Looking for something different?
If you're in the Columbus OH area then there's a convention called Context coming August 27-29 focused on speculative fiction and related games, comics and film in your backyard and shall be great fun! The fee won't break the bank and the environment is a friendly relaxed one - a great way to spend the weekend.
There are interesting panels to sit in on [i.e. How Did I Get Here? and Illustration from the Artists Point of View and I'll be sitting on Paranormal Romance amongst others:] and a books...

INVOLUNTARY MUSCULAR CONTRACTIONS
A professor at Northern Michigan University was giving a lecture on 'Involuntary Muscular Contractions'.
Realizing this was not the most riveting subject, the professor decided to lighten the mood slightly and use an example of an involuntary contraction to get their attention and help the students better understand the subject matter.
So, he pointed to a young woman in the front row and said, 'Do you know what your asshole is doing while you're having an org...

Movie Talk!
Back in May, when I first started playing with Netflix, I watched a documentary that has stuck with me ever since.
The flick is called Sacco and Vanzetti and is about two men who were accused, ultimately found guilty and put to death for a murder they didn't commit. Not a new story, but what makes this one unique is that they were pinpointed because they were immigrants. It's surprising how often these two men come to my mind during these current times where immigrants are often the lead stor...

WARNING! Personal Issue Revealed!
Monday night, the cutie and I watched The Big Bang Theory [a show we both enjoy and there aren't many:], and I had a moment of self-discovery.
Here we go.
Sheldon Cooper, the top nerd, is my twin when it comes to food and a few of his quirky qualities.
When a scene focused on the usual Thursday night meal not being the one in front of him, I laughed, and the cutie held it in. Even though I'd never paid that much attention to our similarities, I get it now and he did as well, but wasn't about to s...

Book Talk!
Since the end of June, I've made some progress through my TBR stack and I've added to it, but what am I waiting to be released?
Veil of Night by Linda Howard - while I have purchased her last few books, I admit to not be pulled in to read them, and they sit on a shelf waiting for me jump in with both feet. [releases today!:]
Wicked Appetite by Janet Evanovich - glad she found a publishing house to continue the Stephanie Plum series. I have an add love affair with series. Yes, I love them, but t...

Power Outage!
At my recent assault trial, I offered a plea of "Guilty with an explanation." The judge asked me what my explanation was, so I told my story.
"Your Honor," I said, "I had a mammogram appointment, which I actually kept. I was met with: 'Hi! I'm Belinda!' This perky clipboard carrier smiled from ear to ear, tilted her head to one side and crooned, 'All I need you to do is step into this room right here, strip to the waist, then slip on this gown. Everything clear?' I'm thinking, 'Be...

Writing Cave Update!
A week ago I mentioned diving back into an ms/trilogy that I'd set down for over a year and am now almost done with the hardest stage of self-edits. The slash and burn one and I've done that in spades, and I have two chapters to go. I've also added 8k and was surprised to notice that. I'm not a total word count junkies, in fact, it's something I rarely look at because the length of the story is set when it's finished. So, what's "Come, Now" about?
To put it succinctly: Russians in New York City...

Friday Funny!
A male patient is lying in bed in the hospital, wearing an oxygen mask over his mouth and nose, still heavily sedated from a difficult four hour surgical procedure.
A young student nurse appears to give him a partial sponge bath.
'Nurse,' he mumbles, from behind the mask 'Are my testicles black?'
Embarrassed, the young nurse replies 'I don't know, Sir. I'm only here to wash your upper body.'
He struggles to ask again, 'Nurse, are my testicles black?'
Concerned that he may elevate his vitals f...

A peek into my writing cave
Okay, my writing cave isn't a physical place like an office, but more like a mental one. With all the tooing and froing we do, it works for me to have a mental place I go when it's time to buckle down and get down to the nitty-gritty of writing. So, what's going on inside the cave?
This week has been carved out for going through a completed ms that's I adore, but haven't touched since January '09 - "Come, Now". I'm self-editing and it's an interesting stage, especially the more distance I have...
