Chan Ling Yap (Yap Chan Ling when in Asia) was born in Kuala Lumpur. She was educated in Malaysia and subsequently in England where she obtained a PhD in Economics. She lectured at the University of Malaya before joining the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization in Rome where she worked for nearly two decades. Nostalgic reunion in KL

In the past two weeks I met up with friends and family in Kuala Lumpur. I have not seen them for years, ever since my husband fell ill in 2009/2010. He died in 2014, and although I continued to write and had published two more novels, A Flash of Water and more recently, Where the Sunrise is Red, I have not been active at all in meeting people. I was very touched that I am still remembered.
