaxy far away, so I actually am an expert at explaining this popular casino game. Get Dicey was the first book I self published and it has been steadily selling for years.

The Rys Chronicles complete series in paperback. This bundle includes four books: Union of Renegades, The Goddess Queen, Judgment Rising, and The Borderlands of Power.

If my readers who enjoyed my ebooks would like to get The Rys Chronicles in print, especially as a gift, my ebay listings provide a great way to get the novels at a low price.

Great Minds Think Aloud Literary Community awards 5 ravens to Rys Rising

Rys Rising: Book I received a positive review at Great Minds Think Aloud Literary Community. Reviewer Maegan Morin of the Great Minds Think Aloud Literary Community unveiled her review of Rys Rising: Book I on Friday.

Her opening remarks
"Upon first starting this novel I was a little skeptical. I have literally read hundreds of fantasy novels but never any by an indie author and I was worried that I would be dissappointed. Luckily my worried thoughts were in vain."

After giving her opinions on my writing and characters, Morin added:

"I would recommend this book to anyone who loves fantasy."
So would I! Thank you for the great review! Contrary to popular belief, writers need more than rejection and verbal abuse to thrive. We need readers who like our work to mention it to others.

Morin's remarks also reminded me about readers who are honestly leery of giving a self published title a try. I'm glad she overcame her worries and ended up having a great read. To disregard indie fiction is like imposing on yourself a rule that you will never eat a home cooked meal and only eat at restaurants.

Morin's complete review can be read at the GMTA Community.

Buy Union of Renegades complete fantasy audiobook

Some of you might be aware that Union of Renegades is currently being serialized as a podcast at Podiobooks that also syndicates into iTunes. It's going to be several more months before all the chapters are up there, so hopefully you've become hooked enough on the story to buy the audiobook.

Or some of my readers may like to purchase it as a gift for an audiobook enthusiast. And my most hardcore fans may just want to relive the adventures while commuting.

For the foreseeable future, the Union of Renegades audiobook will only be available at my websites. There are not any indie friendly marketplaces that cater to the audiobook market that I am aware of. I have to have at least 5 audio titles before I can even apply to become a supplier to Audible. People who listen to audiobooks have probably noticed that mostly only best sellers from big corporate fiction publishers are available as audiobooks because of the production costs involved. I had to pry open my wallet and hire voice talent so I could make a decent audio product and I'm excited to have taken my first step into the audio market.

Indie writer news -- Cover art and Pre-order discount

Cover art and a deleted scene

Paranormal romance author J.R. Pearse Nelson revealed at her blog on Saturday the cover art for her upcoming novel Vessel. In the post announcing the arrival of cover art, Nelson includes a scene cut from the final version of a previous novel titled Tribute. Read the scene that the author loves but chose not to include.

I like this deleted scenes concept for writers. I enjoy watching them in the extras on DVDs so I think it will transfer nicely to the medium of novels. Of course I never have any deleted scenes to share from my novels. If I cut it out believe me it needed to be cut out. And if I love it, then I will find a way to make it work. However, I fully understand that not everyone is like me (a fact painfully apparent every day of my life), so I recommend reading Nelson's deleted scene. Her reason for removing it makes sense. It was a point of view issue and not a quality issue.

Daniel L. Carter announces sequel to The Unwanted

Almost one year ago I reviewed The Unwanted positively, and the author emailed me recently to announce the upcoming release of the next book in the series The Children of Anak. It's the second book in Carter's sci fi G-6 Chronicles, and he's hoping to release it by December 9th. Carter is offer a Christmas promotion on pre-orders through his website. Readers will get 20 percent off an autographed copy.

Please go his website G-6 Chronicles: The Unwanted Trilogy to order The Children of Anak and see more about Carter's science fiction.[image error]

Character selected to appear on my next novel New Religion

I have paid the deposit to commission artwork for the cover of my upcoming fantasy novel New Religion: Rys Rising Book III. In about two to three months I will have the art and hopefully I will also have the manuscript polished and presentable to readers.

The character that will be featured on the cover of New Religion is Loxane, the Shamaness of the Kelsurs, and, if you have already read Book II Savage Storm, you know she is also now the High Priestess of Onja.

My readers will know that Loxane tends to dance naked before the heathen masses, but alas I will not be depicting her nude on the cover. (This would automatically get the novel rejected for inclusion in the Apple iBooks store. Weirdoes!) So the cover art won't be able to reveal her best tattoos, but I'm hoping to receive a stunning portrait of Loxane in her new armored vest that Amar looted from the armory of the Temulanka Tribe and with her preferred weapon the sickle. Maybe someday I will be able to commission a nude portrait of her for my websites, and then we could see all her tattoos.

If you have not had the pleasure of meeting Loxane yet, here's a link to the chapter she first appears in the first novel Rys Rising: Chapter 6. The Thievesmeet

To get started with my new epic fantasy series Rys Rising, please download the first novel for free. Rys Rising: Book I.

You can read it and the next book and be ready when New Religion comes out in hopefully February.[image error]
