"Another aspect of Mr. Kavanaghs writing is the historical knowledge he peppers throughout the story. Never does this information dampen the telling, it only enhances the thrill of the solving." THE MUSE REVIEW OF THE EMBROIDERED CORPSE.

German Sales

Heartening to see that my Belinda Lawrence mysteries have made decent sales in Germany via AMAZON de. What's stopping the rest of you? You don't know what you're missing. :-)
GOODREAD: 'Just before I started reading this book I was reading the book written by JK Rowling, The Cuckoo's Calling which is also a crime fiction book. I have got to say Brian Kavanagh's book is so much better, well written, interesting, can't help loving the 2 main characters, Belinda and her friend Hazel.'

A film remembered.

TWO DAYS TO ZERO
Frank Thring: from King of Kings to the Terrible Ten.

In the early 1960's I edited an internationally popular children's TV series, The Terrific Adventures of the Terrible Ten, produced by Roger Mirams. I was fortunate enough to direct some episodes, of which TWO DAYS TO ZERO is one.

I commissioned the script by David Sale (No 96) and cast Frank Thring fresh from his big screen appearance and direction by Nicholas Ray.

It's amazing how, when young, one displays some amazing chutzpah. Frank, I think was amused at the idea and agreed. He was joined by Dianna Bell and Ernie Bourne with an appearance by Freddy Parslow. The film was a lot of fun to make, and there are tales which won't be told out of school; suffice to say the BBC refused to screen it, stating 'farce is often a family joke'. How judicious. Nonetheless, the AFI liked it and gave it a gong.

The film is now viewable on my VIMEO site.

I hope you watch the film and enjoy the fun. BK

COZY WITH AN EDGE

Recently a reader made comment the covers for my Belinda Lawrence mysteries suggest dark happenings and are not indicative of a cozy read.

Hmmm.

Well, a long story but the short version is when my old publisher closed three of the books were taken up by an eBook publisher, and they designed those three covers in the current style. Subsequently, I placed all six paperbacks and remaining three eBooks with another publisher and, so as to not create confusion, I stayed with the 'dark' style. So there you have it.

But I should explain that Belinda and Hazel Whitby, her associate in the adventures are not 'tea and cakes' characters. The books follow the cozy requirement of no violence no excessive blood, and no explicit sexual content, so are valid cozies.

I call them Cozy - with an edge.

The difference with my Belinda books is they are daring. English village mysteries with international
excursions. No cozy bakeries, bookshops, or doughnut recipes. Instead, each mystery revolves around an historical item or location which is at the crux of the story. There is humour as well as the tight situations both Belinda and Hazel find themselves in, as they are both spirited ladies and prefer a G and T to Earl Grey, and a Steak & Kidney Pie to a quiche. They take risks and are not afraid to step in where angels would fear to tread.

So with my tongue in cheek I suggest all this in the covers; each one reflecting the mood of the melodrama and a hint of what lies between covers. It is up to the reader to decide if they wish to read my books; but may I suggest going beyond the cover, read the blurb, the extracts, and positive reviews Belinda and Hazel have received, take the plunge and join them in their fun. I think you'll enjoy the experience.
Happy reading to All.
