Sublime from Philosophical Perspective

Wisdom is a more complex and qualitative trait that encompasses not only knowledge and experience but also the ability to apply them with insight, judgment, and ethical consideration.

The idea of the "sublime" in philosophy, particularly from a literary and aesthetic perspective, refers to a grandeur of thought, emotion, and spirit that evokes a sense of awe or ecstasy. This idea is explored in the treatise 

On the Sublime, attributed to Pseudo-Longinus, which defines sublimity as "excellence in language," the "expression of a great spirit," and the power to provoke "ecstasy" . The sublime departs from traditional classical criticism by emphasizing the moral, emotional, and imaginative depth of the thinkers, rather than merely technical elements.

Philosophers define wisdom as a multifaceted concept that involves more than just knowledge or intelligence. Aristotle, for instance, distinguishes between theoretical and practical wisdom. Theoretical wisdom involves understanding fundamental truths about the world, while practical wisdom (or "phronesis") involves the ability to make good judgments and decisions in everyday life. Practical wisdom is not just about choosing the best means to achieve one's ends but also about having the right ends, which implies that these ends can be reasoned about and known, rather than being purely subjective desires.

Philosophy itself is often seen as a search for wisdom, reflecting on human experience and considering topics of great concern to humanity, such as moral responsibilities, the nature of the universe, and the values of truth, goodness, and beauty.  "Innovative Oddballs" are essential for successful business transformation because they bring diverse perspectives, challenge assumptions, and drive innovation.

Forward-looking organizations across the industrial sectors all intend to run a people-centric business. But people are different, cultures are different, and global societies are different. We need lots of bridges to mind the gaps and many innovative oddballs who can share their diverse perspectives and unconventional thinking in driving innovation constantly. 

Who are the innovative Oddballs in leading business transformation? We all live on the global stage nowadays, and people have different perspectives, preferences, and personalities. In this context, "oddballs" aren't necessarily negative. They represent individuals who:

Psychological Brightness

 "Psychological brightness" implies effectively captures the essence of mental and emotional well-being, characterized by clarity, optimism, and resilience.

People are both physical and psychological beings with their own set of perspectives, performance, and potential. Psychological brightness can be understood as a metaphorical concept referring to the mental and emotional states associated with clarity, optimism, and cognitive well-being. 

It encompasses various aspects of positive psychology and cognitive functioning. 

Clarity of Thought: Improve cognitive clarity -the ability to think clearly, focus effectively, and make sound decisions without mental fog or confusion. Increase emotional clarity by understanding one's emotions and being able to articulate them accurately.

Optimism and Hope: Maintaining a positive perspective on life, even in the face of challenges, and believing in the possibility of positive outcomes. Having a sense of hope for the future and believing that goals can be achieved.

Emotional Well-Being: Increase resilience, with the ability to bounce back from adversity and adapt to stressful situations. Effectively manage and modulate emotions to maintain a balanced state.

Innovative Conference -Startup Grinding 2025

 The knowledge gained and insight shared are expected to drive innovation, funding, and sustainable practices in the years ahead.

On a sunny spring day in Northern California, thousands of entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, thinkers, technologists, and professionals across the industrial sectors went to the two-day conference- the Startup Grinding 2025. 
It was an annual event that brought together entrepreneurs, investors, and industry leaders to discuss the latest trends, challenges, and opportunities in the startup ecosystem. 

Thanks to the organizer who welcomed me to the meeting and made my registration process go very smoothly. So I was able to focus on the meeting and knowledge exchange. 

The atmosphere of the conference was very active, entrepreneurs shared their journeys, highlighting lessons learned from successes and failures, and providing insights into the evolving landscape. The music in the expo hall was loud enough to boost the passion for growth, and recharge people's energy to learn and share knowledge & experience. 

I listened to a few panel discussions about funding strategies, startup challenges, AI applications, and the importance of innovation in a competitive environment etc. There were also dozens of startups pitching their ideas to the audience, receiving feedback. Most of their ideas focused on solving certain problems in the digital era, such as automation, optimization, reliability, etc. I also participated in a few seminars that focused on essential skills for startups, including fundraising techniques and building high-performance teams.

Impact of RSA Conference 2025

All those activities and events made the RSA conference 2025 impressive, even a bit overwhelming, with so much information, so many booths, and so many different perspectives.

San Francisco is always a busy global hub for travelers and business professionals. In the spring season, there are so many great events happening here. Again, I participated in one of the largest IT events in the world -the RSA Conference, which brought together tens of thousands of industry professionals, researchers, policymakers, and vendors to discuss the latest trends, challenges, and innovations in security and IT industry. 

I went to the conference center in the early morning, and there were already so many people inside. The staff were very friendly, making my registration process go very smoothly, so I could focus on learning and sharing fresh knowledge about the industry. Both North Hall and South Hall of the conference center were very busy with so many presentations, training sessions, exhibitions, and vendor meetings. People all over the world came here to exchange knowledge and present products/services for enhancing business security and advancing human society. 

Keynote Presentations: The industry leaders share their insight into the current IT landscape and future trends, providing insights about security, GRC concerns.   

Session Tracks: Sessions led by industry experts, researchers, and practitioners shared their knowledge and experiences. Multiple session tracks covered a wide range of cybersecurity topics, including threat intelligence, incident response, cloud security, data privacy, and risk management.

Expo: The Expo floor was very active, with hundreds of vendors showcasing their cybersecurity products and services, providing attendees with hands-on demonstrations and opportunities to learn about the latest technologies. A dedicated area for startups to exhibit their products and services and connect with investors and potential customers. A large expo floor also facilitates networking among attendees, vendors, and potential partners.

Workshops and Training: In-depth workshops and training sessions offered practical skills and knowledge in various cybersecurity domains.

Wrap Up Show: In the mid-afternoon on May 1st, I thought I still had the chance to listen to the keynote presentation in the conference theater. When I went there, the wrap-up show and concert had just started, and it was party time. After days of knowledge sharing, the facilitator thoughtfully arranged this entertainment event to wrap up the show. The comedians were fun and the musicians were active, audiences were also very engaging.

The staff were friendly to help audiences coming from all over the place with logistical issues, ensuring people had a great experience for learning and sharing knowledge during the event.
