Can substance abusers be Cured? by King Steelo...
Can substance abusers really be cured? Yes---but the real question should be do substance abusers want to be cured? I have seen many drug users come to prison for years and swear they are cured and as soon as they get out---they go right back to using drugs? Now those are the actions of someone who didn't wanna be cured---right? He was forced into sobriety by being incarcerated but when returning to freedom and facing the real test---he went right back to the substance. Temptations, so called friends and those 'let's get loaded demons'--- ambush you!
Now I'm a firm believer in action speaks louder than words. So it's on you as a former junkie to get your shit together and act like you want to be cured! Most drugs are a mind thing with the exception of heroin---the #1 pain killer in the world---it takes over your mind, body and soul. Withdrawals are the worst stomach virus---just imagine---shittin' water and you feeling like dying. Furthermore you go to a clinic and they put you on methadone and suboxens to kick the dope habit but you then get addicted to those remedies. It's a losing battle trying to conquer addiction and you not having a strong support system.
So is there really a cure when cravings come and go as they please? Anything can trigger a relapse and they attack when you least expect it. The only way you can cure yourself from abusing drugs---is having the strength to finally letting go and being done with drugs! unfortunately---MOST OF US DON'T WANNA BE CURED---WE'RE STILL TOO BUSY LOOKING FOR THE PURE...

Psychological Dehumanization... by Tito Miranda and King Steelo
Dehumanization is the loss of human qualities and attributes that make a person or group of people appear to be human beings. People who are experiencing dehumanization are perceived to be separate, unequal and distant from actual humans. Individuals and institutions (such as state or family) dehumanize others and this demoralization can have both physical and psychological components. There are varied methods in which dehumanization can be used against an individual or group. It can occur through a verbal discourse that likens a group of people to animals or through physical and verbal abuse. Dehumanization can also occur by not acknowledging a person because of particular traits they possess. An example can be seen when a person or group discriminates against a different race solely because they are of a different race or ethnic background. Dehumanization is also a common tactic in war and civil strife by making the enemy appear non-human. It's easier for people to commit violent acts against them or be in support of domination over them. 'CONTROL'---IS WHY ONE HUMAN WILL PERFORM THIS ACT ON ANOTHER HUMAN...
Most people associate dehumanization with slavery. This method was key in breaking down the mind, soul and spirit of enslaved humans. The psychological effects of slavery are still being felt in 2016. Many people believe they simply cannot do any better or grow beyond their current state of living because of this. This state of mind has been passed down from generation to generation. When someone steps up and decides not to be part of that cycle anymore---they are looked upon as sellouts, being crazy, living in an unrealistic state of mind or they are labeled someone who thinks they are better than everyone else. 'THE SLAVE MENTALITY...'
Let's explore Psychological Dehumanization a bit more. We are surrounded by people who have suffered or are still suffering from psychological dehumanization. For example---some people should not procreate. Parents shouldn't make their reality by battering themselves or doing whatever they can to get by. They have become part of the cycle disabling their kids from generation to generation. These parents feel their child can't possibly change the world, have an amazing future or simply just be a better version of themselves. These children become part of the plan or better yet---the child becomes a tool to make the family's life easier---a worker they can CONTROL. Some will be given the task of raising their siblings, others will sell drugs with consent from their parents---which in turn robs them of their youth and innocence. The parents that do want better for their children---will only invest the bare minimum. They will sacrifice the child's hopes and dreams rather than sacrifice themselves or their own dreams. 'IT TAKES MORE THAN JUST SAYING YOU CAN BE WHATEVER YOU WANT TO BE...'
Illegal immigrants deal with dehumanization as well. They often work under horrible conditions and are payed less than minimum wage. They are broken down and fear is instilled in them by their bosses. Sometimes these immigrants are not paid at all and do nothing about it in fear of being punished, deported or incarcerated. My point is that the controlling of one's mind is a tactic used by many---at times inadvertently but systematically. The Prison system is another form of dehumanization especially in Louisiana and King Steelo can share from experience...
King Steelo: Yes prison is definitely a dehumanization tool. They treat prisoners like scum of the earth and the judges, lawyers, police officers, etc... have committed some of the same crimes but never got caught. It's even more messed up among prisoners. For example we were quick to fight each other over bullshit but as soon as the guards get there---everyone shuts up. Why? We outnumbered the staff but allowed them to treat us like shit? All these so-called gangsters turned the other cheek when the man got loud? There is no unity in prison among the inmates---we would kill each other rather than standing up for what's right. The powers that be loved it too---they would keep us healthy and make sure altercations between each other would escalate. Furthermore I have been to camps where the correctional officers themselves would smuggle drugs and cellphones to inmates. All it did was create an unstable environment and the warden didn't care because they kept us CONTROLLED. Psychological dehumanization is a powerful tool in the Louisiana justice system. We are considered the prison capital of the world...
The sad thing about dehumanization is that most people don't realize they are victims or have been affected in one way or another. Some men psychologically and physically dehumanize women. He provides because he must be in CONTROL---it has everything to do with his own personal agenda and nothing to do with the actual relationship. The woman is nothing more than an accessory to this man's life. He belittles the woman, doesn't give her the option to chase her own dreams---whether its working or going to school---he has to be the one to pick a job for her. This man will break her down verbally---he will make her feel that without him---her life will never get any better. The woman will begin to believe him and swear what they have is true love. She will truly believe that she is the problem. Pimps love to use this method.
Domestic abuse, verbal and physical abuse also occurs when a person is in an intimate relationship or marriage and tries to CONTROL the other person. The abuse is used for one purpose only---to gain and maintain CONTROL over you. An abuser doesn't play fair---they use fear, lies, guilt, shame and intimidation to keep you under his or her thumb. Your abuser may also threaten you, hurt you or hurt those around you...
The similarities are crazy aren't they? Slavery is alive and well---specifically in our own minds. Psychological Dehumanization has become part of our everyday lives---whether you want to believe it or not. It has progressed over the years with technology, science and medicine. Y'all need to WAKE UP---take the pillow off your head and put a BOOK in it...

There is a drug dealer living in your neighborhood... by King Steelo
After reading the title---what can you do? Drug dealers don't just pop up like hurricanes do in the Gulf. In order for drug dealers to prosper---they must have clientele. So instead of looking at the drug dealer through a microscope---pay attention to your own surroundings. Without users---who can a dealer sell his drugs to? Do you honestly believe only people in the "hood" do drugs? Yeah right---the middle class suburbs are the cash cow.
Cocaine is considered the rich man's drug and as a former dealer myself---I sold drugs to doctors, lawyers, professional football players, etc... My neighbors knew what I was doing but respected me because I minded my own business and wasn't trafficking out of my crib. I followed the ten crack commandments from Biggie where he stated, "I don't care if they want an ounce---tell'em bounce!"
On the other hand, I don't own planes and didn't get the drugs here in the first place. In reality the biggest drug dealer is Uncle Sam himself. Why is it a problem for some dude to sell bags of purp down the street when Uncle Sam can legalize it and put a tax on it?
Remember without junkies---there wouldn't be any big time drug dealers. So if a drug dealer lives in your neighborhood---LET HIM BE! Karma always catches up to you in the end---so he'll eventually be caught and sent to prison. Or you can move but keep in mind---SUBSTANCE ABUSERS ARE EVERYWHERE! So that can only mean---drug dealers are everywhere too. Just make sure you don't end up a client yourself... All that rattin' isn't necessary... To all you drug dealers---take your lick if you're caught. You did the crime---now be MAN enough to do the TIME...

Can substance abusers really be trusted? by King Steelo
From my experience as a substance abuser---can we really be trusted? The flat out answer is NO! It gets worse and worse as our drug of choice becomes priority and we do what ever we have to---just to fulfill our RUSH! It's continuous problems with immediate gratification! Manipulation in all of our conversations and swear we're in isolation---but it's our loved ones we hurt. Failing our dependents is what got us in this messed up situation. Yet we have to learn the hard way, even stab you in the back---the aftermath---PRISON is the consequences of our acts. TRUST is earned but quickly can be burned. We mess up chance after chance and burning bridges is all we know---can we substance abusers really be trusted? Ask our families they will say HELL NO!
I wrote this while sitting in substance abuse class serving my last prison sentence. Now I'm free and temptations try to ambush me everyday but I maintain and keep positive people around me. You can do the same my ex-cons coming home but stay on point because RELAPSE is a religion out here...

A poem from Destiny... by King Steelo...
Did most of you read my newest book KITES A prison journal... yet? It's about a 33 year old woman Destiny, who was locked up supposedly for traffic tickets and literally lost in the system. It's actually a true story because at the time, we had developed a relationship through the phone, being I was doing time and had one of the best prison luxuries---'a cellphone'... But when she got locked up, we were no longer in contact. She ended up in a place that didn't have the luxuries like real upstate prisons. So she sat in there basically going crazy---who wouldn't? Especially if you know you don't belong there? Destiny was able to cope by writing Kites, which is the prison term for letters. Believe it or not, those kites turned out to be her jailhouse therapy. DRUGS... by KING STEELO...
Think about this---can society really function without DRUGS? It is a part of our everyday lives! Illegal or legal---no matter which way you get it---DRUGS are DRUGS! We all know the effects from street drugs and the drama they bring. Okay what about over-the-counter medicine and alcohol, which are all LEGAL? If you get injured in an accident---what is the remedy? DRUGS! If you can't sleep at night---what is the solution? DRUGS! If you're bipolar or suffer from A.D.D.---what is your antidote? Yep DRUGS! Finally what is the number 1 reason people are doing time nowadays especially in Louisiana one way or another? You guessed it---DRUGS!
Now that we know the stats and what we are up against---most of us still go out and use or sell DRUGS! It's on every corner, or better yet in every store and household in AMERICA. It is accessible all day everyday, so how could you not end up the next person with a drug or alcohol problem? So ask yourself---can you really live without DRUGS? Would the world really be a different place without DRUGS? Speak for yourself when you answer---as for me---it has ruined my life but with GOD and a little luck---I Keep Rising Like The Phoenix... Why do we drink and use drugs? by King Steelo
If we didn't drink or use drugs---we wouldn't be considered Substance Abusers in the first place---right? I think back to why did I ever drink or use drugs and all I can come up with is because my friends did it! I wanted to look cool and get attention from the hot girls in school. I mean back in the days---smoking a joint or drinking a beer wasn't that big of a deal. Little did we know that we opened a gate to another dimension none of us should have entered.
As we got older---our usage increased. We became "Weekend Warriors"---partying and getting high together at clubs. Next thing you know---we graduated to much harder drugs like cocaine, x-pills and heroin. Then we became dependent on our drug of choice. Our world revolved around it---ADDICTION! The drugs took over our minds, bodies and souls. Our friendships weren't the same anymore. We started lying, cheating, stealing and plotting on each other. Some of us would lose everything, end up in prison or even meet DEATH!
How in the world did this become the aftermath of childhood friends who only drank or did drugs every blue moon? Well if I would've known then what I know now---I wouldn't have hung out with my so'called friends in the 1st place. It's hard to accept you're hanging out with a negative peer group but in actuality---you're pleasing them and destroying yourself. I really can't answer the 'Why' but the 'Who, What, When, Where and How' spirals us deep into ROCK BOTTOM and it is not an easy hole to climb out of...
Take it from ME---a 5 time loser and I have no more chances! It's a must I live as a law abiding citizen or them white folks gonna Rail Road me... I CAN'T LET IT HAPPEN---BETTER YET I WON'T LET IT HAPPEN! I'd rather DIE than be trapped in that Living Hell again anyway!!! So think about it next time you're TWEAKIN'---is it really worth the trouble?

Fixed my flaws so I can once again feel the blood flow through my veins and into my heart... Now my chest is hurting because it wasn't enough... I'm only still alive because I can feel its touch... One hour a month just isn't enough... What more do you want? More and more money that I can't save up... Do they want me to fail? Risk it all and go to jail? Because I had to bake a cake for some change from an illegal bake sale and it set me up for failure... I may stumble but me give up---NEVER! I can't fail, I can't go to jail---can't lose the reason that in turn gave me a new life... Will I make it? According to the stats in Louisiana---another prison term is in my future or worse---DEATH! Pray for me...
This poem was donated from a woman who recently came home from prison. Her husband is still currently doing time and she's constantly fighting temptation demons that only bring you down... This is a struggle we ex-convicts face when coming home especially in Louisiana, where the system is set up for you to come right back---RECIDIVISM! Can you believe there are more prisons in Louisiana than schools? This has to stop---starting with ending the Napoleonic laws this state runs by... We have a new governor---so lets start helping people rather than locking everybody up! Holla @ ya boy...
