Monthly Dreams for July 2014!

Celebrated the 4th of July today by going to the Oakland A's game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Dressed up in my flag print tennis shoes, flag purse and a Quacker Factory patriotic tee shirt with white capri pants. If course I also rocked a straw hat and sunglasses.

Enjoyed the day in the sunshine watching my beloved local team. The stadium is old and raggedy. The customer service is poor. The food it not good but it is a great time. I'll call it my artist date for the month - Tranquility Tool.

Enjoyed time with hubby, middle daughter and niece.

Also this month, I started Savvy BootCamp at www.SavvyAuthors.com in an attempt to write 50,000 words this month. Became the team leader for Hearts of Mystery team.

Goals for July 2014

Camping with the Northern California Outdoor Afros

The first weekend of the month I packed the back of Darryl’s Suburban up with my camping stuff and joined the Outdoor Afros on their first beginners camping trip at Lake Chabot campground. I convinced the teenagers to come with me but not the husband as he’d just returned from a five day business trip to the East Coast. My daughter only made it the first night as the toilets were”pit toilets” and very gross. Nevertheless, I had packed way too much stuff but it was my first attempt at “glamping” and I wanted to be comfortable. Basically, I had an entire cot bed with a beautiful set of bed sheets and nice comforter. I was very comfortable and warm.
I’m not sure what the rest of the stuff I had in the back of the car was, oh yeah my son brought his entire bedding as well as his electric  bass guitar and a bunch of other stuff. There was a small group of campers but there were two other teen age boys who my son was able to bond with. The girls “hated “ the trip although they did decide to go on a hike and bonded in their hatred for the occasion. As I mentioned the group was called Outdoor Afros and they are a group started in Oakland which now has chapters all across the United States. It was the first beginner camping trip held for the Northern California chapter. I brought all my stuff which was a good thing because no one else brought plates (notice my large assortment of colored dishes, flatware, and stemware) , dishwashing supplies or stuff to make hot water for tea or hot cocoa in the morning so I ended up just leaving it out on the table for everyone to use. We had a "cook" who prepared all the meals.

Thank God I remembered the Girl Scout trick of hanging a bar of soap on the water faucet to use to wash hands. I noticed the cook using the soap several times. Food was provided on Saturday and Sunday morning. Below is a picture of a few of us having breakfast.
Meals consisted of pancakes, eggs, turkey bacon and orange juice for breakfast, homemade chicken soup for lunch and some chili for dinner. The first night we brought our own dinner. I brought hotdogs buns and condiments as well as subway sandwiches.  We also were instructed to bring our own snacks so I had some wine in small bottles which I didn’t drink, stuff for so’mores, popcorn, bags of chips and watermelon and fruit.

I found a string of solar powered lights at Big Lots and hung them on the outside of my tent.  Late in the evening when it got dark enough they illuminated. My friend lent me a camp table and I set it outside my tent with a flameless battery operated candle.
I hung a plastic chandelier in my tent.  The group was nice enough. There were four of us who weren't official Outdoor Afro leaders. One lady was a single mom with her son. The other was a single lady about 39 or 40. One was a aged single school teacher and me with my two teenagers. All of the ladies were impressed to see my efforts at "glamping" Glamour camping and told me that I taught them somethings. The woman who was one of the "leaders" tent blew away because she hadn't staked it down. There were three men "leaders" and they brought all the food and had some extra tents. They help us gals put the tents up. One of the male leaders brought his family which included a teen aged son who goes to a local high school and plays football so my son was extra happy to find a like-minded pal. The girls were all like-minded that they "hated" the trip and would rather be elsewhere. I think the pit toilet had something to do with it. Although there was a flush toilet a short walk away and a shower / bathroom within driving distance. On Saturday Morning after breakfast the men got in the car and drove down to the lake where some professional fisherman gave fishing lessons. The women could have gone too but it seemed like a male  trip. The younger boy that came with his mom knew how to fish but my son and the other high school students were learning. Later on Saturday afternoon, there was a long group hike and Darryl conveniently drove up to meet us. My daughter quickly packed her stuff and threw it in the car with the intent she was not spending another night outside in a tent. When everyone returned from the hike, I cut the watermelon and served it for a post hike snack. I also had some carrots and another woman brought out a big bag of popcorn to share. Saturday night we had a special guest Mikeeda Turell , former black panther and Oakland native come to impart wisdom in the African American tradition through story telling. It was fun. Her message was "deep". I'm still processing it. anyway...The teenagers stayed up late talking around the campfire roasting marshmallows. I forgot about the jiffy pop popcorn I had in the trunk of my car but the kids seem to have a good enough time.

Prior to the trip I’d purchased another tent at Walmart. It was supposed to be a four person tent but it was just the right size for John to set up his cot and bring all his stuff inside.
At first he grumbled about having to use that tent but it was the perfect bachelor tent. Darrylann and I spent the first night in our family tent before she decided to go home with her dad. I look forward to planning another camping trip with my family or with Outdoor Afros.

Things I love...Easter Edition!

I will be hosting Easter brunch/dinner for my entire family this Sunday. I love to entertain but rarely get the opportunity. I have a very small house so much of the party will be held outside in the backyard. I went on pinterest to get some decorating ideas.

Things I love:

April 9, 2014

I'm busy dreaming up things to do and write and create!

Is this the wrong time to start an online business? I hope not. With the recent revelation that the Heartbleed Bug compromised privacy and passwords on countless websites, I can't help wondering if people will take a break from shopping online.  If folks do take a break, it will probably be short lived. Internet stores are here to stay. Whether it is the sale of physical goods that will be mailed; payment for services such as classes or consultations; or the selling of downloadable material such as books and manuals; the internet is likely generating billions of dollars of revenue for businesses.

I've been researching how to set up an online store or website. I'm really excited to learn some new skills and keep my mind active as I progress through my 50th year. Sigh! I feel old and unappreciated. Teenage kids aren't listening to me. Hubby ain't interested in what I've go to say either.  The folks at work...well you know how that goes. They only listen if its gossip or it involves some work that they don't want to do or help with. Okay, lemme stop!

Sometimes I feel a little blue. But I'm okay.
I went out to a nice dinner with some 30 co-workers last night at Pican Restaurant in Oakland. It turned out to be a very nice networking event in a private room in the back of the restaurant. The best part it was free because it was sponsored by one of our clients. Woo hoo! Although Tracey and I each purchased a $9 rum punch during the Happy Hour. The portions were very generous and we all had a doggy box to take home. Learned some new skills like how to create a free QR code and how to set up a text marketing campaign.I picked one perfect yellow rose in my garden and set it on my table so that I can see it when I work. Love roses.I exercised today. The yoga class was starting after the mix it class I took but hubby and daughter wanted to get home to watch their televisions shows. I will have to drive or better yet take a day off tomorrow to go to the morning yoga. Hmm...I checked out 7 business/ success books from the library this week. I got back the scores from one of the writing contest I entered. One of the judges gave me a darn near perfect score. The other two were the equivalent of A- grades. I got marked down because I needed to add commas just about everywhere. I guess it would have helped if I sent the pages to my critique group before I sent it off to the contest. So basically I didn't win but the judges comments were encouraging.  Gotta keep it moving.

I discovered a new artist who was showcased at Pican Restaurant. The room was decorated with some beautiful embellished paintings by artist Kamala Peart. I love her paintings of ladies wearing beaded hats. There were no prices but I should have asked. Anyway, when I get my business off the ground then I'll be back to buy artwork. Check out the website for images of her work.

~*~*~Since I've been reading a bunch of networking and marketing books, I've decided to develop an e-course and possibly a handbook about networking. I'm thinking of a cutesy name for the book but haven't got all the detail together.
Cute homemade book I found on pinterest.com

I'm planning on interviewing some of my author friends from RWA Black Diamonds Chapter and I know one editor who worked for Liquid Silver and now consults with Harlequins Carina Press. The editor has said yes. Yippee.

I hope to interview my marketing and entrepreneurial idol and tranquil queen of multimedia promotion Kimberly Wilson. If you get a chance, check out her webpages. She offers e-course, writes book, sells clothing, perfume, makes podcasts, teaches yoga and blogs regularly. I'm probably forgetting something. Oh,yeah, she just introduced a new perfume last year.

Anyway, back to my web store, I think I've found an option. Details and the big reveal to come soon.

I plan to offer and e-courses, workbook/ebooks to accompany them and maybe a couple of youtube videos. Of course there will also be the Ship and Shore Lifestyle section which includes all kinds of tips about cruising as well as the Mrs P.A. Moore elegant ship and shore swimsuit cover ups.

As I mentioned in an older post on my 2014 goals,  one of my aspirations for the year was to start and plus size swim cover up business or at least get a business plan together. I've jumped right to getting the website together.  I'm looking for design .

I haven't forgotten about my romance writing which is my other passion. I would like to work on promoting myself a little more and as I mentioned above I got some great feedback from one of the contests I entered last month. Still waiting to hear from the other contest.

~*~*~ I'm excited that my college aged daughter is coming home from college for a few days during her spring break. She is graduating in May 2014. Yeah! She hasn't been as agressive as I would like about looking for jobs but a 49 year old woman can tell a 22 year old woman NOTHING. Same goes for 16 year old young woman. Neither of my daughters want ANY advice about anything I have to say. SIGH! The don't want to hear anything about men, money, make-up. NOTHING.

Okay I need to stop again.  Deep breathe! They're good girls.

~*~*~So, I've got a lot of things in the pipeline and trying to focus on getting a small business started, finishing at least one full manuscript or two novellas and taking my entire family on a cruise after Christmas this year.

Happy Easter!

Still need to research airfare. Sigh!

Writing Achievements

For the fourth or fifth year in a row I've been a Preliminary judge for a RWA Chapter sponsored writing contest. Just finished reading and judging 5 Historical entries. For the fourth or fifth year, I've been a preliminary reader for an electronic romance publisher. So far this year, I've read one novel for publisher. I've had to turn down other requests. Rejoined an online critique group for feedback on my own writing and to offer feedback to others. Enrolled in and in the process of completing a RWA Kiss of Death Romatic Suspense Chapter sponsored writing course taught by Best Selling Author Allison Brennan entitled Chills and Thrills Attended one online chat about plotting assistance sponsored by Savvy Authors .com  on Beat Sheets taught by Jami Gold. See resources at JamiGold.com/worksheets.Completed writing 20,000 words on manuscript on progress entitled Treasure Chest.Submitted one chapter to critique group for feedbackEntered two RWA writing contests in the Romantic Suspense genre. One Utah RWA 's Great Beginnings contest, the other is Wisconsin's RWA - Fab 5 Contest.Professional Skill Building
Been attending UC Berkeley School of Public Health's  CALPACT Professional Development Series so far I've completed Project Management with Jeff Oxendine, Large Data Sets:Innovative uses and Why it Matters with Speaker Deryk Van Brunt CEO: Healthy Communities Institute I've registered for the Leadership Module which includes courses on Leading from Where you Are, Leading Change Management, Keys to Positive Supervision, Innovations in Problem Solving. Participated in a New Media Webinar on Social Media Measurement & Evaluation entitled : Are we there yet? New Media Best Practices for Creating & Measuring ImpactCreativityAttended Scrapbook Expo at Alameda County Fairgrounds on 3/15/2014 Participated in one class entitled Simple and Speedy Scrapbooks sponsored by A-Z Scrapbooks. A-Z scrapbooks is a store in Southern Calfornia. The class was terrible and I do not recommend it. There used to be a place on Scrapbook Expo's website to write reviews of classes but that is gone now.  Scrapbook Expo Crop in the Alameda County Hall of CommerceThe course was $28 prepaid and was supposed to include a page kit worth $20. There was no page kit just some random paper handed out for his in class project that was a thrown together hodge podge of 6 or 7 print papers on top of each other in random fashion. It was not my style which may be why I didn't like the class. It was not well organized or facilitated. The page we were to make was not simple or speedy as we spent 30 minutes cutting paper to various sizes. Basically the instructor handed out a stack of paper with no instructions or picture of the finished product. The first half of the class we spent cutting the paper to the instructed dimensions then putting it together. The second half of the class we were to glue it together. The instructor gave wrong instructions about cutting which was okay because the page could be assembled any old way. I left about half way through because it wasn't really worth my time.
I did attend the Scrapbook Expo Crop at the fairground. I set up a little bit after 1:00 p.m. and went to work on a page kit that I purchased at the Expo. There were lots of vendors in the Expo hall. I purchased at the Expo. I bought about $55 worth of stuff and met a few nice ladies. At 5:00 p.m they started playing games and having door prizes and raffles which was fun. I didn't win any door prizes this year but it was fun. At about 10:00 p.m. I packed up and made the one hour drive home.  My workstation at the crop. Sat at a table with two ladies from San Ramon.I spent the ten hours at the crop working on pages about my New Years' Eve cruise to the Southern Caribbean.  One of the pages that I worked on during the Crop.
I also attended a 3 day Scrapbook Retreat in Stockton sponsored by Queen of the Crop Scrapbook Retreats. I met some nice "like minded" ladies who are into scrapbooking. The Stockton retreat had a Mardi Gras theme and also offered lots of prizes. Here are a few pictures of that retreat. Liz Almeida does an excellent job putting together those events. I thought she was going to be at the Scrapbook Expo but I didn't see her or any of the other ladies there.

Queen of the Crop Retreat's Mardi Gras Theme Decor

Coffee and Other Beverages were offered as part of retreat
Snack Table for Participants
Here is a page kit I am working on at the retreat. Purchased that new Caribbean Blue Album.
My work area at the retreat.
Earlier this year I participated in Kimberly Wilson's 24 Days o Tranquility e-course and purchased her book Tranquilogie. I did complete one of her activities to make treasure maps of my goals for the year. Here are some photos. I still look over the monthly activities in her book Tranquilogie but I am not doing the activities on a daily basis. The activity on the Facebook page she created for the class has died down. I did get ideas from her website Tranquility du Jour to update my week. Looking back at the collages of my wishes for 2014 I see that travel was one of them. So booking the trip at the end of the year is in my goals.

 Goals for the Next Quarter:
Pay down the balance for the New Years Eve Cruise
Find reasonable price for airfare.
Work on planting front yard water saving plants.
